S.O.A.P. Service (Please Respond)

Greetings to all F.I.R.S.T. teams registered for Nationals,

For those of you who have been to a regional that Team 108 has attended, you remember (or I at least hope you do) that the sub-division S.O.A.P. offered CD's of the entire competition for any team who ask for it. This goal was accomplished but not without some confusion.

I'm asking now if this service would be appreciated for Nationals this year. It's going to be a hard task to accomplish but we are more than willing to do our best to provide CD's of every match at Nationals to all teams who sign up to recieve them. Give me your thoughts and suggestions and we'll go from there.

I think this service would be amazing and definitely merit a few boxes of Krispy Kremes. I'm always downloading videos off the SOAP site, and it would be great to have them all on a CD. :)

I think you have told me that a few times. :p

Personally (even though I am part of SigmaC@T), I love the soap site, just because of the fact it always provides me with something to do when I have nothing to do.

Thanks for all the work you guys put in for this.

Re: S.O.A.P. Service (Please Respond)

I thought it was very cool of you guys to do that. However the fact that you're hosting the same videos on your site made me feel like I wasted your time & CD's. I thought (as it was explained to me) you guys were actually creating DVD high quality movies. But since it's the same format as what's hosted I could just download those files. I'm sure there are other teams who don't have the bandwidth and would greatly appreciate the disks. But I think you should inform folks whether or not the videos will be hosted like you've been doing. Then some won't want you to make waste. Although it was neat to be able to watch the videos on a laptop on the ride home. :D

Re: S.O.A.P. Service (Please Respond)

This would be much easier for me than to download them all individually. I know 116 would like a copy. I assume that it would be ok for us to copy that again for the various team members that wanted one?

Re: S.O.A.P. Service (Please Respond)

I would probably go for a CD of the matches, if for no other reason than I seem to download them all anyway.

I'd be glad to swap blank CDs for the burned ones, at that.

I remember there being several announcements in the UCF Arena about there being CDs, and to go to the 108 pit to sign up for one...

Re: S.O.A.P. Service (Please Respond)

Currently, the S.O.A.P. team is somewhat unsure about sending everyone to the pit, being that the competition is so large, and we don't want people to get in the way of other pits as well as our own. However we'll do our best to let everyone know where we would have you sign up.

Ps. That was a valid point made earlier about the quality of the CD's. They are the same quality of the movies that are made available on our website. As of right now there are no plans of raising the quality level, at least not to DVD quality. Keep those responses comin!

yeah that's what i hear u'r doing all the time my friend....

thanks you guys!! (keeps fin entertained and out of trouble and the rest of us crazy ppl too)

you guys might as well just set up a table by the pit entrance...i'm sure if you worked, had a contact with FIRST they'll let you all set up a space or even when you all get there..pits are huge there has to be a spot and along the walking area from pits to arena...we found a small spot near our pit to work on things last year and as long as we cleaned up the volunteer staff was okay with it...

THANKS AGAIN!!

Re: S.O.A.P. Service (Please Respond)

I think this would be cool if it were in DVD format which the entire competition, like the time between matches and the scores. I think it is great that S.O.A.P puts all the video on line...but it would be nice if we got to see that match score as part of the video. Anyways so DVD format with chapters and menus would be pretty sweet I think. It always amazes me that FIRST pays 1000s of dollars for a production company to come in with professional camera crews, video mixing the whole nine yards, and for what really? A webcast? some archives at FIRST somewhere? Why not master each competition to DVD and sell them? Then put that money right back into FIRST?

Just a thought...

Justin

Selling anything at competition would require much back and forth between us and F.I.R.S.T. and it's highly unlikely that they will agree. If S.O.A.P. were to move towards a DVD project of that magnitued, including higher quality movies, it would be that much more difficult to provide the service we've already had for so long, which are the downloadable movies online. As I stated before, S.O.A.P. as of right now has no plans to increase quality of our movies by much. There isn't enough time to make that kind of a change. However it will be considered for the future.

I would love to get ahold of cd's of the competitions but I haven't been to any of your other competitions. I download the videos off your website but would there be a link somewhere possibly to download them all of each competition. I would like to have copies of all matches as you have on your website for my own copy but going and doing 2 at a time ( your server limits 2 downloads per user) takes forever. Would it be possible for you to send the Cd's or have a location on your website to download more files or continuously download down the list?

I would be incredibly grateful to you for such a CD, and as others have suggested would be willing to trade blank CD's for them. Also, I would love to help in any way that I can with burning/labeling and editing (I have a little experience in this area).

That would be awesome!! I'll be willing to bring a 100pk of CD-Rs as a small token of SOAPs generosity. Will SOAP need any volunteers this year?

I know we would like a CD of our matches - we probably won't have anyone at Championships to tape them for us.

S.O.A.P. isn't compatible with Mozilla currently. We're working on that but we lost a lot of the work we were doing. As of right now please use Internet Explorer to make use of S.O.A.P. with minimal errors.

It's true that right now we're running low on help, however we aren't ready to recruit from other teams yet. As soon as I get an estimate about how we'll we're doing on our own, I'll make a post about whether or not we're going to need any volunteers. Thanks a bunch for asking though, you guys are life savers!
