poll:what music do you listen to?

At the Canadian Regional the DJs played mostly rap and techno. The DJs said that it was because the majority likes rap and techno. So I want to see if I can prove them wrong.

HotWheels2002 11-04-2002 22:04

I like Classic Rock (Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Beatles, Doors, Hendrix, Cream, Skynyrd, etc.)

SlaveOfChernobl 11-04-2002 22:43

I like Classic Rock (Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Beatles, Doors, Hendrix, Cream, Skynyrd, etc.)

they all rock. and before this freak i know posts this, U2 should be added to that list of super good awsome bands that should be played by the dj's more often.
also "the clash" is one of my favorits. AC/DC is hot too.

mike pawlak 11-04-2002 23:00

cant go wrong with acda, aerosmith, offspring, pink floid, ar hoobastank:)

Brandon Martus 11-04-2002 23:21

definetly a candidate for a multiple choice poll...

i kept clicking Punk...Emo...Punk...Emo...Punk...
then just left it on Punk.

Wetzel 12-04-2002 04:29

I chose rap, even thought they played hip-hop, which is diffrent then rap. It be cool if they played some real gangsta rap. Then me and my homeboy Griffen would lay the smack down. ;)
Anywho, I listen to it all except emo.
Whiny music emo is...

SpackleDawg 12-04-2002 10:15

music's cool! Alternative rocks!!!!

Justin 188 12-04-2002 10:29

Is there any way to make the poll so that people can vote on more than one genre?

Maikettei 12-04-2002 12:33

I'm the one who chose techno... though from what I heard at our regional, they dont play a lot of the songs I like... I like all music though. I wish this poll included a "ALL MUSIC" choice.

Brandon Martus 12-04-2002 12:38

i think they play alot of the techno because alot of it doesnt have any words, so they don't have to worry about inappropriate lyrics. and it is up-beat, to hopefully boost up the energy in the crowd...

Little Lee132 12-04-2002 15:23

Yea, AC/DC and all them rock. I'm pretty sure that they played a lot of techno because most of the people liked it. When me and my friends had requested a Punk song, they said we had to at least gaet 10 other people to request it. But when a guy and 2 girls went up to them and asked if they would play a rap song they immediatley played it after the song that was playing before was through. Just goes to show that a bias is not only used against different races now it has been introduced to music.

Whiny music emo is...

its not whiny, its EMOTIONAL, hence the name.

im just as cultured as the next person, but i have to admit, SKA IS THE BEST!!!! especially less than jake, reel big fish, aquabats, catch 22, the hippos, the gadjits, ect... the list goes on for days...

oh yes, k, i didn't see hardcore or nu metal on that poll list, im very disappionted in you, lol...

DanL 12-04-2002 16:57

You forgot Dropkick Murphys. Punk, ska, ireland, and boston just all go together somehow. =D

I feel you're pain Brandon i just ended up leaving it on Emo. And Ska's right, its not all whiny(although it can be at times) note the Hot Water Music avatar at side quite emotional, no whine.

SlaveOfChernobl 12-04-2002 22:53

all of you who voted for rock/punk/ska.....good job. but i have to tell you people, there is this rapper out there who made me think about voting for rap just a few fractions of a second. check out this rapper . you are all gonna love the computer simulated stylings of good old steven hawking!!!!!!!

Melissa Nute 12-04-2002 23:01

Anything except country and teeniebooper pop

CheckeredSkaKid 12-04-2002 23:04

eh...yeah...im still not a big fan of rap, i try to be open minded about music, but i always get lead back to ska..i think its the horn section, can't beat that...yeah, d.m. are great, as i said before, the list goes on, its sad really that some ska bands are too scared of ska dieing out so they stop making it...
yeah..i saw hot water music in concert w/ bad relgion and less than jake. all three were excellent, i highly reccomend going to any of thier shows.... later guys

Yes! You rock, Yearbook50! I've only known one other person to use the phrase, 'teeniebooper pop.' People are entitled to listen to whatever they want. Personally, I celebrate all forms of music except for:
1. Teeniebooper pop --- Most of it is pathetically skin-deep (ala Kylie Minogue) or produced for you, rather than written by the artist;
2. Hardcore rap --- You think you're tough just because you curse every other word? Gimmie a break - do something better with your life; and
3. Country --- eh, no real problem with it, just doesn't apeal to me.

Everything else - name it and I celebrate it. Although I do tend to favor rock a bit more than anything else. Specifically either 'oldskewl' rock or punk. Classic rock just has that musical diversity behind it, and punk has the energy behind it.

Rob Ribaudo 13-04-2002 22:27

I like to listen to music from various animes (Japanese cartoons). Even if I can't fully understand the words yet, I still like to listen to how the music sounds. Soon, once I see the sub-titles enough, I will know the words to many of the songs. The best music is from the animes Evangelion and Love Hina. Since no one probally knows wat I am talking about, I think that I will just end now.

Matt Attallah 14-04-2002 00:30

TECHNO ALL THE WAY!! W00T!!! That stuff can get me up any time. Just give me some good tunes, and i am good to go!

The Techno Remix of Rhythm Emotion from Gundam Wing is great
Cruel Angel's Thesis from Eva is good too.
And there is some Tenchi stuff that is good for 'mood music' on a date.;)

I mostly listen to hard loud angryish rock... which I'm not sure what category it really fits in to - but I put rock. I'm all for NIN, Jack off Jill, Smashing Pumpkins, Marylin Manson... etc. (though I do love me some ska, and I'm glad others here are aquabats fans)

CheckeredSkaKid 14-04-2002 19:08

aww aquabats rule! they're like so great- thier horn section is the tightest that ive ever heard. for a while there i thought nobody knew what i was talking about! later

Bondage 14-04-2002 20:59

Yeah, I actualy bought the CD on a fluke (The Fury of..) and now it's one of my favorite CD's... They are good songs to sing along to too.. And just.. silly in a good way.

