CIM-MOTOR source

I was just preparing a Purchase order via the IFIrobotics site for a summer project to make a running plateform using the kitbot chassis/tranmissions/CIM motors.

Alas, they are out of stock on the motors and won't be restocking. Anybody know of a source for these motors?

IFI is the only source for those and you are correct in saying they will not be stocking any more. Try trading with another team like through the CD swap system. :)

Can somebody refresh my memory as the current bot is waiting for us in Houston? Does this year's CIM motor have the same output shaft as either or both of the last two year's? If so then I can get by with gutting old machines. I've sent a request into the CIM folks via their website. I'll post here if I get any response.

I remember this years KEYWAY was slightly different in that it wasn't cut the entire length of the shaft, I think it stopped about 1/2" short of the end of the shaft. You could tell it was cut with an end mill, where as 2003 and 2004 CIMs keyway was cut with a keyway cutter. However, they both use the same size metric 2mm keystock. Other than that the rest of the shaft seems unchanged.

The keyway shouldn't be a problem. Our practice bot is using old CIMs with the kit transmission. just make sure you put the 3 nilon washers before you put the key in, and get the right set screws (dont stick out of the hub) and put some red locktide on them and you should be set.
