We finished inspection earlier than usual (2pm) and did well in practice matches, capping up to 6 at various times. Teams had 6 practices matches (3 sessions) so they were spread pretty far apart in time. Lucas had lots of time after our last match to finish autonomous - knock down right hanging tetra while holding a tetra, ready to cap the center home goal like the Martians. I haven't watched too many teams, but of those I have, 1596, 1305, and the NiagaraFIRST bots stick out. The arena looks oddly empty with only one field, but the atmosphere is still there and I am amazed to be back here. Whoooo. Looking forwards to competing in about 9 hours. |
Re: Greater Toronto Regional
Wow guys! Sounds like this regional is running great (especially without us :P). Keep the info coming! Although this isn't the SoCal thread, 188's shining over here. The robot's doing great and our team is more spirited than ever. Thing's are really looking good for us.
(Oh, and good job 1558, our team is very proud of you guys.) |

Re: Greater Toronto Regional
Good old Mississauga. From what I experienced Thursday, it still appears that Greater Toronto is going to end up as one of the friendliest, best run, most competitive regionals in all of FIRST again this season. I absolutely love coming here, and I can't wait for Friday and Saturday. Best of luck to all teams!
Today is April 1. Steve W and Karthik have vowed to repeat their mischief at our expense from last season. We shall tread lightly when returning to our pit this morning..... But know this.....Karthik......I can break you easily, you twig. And we have some very sharp scissors in our pit, Steve. They'd be perfect for cutting through that mass of Technicolor goop you have in your hair. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! Finally, I can connect to the wireless router from my laptop in the pit, but I can't get on the Internet - any ideas on how to fix that? I hear it works great for some teams, but not so well for others. |
Re: Greater Toronto Regional
WOW! Friday was awesome! Congrats 1114 (Simbotics) for being in first place after today. You're an awesome team and it's great to see a GM Canada Team in first! Congrats to all of the award winners today.
Theory6: That was crazy with all those people there! Waldo girls: Spirit is awesome, we love you! Everyone else: Can't wait for Saturday, I'm sure it will be great! |
Re: Greater Toronto Regional
Maybe it's due to the number of lesser experienced teams here, but there were more penalties at GTR than I've seen at any other regional, in person or webcast.
The day got better as it went on as everyone improved functionality. I believe the high score was 105-0. So 639 ended with a 4-2 record. First match was lost when partners got three 10pt penalties and second was lost when one of our drivers straddled the loading zone but apparenltly was touching (there's a little piece of cloth that hangs down?). Anyway, the refereeing was consistent and Steve's explanations after every match are useful for the audience and players. I've been impressed by 1114, 854, 1305, 84, 1596, and 703 in no particular order. We added the ability to hold a tetra during auton to our robot yesterday and tested auton with it last night. It worked wonderfully today and starting the driver period with an owned goal and a tetra in your claw ready to cap is very useful. gotta go. |

Re: Greater Toronto Regional
For us, I was surprised that we have such a strong robot. We played mostly defence and we pushed everyone around like pushing paper boxes.
Good Game Everyone and Good Luck Tomorrow! |
Re: Greater Toronto Regional
Can someone post the top 10 (so far)?

Re: Greater Toronto Regional
the competition here is really fierce!! its amazing! yeah we took some unecessary penalties, but hey thats what you get for not following the rules. but of course match 55 really stood out for us =D
great strategy that 48 came up with, and we took down the alliance with 772, 1305 and 296 down! of course we could not have won that one because of a penalty taken by 1305, but then again we lost our second match because of penalties. we played some solid defense and almost shutout 1305 =D. solid ramming helped so much. and we apologize for any lost foam you guys suffered because i remember seeing some come off =) i congratulate all the teams (especially the rookies and even more for 1596) for doing so well in the seeding rounds. BTW does anybody have a video of match 55? i would really like it |
Re: Greater Toronto Regional