Do you have 'Myths, Legends, and other Amazing Stories' ? Its good. You should get it. :)

Bondage 14-04-2002 22:01

no I don't - but I'll be sure to pick it up :)
I'm also a HUGE mighty might bosstones fan.

Carolyn Duncan 14-04-2002 23:03

Any of y'all like They Might Be Giants? What about the Virginia natives of Jimmy's Chicken Shack? If not you should all go check them out! Why are you still sitting there go out and find their music!

MissInformation 14-04-2002 23:18

They Might Be Giants are one of my all time favorites! The second easiest way to get me out of a bad mood is to put on one of their CDs. One of the members of the band has another band called Mono Puff, which is not as good as TMBG, but not too bad. Jimmy's Chicken Shack you say?

I adore Jimmy's Chicken Shack :) I didn't know anyone who wasn't from the DC area knew about them... And They Might Be Giants are great- they remind me of the Aquabats.. or the other way around.

I guess so.....WAHOOO I'M GOING TO SEE NSYNC TOMORROW!!! hehehehe.....i'm serious....i'm a cheesy pop/britney spears/nsync/o-town, etc fan....lol

DanL 15-04-2002 17:11

Hey guys, lets do something cool with this thread....

Instead of just listing all the music that you guys like, how about everyone posts a playlist of the top 10, 15 songs that everyone should download.

I'll go first, just to start everything off:

Dan's Punk/Rock/Ska Uber-Fun Downloads!
===============================
1. The Ataris - 1-15-96 (Still one of the best songs - emo-ish, but musically it's...wow)
2. Bouncing Souls - '87
3. Bouncing Souls - The Freaks, Nerds, and Romantics
4. Bouncing Souls - The Whole Thing (A suprise but awesome twist on punk...)
5. Face to Face - Sunnyside of the Street - (Amazing cover)
6. Face to Face - Disconnected (Another one of my favorite punk songs0
7. AFI - Days of the Phoenix (Right up there with 1-15-96 and Disconnected)
8. Reel Big Fish - Sell Out (Listen to the lyrics - they know they did it, and thats why they wrote the song making fun of it.)
9. Halfcocked - Bar Reputation (Shrek Soundtrack, blah blah blah - good song nonetheless)
10. Strung Out - Match Book
11. Strung Out - King Alvarez (Quality punk here in these two songs, tons of energy without it being nothing but chords played as loudly as possible)
12. And lastly, one day while on Napster (way back when), I saw this file called Pink panther (Ska Version). Naturally, I had to download it. Turns out it's an AWESOME cover of the well-known theme. I have no idea who wrote it - I've seen it by Blink 182, MxPx, Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies, and who knows how many other bands - but it's an awesome cover. If you have Morpheus or Kazaa, go download it. To the best of my knowledge, it's just an annonymous punk band, so no copyright infringement here as far as I know.

There are tons more, but this is just to get you guys started. Maybe later I'll make a list of my favorite classic rock or pre-90's pop or DMB favorites. How about you guys? What are your top 10, 15 songs?

Sean_330 15-04-2002 18:34

Who decides what music is played at the nat's?

Sean_330 15-04-2002 18:41

I like pretty much anythign besides pop and country or music where they cuss every other word. There is no reason for that.

MY TOP 13 MUSIC DOWNLAODS (and they dont use profanity)

1. Linkin Park "In The End"
2. POD "Alive"
3. POD "Rock THe Party"
4. Grits "They All Fall Down"
5. Supertones "Chase the Sun" (They actually played that at LA)
6. Linkin Park "Crawling"
7. Sonic Flood "I Could Sing of Your Love Forever"
8. Lifehouse "Hanging By A Moment"
9. Grits "It Takes Love"
10. Supertones "UNITE!"

If you've ever seen me online (AIM) then you can check out my away messages, Instead of actually informing people of what I'm doing, I usually just put up lyrics, and I have soo many saved it isn't even funny (laughs of course) and I usuallly have different lyrics up like every other hour :D yeah I'm a loser;) But thats what you get for being into Computers, Robotics, and Star Wars!!

MissInformation 15-04-2002 23:45

I don't know what's downloadable or not, having never done that, but these songs make the perfect CD for me:

1. Violent Femmes "Prove My Love"
2. Violent Femmes "Promise"
3. They Might Be Giants "Older"
4. They Might Be Giants "Drink"
5. Led Zeppelin "Battle of Evermore" (oh to hear this one for the first time all over again!)

15. Blue Oyster Cult "Subhuman"

Actually, the only one I'm missing to create this cd is The Dead Milkmen!

ONLY their old stuff is good sky. THey became more of a punk/metal/ska band as they matured.

Never Ment - American Football

thats about all for now, i probably forgot something but thats all right

Lora Knepper 21-04-2002 20:35

I listen to anything with real instruments/singing for the most part. This excludes most pop, and all rap. That said, I'm a country fan 110% and recently that's most of what I listen to. Oh come on, I live two hours east of Nashville, what do you want? :p

But that aside, for competitions, techno and some classic rock is the way to go.... and it's not a FIRST competition unless they play Cotton Eye Joe at LEAST once ;)

Doug 21-04-2002 20:58

Techno all the way!
Dr Bombay-SOS the tigers got my family
Dr Bombay- Hindi Dancing
Darude- Sandstorm
most every song on DDR!
remixes from gladiator, titanic, megaman

what would I do without the perfect music that is techno

Maikettei 21-04-2002 21:12

Hmmm... you didn't include R&B in your poll either :(

Scottie2Hottie 23-04-2002 08:34
