Get a diesel engine. The gas is cheaper, and the cars get 50 miles/gallon.

Car/Truck?

Do u mean a diesel engine in a car or a pick-up truck????

Clark Gilbert 12-08-2001 22:20

EPA

I thought cars that used to have diesel engines only got like 25 EPA mph, back then it was good but now its just average.....:)

EddieMcD 13-08-2001 16:38

No, diesel engines are very efficient.

Also another thing to watch out for in NYC...Greyhound bus drivers that wish they were taxi drivers. Pat can back me up on the driver that was making the bus weave through NYC traffic on the way to Florida this year!

P.S. --> You should all be proud of me, I finally went down to the RMV and got my permit today with plans to start drivers ed within a month

We call it the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles), and I still have to wait a year before I can make good use of it. :(

Lora Knepper 14-08-2001 19:27

Thanks ;) RMV = Registry of Motor Vehicles. I got in trouble with the lady at the counter when I asked if I should make out the check to the "DMV" (Department of Motor Vehicles)....she kinda yelled at me for that one. *shrugs* What can I say, Bostonians are odd.

Virginia has DMV and Florida has something like Driver's License Bureau I think, it's weird sounding to me. Anyway, about this diesel thing. They get good mileage sometimes. If you just plan on running in somewhere and dropping something off you should leave them running. The gas mileage really sucks if you start them up and shut them off often. Semis get good mileage because they run the trucks incessantly, ever wonder why they stay running when the drivers stopt to eat? Other than that diesels stink and are a pain in the rear to maintain, their also noisey. As far as gas prices, they really aren't better. For the price, amount you buy, and how often it all evens out. Diesels are cheaper on most insurances though. They rank up there with standard cars, 2 doors, and non red paints.

EddieMcD 15-08-2001 15:45

The one problem with diesel is that it pollutes the air more than unleaded.

Carolyn Duncan 15-08-2001 23:38

They are putting better catalytic converters on diesels so they aren't polluting that much any more. The biggest reason they pollute is the lack of refining as compared to unleaded fuels.

EddieMcD 16-08-2001 16:36

Well, if IT is a new engine, we won't have to worry about that much longer.
