Midwest Regional Webcast.

Thats right folks, you heard it right, Midwest regional is being webcast thanks to the hardwork of team 111.

You can find the webcast on:
http://live.wildstang.org
http://robotics.nasa.gov/events/webcasts.htm
http://www.midwestfirst.org/live.php

One of those 3 websites should have the link soon to the webcast...
In the meantime, the SCORING TABLE CAM has popped up at Midwest regional also!
So you can enjoy our pretty faces, see some more celebs, and probably even get to see some robot action in non streaming format!

Looks like we have internet access *fingers crossed* for the time being, so hopefully we can get a match list and the likes up as well, so you guys can tell whats going on during the webcast.

-edit- Practice Match List is up.

SWEET.. snow day and a webcast..

I like the scoring table cam.. though my favorite extra cam was at the Finger Lakes Regional. They set up cameras in the drivers station to see how the drivers reacted during the match.

*EDIT* - they have a scoring table cam and cameras set up in the drivers station.. good stuff

Am I the only one who thinks the sound is really quiet? Yes, the volume on my computer and the volume in Realplayer are both at 100% but to hear anything, I have to have my speakers cranked to the max volume - which is fine until Windows makes a (random) (loud) noise!! :ahh:

Other than that, it looks great - and the music is awesome :)

Open realplayer, go to "tools", go to "equalizer" move the "input" slider to the top

Before I fly completely off the handle, did I just hear a team get penalized for breaking the plane of the driver's station? It was in the match that was just scored 0-0 mistakenly. That'd be in match #11.

Yes, a team was penalized for it. I thought they would be disabled also...atleast the Head Ref at GLR said your robot would be disabled if you broke the plane of the drivers station with a tetra or part of your robot.

Disabling I can understand. I don't really like it, but I can understand the reasoning. The 10-point penalty is completely made up and should never have been assessed. We might as well be playing Calvin-ball.

The HEAD REF at GLR said they would do it becuase of safety..apparently someone got hit with a tetra or there were some close calls. I'm pretty sure he said there was a penalty with it also..along with disabling.

And this is pretty cool, They're playing the Incredibles Theme at Midwest :D

There was no 10 point penalty accessed for breaking the plane in any match. Either an additional penalty was given for something else. Or the scoring system made it up - it has a mind of it's own!

That's what I'm hoping, but I clearly heard that a robot was assessed at 10-point penalty for "breaking the plane". Last year that was associated with breaking the plane of the driver's station, so.... Perhaps the announcer got it wrong and a robot was disabled for that and penalized for something else.

Confirmed by a referee - that was the case.

Re: Midwest Regional Webcast.

Interesting, the 1st match of today was penalty free. I thought you got a penalty for descoring a tetra from the opposing alliance and they also owned the goal for the rest of the match. I didn't see the blue alliance get a penalty for knocking off the red tetras on that center goal.

Kevin Sevcik 26-03-2005 11:15

Re: Midwest Regional Webcast.

No penalties. All the scored tetras counting and the other team permanently owning the goal is penalty enough.

Here are the final alliances.

1. 71, 111, 537
2. 269, 45, 706
3. 383, 903, 65
4. 648, 79, 107
5. 9, 74, 1525
6. 1646, 108, 525
7. 970, 81, 754
8. 877, 1675, 1240

Way to go 1646!
Eric

Swampdude 26-03-2005 13:53

Re: Midwest Regional Webcast.

Can't wait to see alliance 1 v 2

I think I'd send 706 after 71 and 111, then send 45 to cap opponent rows and center field goal. Let 269 work the home and mid sides.

1 is going to be tough to beat, but I think if 269 and 45 are productive towards the end of the match they can win it. But they need to shut down 71. 45 needs to keep 111 away from the center after they cap it late and last.

I predict 71 will cap deep on alliance 2 and break up their home row.

71 and 111 cap at the same rate as 269 and 45. But 537 caps faster than 706 so I can't see them flat out-capping them.

But if I were 1 alliance I'd send 71 deep and leave 11 and 537 on the home 6.

As far as I could see from the Webcast, the red side of the field went dead when 45's alliance was up to play. IFI then changed out the arena control boards on the red side and got it all set to work again. This took forever.

Re: Midwest Regional Webcast.

Oh lord. And here I thought the tetras stacked inside each other was just a hypothetical situation. Apparently it could very well decide this match.

EDIT:
Who owns this goal?

That was the kind of situation for those not watching. They apparently both counted and the higher tetra owned the goal.

Okay, that was some inspired defense by 79 in the last match against 71. Also a brilliant play by one blue team to snag the tetras held by 71 at the last second.

Swampdude 26-03-2005 17:09

Re: Midwest Regional Webcast.

This goes to show a 1 trick pony won't cut it. You need to be unpredictable and mix it up. These are great strategies we're seeing here. The elite teams are taking it for granted they'll just outcap.

Kevin Sevcik 26-03-2005 17:11

Re: Midwest Regional Webcast.

ARGH! That was quite definitely a match that shouldn't have been decided by penalties. I didn't see anything remotely over-aggressive there. I refuse to watch any more of this in protest.

Re: Midwest Regional Webcast.

Wow! Great job 79, 648 and 107. That must have been a tough ref call. It basically decided the match and possibly the winner of the regional. I've seen more aggressive play that has not been called at other regionals but I guess that's part of what makes the refs job so much tougher than some other years. Maybe I missed something that was not shown on the webcast. In any case, great job to all the teams in that last match.
