Gracious Professionalism in Toronto
While at the Toronto Regional this weekend, I saw one team demonstrate gracious professionalism at its best. And the best part about it was that it was a rookie team.
At the end of the qualification matches Team 1511 was seeded 16th. They knew that there was a slight possibility that they might have the pick an alliance so they had a list ready. As we all know they amazingly slipped to the second round and were quickly picked up by the #1 seeded alliance. The picking processed kept going and the #2 alliance was asked to pick a third partner. They chose a team only to find out that that team had been moved up and was on the #8 alliance. After a long pause the representative from 1511 walked over and asked the #2 alliance if they would like to look at the list they had made up. The alliance ended up using it and put together a very competitive alliance. This impressed me so much especially from a rookie. 1511 had impressed everyone this season and this is just another example of what a model team they have already become. You guys know myself along with the rest of 229, love you guys and are so proud of you. I’m so glad I got to see you guys take home the gold, rookie inspiration, and spirit this weekend. |

Sounds like 1511's got the GP thing figured out. I know first-hand how tough it is to try to teach newbies about it. Way to go 1511!

Re: Gracious Professionalism in Toronto
Thank you so much Adrienne. Tommy Cavalier was our Representative and he is an amazing coach.
Our team saw so much Gracious Professionalism at the GTR it was an amazing experience. So many teams just helping each other out in time of need. Our chain was very loose on Thursday and we had multiple teams lending us extra chain and giving us an extra hand so that we could compete. We were so happy to be apart of the GTR and on behalf of my team we would like to thank everyone for helping us out. Thank you again for coming and supporting us Adrienne and thank you for the compliment. |
Re: Gracious Professionalism in Toronto
Thanks Adrienne,
I really knew our team got it, when they first wanted to ask to not be considered for the rookie all stars in Cleveland and Toronto after winning it in Rochester... They wanted more rookies to go to atlanta. In cleveland, they gave out so many parts to different teams, and helped rebuild 1308... it was amazing... And then in toronto, they spanned out across all the teams to try and help the teams get their robots running. Our programmers spent hours with 1620, and our pit crew helped out several other teams. Plus Tommy then helping out the 2nd seed... well they just continue to shock and amaze me. Sitting here, Im not exactly sure how they really got it. I think it must have just come naturally, as they are really a great team, and have fallen in love with FIRST. But to do so well in all of our regionals, and to have such a great attitude about everything, wow. All of this, and they are still very humble. In a way, I sometimes like to just sit back and see what they come up with. I cant wait to see what Atlanta holds in store for our team, and what our team will come up with next. Great job guys! And toronto & its teams, thanks for an awesome regional! |
