i say we keep the floor material to carpet. if we had dirt/water/ice, it just wouldnt be the same. at that point, its no longer FIRST. HDPE was a cool idea, but maybe there's a way we can use it for different purpose instead of the top to a ramp.

Recycled tires would be interesting... like the flooring you can find on some playgrounds / rock-gyms. It is less likely to go flying than sand or corn, but would provide a unique, "Bouncy", and somewhat easy to move ground covering.
