The best car
I must say that Hummer's are cool and all, but America just doesn't make cars like Europe. Germany in particular. My favorite car would definetly be the Porsche 959. What a car!!!!!!
|
Smart Cars
I love the little European Smart Cars, they are deathtraps but the coolest cars I've ever seen :). They were so cute :)
|
I agree, German cars are pretty sweet. They are fast and cool looking only problem is they are pretty pricey. Oh well, someday. . maybe I'll be driving to a competition in a Beamer. .
-Katie |
the 70 mustang boss is the best
|
Porche 911 Super sport is better than the 959. However if you're gonna spend the money go for the Lamborgini Diablo. Can't beat it with foreign cars.
|
just wondering.. how do all of these cars fare in the snow?? I'll take my 4wd ford escape over any of those cars in a new england winter :)
Then again... the summer is another story :) any BMW sounds good to me. Tom |
McLaren F1
The McLaren F1 is capable of 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and a top speed in excess of 240 mph. The McLaren F1 is the fastest, most powerful and most expensive production car in the world. One key design feature of the McLaren F1 is the positioning of the driver - in the middle, with two passenger seats aft of either side. This is one bad car.
She's so Beautiful!!  |
I guess the steering wheel/ shotgun war is over. You won't be able to say, "Hey! That car' steering wheel is on the wrong side." Nor will freinds be fighting over shotgun. Sounds good. WHat's the gas mileage like? I know Hummers only get about 1 to 1.5 mpg on the street.

V12!!!!!
GLUG GLUG GLUG! There's no way you get any kind of gas mileage with that car, I drive a V8 and that's bad enough. The body/frame leaves a bit to be desired. It's like a corvette, you have a little fender bender and the car is nearly totaled because carbon/fiber mix cracks like eggshells dropped on the floor. Did you notice that some of the specs are in english measurements and the others are metric? Kinda strange.
|
i just pasted those specs from another site. didn't realize they were in metric. and when people drive that car, they prolly don't worry about gas milage.

Its all about the hemis
My fav car that i would looove to have is a hemi 'cuda ooo so nice, nothing like good old mopar power, the only problem is to get one say a 1970 i need about 70,000 bux not to mention the money to get to it or ship it and pay for the gas but i still want one. *drools*
Hemis r soo nice |
More info....another Mclaren

Actually Corvette's don't have a carbon/fiber frame. The Corvette safety cage (frame) is made from steel. Corvettes, and all new cars, have crumple zones that are designed to be compacted in a crash to absorb the energy, is this what you are referring to? Also the frame on a McLaren F1 is VERY structurally sound, and will not 'crack like eggshells' |

The Porsche 911 has all wheel drive, but it is not standard
The basic model of the Porsche 911 Carrera is not all wheel drive. You must boost your spending up a couple thousand dollars to the C4 or ( carrera 4). Although they do have exceptional traction on wet and dry roads, the ground clearance isn't to good for the snow. You would be better off with a Ford Escape. Porsche's still are the best cars in the world though.
The Porsche 911 is all wheel drive. It will fare MUCH better in the snow then your ford escape.... [/b][/quote] |

I was thinking of the Porsche 911 turbo when I referred to the all wheel drive.

I got to check out a Carrera today and I must say "Sweet!" the thing was awesome and corners like it's on rails! I've never had so much fun riding in a car.

hmmm about cars shattering...
when i totalled my old wagon i realized that the design incorporated ceramic parts...there were shattered pieces and ceramic slithers all over the place. |
1986 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS STATION WAGON BEST VEHICLE EVER MADE
Mike, I think you might back me up here (or at least partially). The 1986 Grand Marquis wagon is what I drive and couldn't love the thing more. Leather interior, a big 5.0L V8 engine, and room for all your friends and then some! Beating base model mustangs off the line in this thing is hilarious. ;) In general the thing is just 2 tons of pure enjoyment.
~Tom~, who simply loves his car. :D P.S. I've put in two 12" sub woofers in it too, so it can even out blast the low riding types too. |
I still like my Bannana Boat better. 1977 Cadilac Sedan De Vile with an 8-track player. Plenty of room for people and built like a tank.
|
Tank eh? Happens to be my plates. DA TANK
~Tom~, proud driver of DA TANK |
i gotta agree with tom on that one...
one of the best things i ever did in it (i think) was driving it up this hill through the woods... |
For an American made car, I would go with the Viper. I looks mean even standing still.
For an older car, I would get the 1971 Lincoln Pantera. For a foreign car I would get the Lamborghini Diablo or the Lotus Esprit. For all wheel drive I would get the Lamborghini. Not sure what the model is but it has the Lambo 12 cylinder engine and will go 110 mph in the sand. If you want to see a boat you should see my brothers 1970 Pontiac Bonneville :) |

|
Do you mean that in a good way? I hope so.
|
insane is a very good adjective as far as im concerned...
|
That's good. Last time I mentioned the Diablo, no one seemed interested in it.
|
probably just no one picked up on it
|
That seems to happen often. I guess no one really reads my posts...
|
probably not
mike whos theory in life is 'smile and nod' |
I wish I could drive, but thanks to RI state law, I have to wait until I'm 17.
|
17....
Man if it was like that here in Indiana i would go nuts....I think it would drive my parents crazy too if they still had to drive me everyhwere....:)
|
Well, I turn 16 in October, and it really ticks me off.
|
Just before I got my learner's VA was talking about changing the age to 18. YIKES! It freaked me out so bad I went and got my learner's as soon as I could, that way I would get grandfathered in. They haven't changed it yet, I don't think. Anyways, it didn't matter much because I wasn't allowed to drive much until my senior year anyway. grrrrr!

