Rookie All-Stars going to Nationals

What rookie teams that have won Rookie All Star are going to nationals? Team 1676 is excited to be able to go to nationals in our rookie year. :D We feel we accomplished so much by winning this award. Every rookie team that received this award should feel proud.

Can't wait to see you all there!

Team 1646 Boiler Precision Guessworks, our mentor team, won the Rookie All Star at Boilermaker and will most likely be flying down with us to nationals. We are all pretty excited because they have a really neat group of kids and advisors who truly earned their spot. Way to go guys!

1511 won at the FLRC, and we are headed for Atlanta!! :) Flights and hotel are booked!! (USAir*Shameless plug here, USAir was great, for us booking so last minute, they rearranged their seating to get 42 of us on 2 planes! & Days Inn Downtown for Hotel)

How amazing to win this award, and earn a spot in the national competition at our first event!!

As all FIRST teams know, most of us sit on the edge of our seats as they describe the teams for the different awards... the second we knew it was us, we all started screaming! :D Such an amazing feeling! I think I might still be in shock weeks later!

We will also be competing in Buckeye this weekend and the Toronto regional next weekend... However, our team has decided that we are going to ask the judges not to consider us for the Rookie All Star award at these events, so that other rookies have a chance to win their way to Atlanta :) The more rookies in Atlanta, the better!!

See you all there!

My little brother is on team 1506, Metal Muscle. They won the Rookie All-Star at Detroit, and are going to Nationals. It was kinda cool, because I was a referee there, so when they came down to get their award, I was part of the receiving line :)

That's amazing! You guys are awesome for doing that, letting other rookie teams get the award. I have a question though, you guys are going to three regionals and you are a rookie team!!!!!!!!!!!! Where did you guys get the funds for this! We are practically begging everyone for money for us to get to nationals.

Yeah!!! Rookie Allstars!!! Woohoo!!! Go team 1546!!! Was it as incredible receiving the award for you guys as it was for us?!!! I'm still in shock and that was a week ago!!! I bent my glasses... I was jumping up and down "We're going to Atlanta!! We're going to Atlanta!!"... and I collided head on with our mascot... a bear... also jumping...

But who cares!!! We're going to Atlanta anyway!!! See yous guys there!!! I personally invite you to celebrate with us in our pit!!! Who cares if we stink at nationals... it's still a semi-free vacation when you think about it!!! Okay... gotta calm down...

Way to go 1511! You guys were awesome this weekend. And thanks to your GP, team 1590 now has a trip to nationals.

Thanks :) Well, its a HUGE lesson in budgeting. We dont spend a lot on superfluous stuff, and we try to get as much as possible donated. We have also raised over $5k in funds just from our patron drive (our version of begging for money). I will admit, our town is not poor, so our students put in $75 deposits for each away trip, but we have half the budget of a lot of the larger teams from what I know. Rochester saved us a lot of money, because we didnt have to pay for travel. I also spent A LOT of time on trying to find good rates for travel... we shopped around for busses and hotels to find the cheapest possible. USAir gave us a great deal on flights to Nationals... And Harris has been very generous in rewarding our success.

Thanks!! But, we will never know if it is thanks to our GP. We did submit our petition, but it is all up to the judges anyway. 1590 did a great job this year, and for such a tiny team, they deserve a TON of credit, and they deserved the award :) What an amazing little team! I hope they make it to Nationals with us!! (1532 was great too, they won Rookie Inspiration!)

The Iron Devils (team 1647) took the Rookie All Star Award in the Philly Regional this past weekend. We are Atlanta Bound. :D

Team #1648 (Henry Grady High in Atlanta & Turner Broadcasting) won the Rookie All Star Award at the Peachtree Regional and they will be at Championships!

They have a very simple design that is extremely consistent including an almost perfect autonomous mode. They are also a great bunch of students and mentors.

Looks like rookie teams 1646, 1647 & 1648 will be attending Championships. Must have been a good place to be in the numbering scheme! :)

1507 won the Rookie All-Star in the Chesapeake Regional, and we are trying our hardest to get to go to Atlanta! If anything, we're listed on the FIRST website as going.

We need to raise some funds to get there, but as far as I'm concerned, we're going! We have the dedication to get ourselves there!

1641, "Where's Waldo" from Mojave High School in California, got Rookie All-Star from the Las Vegas Regional. So, there might be something to that numbering scheme!!

Our robot is super-simple, and we'll be beefing up the mass and power for Atlanta.

I won't be able to attend (I was the field coach in LV), due to my daughter scheduled to be born on April 15th, but the team will be amazing!!!

See you there!

(P.S. Apparently, there's another "Where's Waldo" from Canada who ALSO won Rookie All-Star and will be going to Atlanta! How confusing will that be? Maybe they could be "Where's Wenda", since they're an all-girl team???)

1675 (Rufus King HS/Bradley Tech HS from Milwaukee) won the Rookie All-Star at Midwest and we will be there! It's kind of old habit for me these days (though, its been awhile since I've been on a team at the Championships), but the kids are totally stoked about the trip (not that I'm not)! They've worked very hard this year and I'm glad they have been given a chance to experience FIRST for a little while longer (most of the students are seniors are will be moving on).

Congratulations and good luck to all you fellow rookies in Atlanta and beyond. I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can!

Kev

Congratulations team 1641! It was great to be able to play with you guys as much as we did, you were great allies and competitors. Good luck in Atlanta!
