Philly Regional and had to you kept your FIRST team a TEAM

Hey, just wanting to say thank you to everyone that volunteer they time to make the Philly Regional a great one. Good job to regional winners , 365, 316, and 56, you were an amazing alliance. Everyone robot was amazing and you should be proud of it.

I have a question. How do you kept your FIRST team a team. I mean when we build our robot we work together but we are not a team. But when it comes to the competition, our team becomes a team and we work together and have fun. I wish our entire season could become more of a team effort and work TOGETHER and have fun. I would like to hear from all teams and if they could give some advice on this question.

Thanks again

Freddy,
Most teams do alot of traveling together and alot of community work together and I think that is a big part of having conformity as a team. I know on Team 341 we really see eachother as a family. If you ask me its spending all that time together during build season and away at regionals and off-season events that builds close relationships with everyone.
I'll be sure to send you one of our Team In A Box packages which has input from alot of people in FIRST, not just our team. (It may be a little bit though. You were one of our first requests and we didnt really expect things to happen so quickly)

Hi Freddy.

You have a terrific question. The first thing to realize is that teams are comprised of individuals and all indivdiuals are different - they have different needs, values, and aspirations. Creating a team out of a diverse group of individuals requires (1) and understanding of the individuals, and (2) the ability to fulfill their individual needs while at the same time achieving the goals of the team.

I can only speak about how we do this on MOE 365. I am sure other teams have different ways of doing this that are just as successful for their group of individuals.

Send me an e-mail and we can discuss this further if you would like.

I admire the fact that you recognize the need to continuously improve your team and are looking for ways to do it.

Keep it up!
