Re: Hobbies, normal and unusual

The most unusual hobby of mines is collecting uncommon names (or at least..names that are uncommon within the US). I started collecting them for my stories so I wouldn't have to name my characters Jane or Rob or something like that (not that those are bad names, it's just that they're quite common names, and I like to be different. :D). But seeing as I haven't written stories in a gazillion years and I never use names in my poetry anymore, I really don't know why I still collect them (I'm up to name #1,197). Perhaps I'm just subconsciously trying to find a name more interesting than Bzjxxllwcp (yes, it's really a name. It's Welsh and it's pronounced "Jackson").

I also collect quotes and books (my newest challenge for myself is trying to come into possession of at least one copy of every book written by Nick Bantock - which will be a bit difficult since most of his writings are now out of print. :( )

Re: Hobbies, normal and unusual

Hmmm

Cars
Working on them
learning about them
Racing them- I did a bit of Autocross last summer
etc.....

Radio Controlled Cars- I raced Touring cars Competily with very good succes, but the track shut down and the cost was simply getting too high. So now a days i keep my skills sharp, with my Team Losi Mini T. Making a tiny track in the living room requires as much skill if not more skill than racing the ole 1/10ths and 1/12ths around the ole carpet indoor, road course :)

Video Games- Currently working on GT4

Fishing has been a great way for me to relax during this First robotics season.

OH YEAH!!!! And watching Formula 1 racing!!!! GO Lucky Strike B.A.R Honda!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nothing too out of the ordinary for me:

Magic the Gathering: not so much a hobby as a lifestyle, I play Magic Online too (username is twopointoh), although the best I've done tournament wise is 12th (out of around 230) at States, and winning some small local tourneys

Warhammer 40k: Mostly just painting the models, something to do durring the summer, but I don't really know how to play that well

Reading: simple as the one word description

Writing: little bit of everything, whatever pops into my head

Ok, even though this is the first time I've ever read one of your posts, you are now officially awesome :D
I play 40k too, but haven't had much time lately (hm, I wonder why... ). Mostly Space Marines, but starting a small Imperial Guard force.

Anyways, in addition to WH40k, I also play MtG.
The only sports I'm any good at are bowling and target shooting (there's a reason I's the Redneck), but I also play tennis and basketball occasionally.

Oh, and I play far more video games than any person should be able to play without burning out their eyeballs. StarCraft, Diablo2, TimeSplitters 2, Quake III, Metroid Prime, WH40K: Dawn of War, and Jedi Knight 2 are some of the most common ones.

My little brother collects turtles, and every time the neighbor finds a snake, turtle or lizards my little bro is there in a flash.

I have only one tank (although it is rather large) with very simple critters. No snakes allowed and nothing too expensive (such is married life when the missus isn't a fan of lizards).

So many hobbies...
  • Community Service - Through SAACS and Golden Key, not to mention supporting the events of other campus organizations.
  • Residence Life @ NAU - Sort of a hobbie, sort of a job. It's still a passion.
  • Running/Softball/Racquetball - Flagstaff is at 7,000ft elevation. If you can run here you run anywhere. :D
  • Computer Gaming - When I have free time, Ha!
  • Seeing musicals - Phoenix is the worst big city to live in if you want to see touring Broadway shows. Ugh. I miss Chicago. :(
  • Photography/Digital Editing - More light!
  • Archery - Because I like my fingers to be sore for days and days.
  • Disneyland and WDW - My friend's obsession with Disney was contageous. Now I get up every morning and check about 6 Disney-park news sites. How did it ever come to this? I can't wait to go to DL in May. :yikes:
I like to find ways of combing these things together. Like running in races that support a charity or taking pictures of people at Reslife/club functions. Or going to Disneyland and going to Disneyland. Just one more month...

In addition to what I posted before, I also keep fish. I have a 40 gallon tank in my bedroom with catfish, swordtails, and angels. It is a rewarding, stress-relieving hobby.
