More points for a capped vision tetra.
Would more teams have tried harder to cap the vision tetra if the point reward had been greater?
I was surprised to note after attending the Finger Lakes and New Jersey regionals, that a lot of teams did not try to pick up from the ground. This left the vision tetras lying around on the field during quite a few match's. Perhaps if they were worth 5 points during driver control and perhaps 25 for capping in auto mode, more teams would of payed attention to them. Just my $0.02 |
Re: More points for a capped vision tetra.
I think the score had a little bit to do with it...
But personally, I think a lot of the teams didn't bother with it because they didn't have the time and or the resources to figure out how the camera worked and get it taken care of. |
Re: More points for a capped vision tetra.
I think the value was already pretty great. I don't think making them more valuable (unless you went really extreme) would have caused teams to throw more resources at it than they did. There is only so much you can do short of building several robots and having multiple programmers working in parallel on it. Increasing the point value would have only caused the differences between the haves and have-not teams to widen.

Re: More points for a capped vision tetra.
It was definitely a mixture of the lack of knowledge/time to learn how the cam works, and the points would have been better, but they can just pick up the ones from the auto loader and have one starting on the robot, so there was very little purpose and ability.
I don't think they should have really be more yet, perhaps next year if they do something with vision they should have it worth more so teams really get to it, now that they have the technology |
Re: More points for a capped vision tetra.
Er, you guys are missing the point of the question. John is asking whether teams should get more points for capping vision tetras during DRIVER control.
I agree with you. It's harder to pick tetras off the ground for our team (compared to a quick autoloader stop). In addition, it's harder to seat vision tetras. Perhaps the four vision tetras could be like the four 10pt balls from last year - ie worth more than normal capped tetras. 5pts sounds reasonable. |
Re: More points for a capped vision tetra.
I wouldn't have minded if they were worth more. We didn't have very much trouble with them at all. Just a little placement trouble every now and then, but that didn't take too long to fix. But then again, I didn't see too many teams going for any tetras on the ground.
