Re: pic: "I see bald people!"
I guess John and Chris shouldn't have bet our team that they would shave their heads if we medaled at 2 regionals! :)
Take a look at pictures of the whole event here: http://www.team229.org/photo/57/ P.S. I think Joel is even smiling in one of them!!! |
Re: pic: "I see bald people!"

Bald is a good look! |
Re: pic: "I see bald people!"
Well, it'll grow back! Just make sure you wear suntan lotion on your head in Atlanta! ;)

Re: pic: "I see bald people!"
God your Grandmother must be proud. Or only your grandmother could be proud.
It's most definately time to start the "There's No [expletive deleted] Way I'm JVN" Club. |

I guess this means that I can now say that instead of the dumbest, I made only the SECOND DUMBEST bet for this competition season!

Hmm, either Potsdam's thawing out or 229 just got in a shipment of winter hats...
It's always nice to see people following in the footsteps...of Elgin. ;) (Come on, Elgin, you knew that we wouldn't let you live that down!) |
Re: pic: "I see bald people!"
You guys are braver than I. I am thinking "why would anyone just shave their head like that? It might not grow back and then where will you be?" Evolution can be cruel sometimes. Of course, as a child of the sixties, hair was once important and I wouldn't part with it on a bet. (I can't believe I said that, it must be really late.)

Re: pic: "I see bald people!"
I guess I should chime in and tell the back story to this whole thing. It all started when I was studying one night and John came in and said, "Chris we should promise the team we'll shave our heads if we medal at two regionals as motivation for the team to do well," and I was very resistant to the idea. However he kept bugging me, and finally I did some mental math (I've been in FIRST for 6 years won a medal once) so it seemed like a pretty safe bet. So I agreed to it just to get him to leave me alone.
Next thing I knew the bet was sent out in an email to the whole team, I still wasn't that nervous. Then once the team silvered at FLR they started to get into. I kept hearing things like "one more" from everyone, and as you can see from the pictures even Joel got into it calling first dibs on my head if we got another medal. The rest as they say is history. It was definately good for team, I was surprised by how into it everyone got. The chance to see both JVN and I bald was an amazing motivational tactic. But it was well worth it we had a great team this year, an amazing season, and I for one know that I'm going to miss everyone who won't be back next year both college and high school. The best quote of the night was when John was asked if he had any last words, he looked at the sky and said, “Please God let it grow back." Ahh the things we do for FIRST. See you all in Atlanta, Chris C. |
Re: pic: "I see bald people!"
Yeah Chris it really was good motivation for us.
(Anyone else notice the difference in hair between John and Chris??) In the end they were eager to get a couple of us High schoolers up in the chairs for next year. Joel already called first dibs on my head. It was a lot of fun and well worth it. John's ending line, “Please God let it grow back." Chris was definitely right, best line of the night, next to everyone noticing just how much he looked like Pee-Wee Herman. ;) JT 229 |