Ok...so I don't know how to drive yet, and yes, I'm over 18....what can I say, the public transit system in Boston is just too good... and traffic too bad! But once I decide to learn.... oh yeah, look for me in a big truck with a FIRST decal on the side of the bed :p *tries not to drool too much* ~ lora |
Dodge Ram
Hey Lora, wanna know what kind of vehicle I drive? Here's a hint: it's ideal. Scares anyone who thinks about messing with you, freaks out people who cut you off when your behind them at a stop light and rev the engine,... I could go on forever about the fun things to do with a Dodge Ram. Oooops! Guess I ruined your guessing.
|
Dodge Ram......
You want to see Dodge Rams come to KOKOMO, INDIANA!
We have 2 giant daimler chrylser transmission plants and about 60% of the people who work at them drive Dodge Rams.....plus all the people that drive them that dont work at Chrysler.....its insane:) |
lora...i live in boston...i abuse the t's goodness. but i got my permit the day i was old enough to. got my lisence as soon as i could. the t is no excuse to not have a lisence
|
The T is great in Boston to avoid traffic. I always take it if I'm up there to go see the Red Sox or Bruins.
|
Better yet, when I lived in DC I used to ride the metro. You can go everywhere on that thing. It was always fun to make fun of the suits.
|
Suits?
|
The people who had to wear suits to work, the important people who don't kow that they are regular people like everyone else.
|
Oh yeah!
*hits himself on the forehead* |

we don't really have a good public transportation system in our city. we have a bus system but it's downtown but not many people use it. our city really isn't big enough to really need one anyways. i can't even imagine what it's like to not have a license. i love being able to drive myself where ever i feel like going.

you all who have ever had public transportation have no clue how lucky you are..we have nothing even remotely close to that with-in 30 minutes of Stuart (West Palm has Palm Tram and Tri-rail). I wish we had it. I'm just afraid to get my license. There's also that whole thing about being able to afford gas/car/insurance. Oh well. Guess I'll get my license when I know I have to (which isn't right now) or when my friends finally bug the crap out of me to get it.
~Angela who's goal is to get her license before Matt gets his |
Fish, don't get your license!! not in FL!! It stinks! People here are insane and can't drive (me being one of them ;) )Plus, you don't wanna drive Rob around everyplace, do ya? I would tell u about that trips you're parents would make you take to get groceries, but you're not that far away from a Publix :)
|

yeah..I know whatcha mean..but the thing is, Rob turns 16 in December and can get his license in early February. So..yeah..he'll be driving me anywhere. lol (BTW..Rob is my little brother) ~Angela who actually trusts Rob's driving..scary.. |

There is no public transportation here in Indy.. there is INDYGO, but it doesn't come as far south as where we are.... and it only goes downtown. Right now I am content with the Jeep, but the only thing is taht gas costs so much... I just paid $1.36... and almost cried when i filled the tank!
|
Re: Re: Correct Hummer Gas Mileage

What year do you have? my bf has an '85 and it gets horrible mileage. |
$1.36 for gas? EVIL!
We pay on averge $1.60 to $1.70. |
That is expensive for me, considering that i can fill up the tank on $20, but it only lasts like 3 days... it gets expensive at $1.36.. but some place not really close to me had gas for 99 cents, but i was on my way to volleyball practice so i couldn't get it. It was down to 1.16 one day.
|
Gas prices at 1.36???
I hate michigan. Gas yesterday was 1.43. Granted my car's a 90 Tracer. Awesome mileage. Lately been pullin darn near 30 with it. Whoo! saving me money with these high prices.

Get a diesel engine. The gas is cheaper, and the cars get 50 miles/gallon.

No, diesel engines are very efficient.

Thanks ;) RMV = Registry of Motor Vehicles. I got in trouble with the lady at the counter when I asked if I should make out the check to the "DMV" (Department of Motor Vehicles)....she kinda yelled at me for that one. *shrugs* What can I say, Bostonians are odd.
~ lora |
Virginia has DMV and Florida has something like Driver's License Bureau I think, it's weird sounding to me. Anyway, about this diesel thing. They get good mileage sometimes. If you just plan on running in somewhere and dropping something off you should leave them running. The gas mileage really sucks if you start them up and shut them off often. Semis get good mileage because they run the trucks incessantly, ever wonder why they stay running when the drivers stopt to eat? Other than that diesels stink and are a pain in the rear to maintain, their also noisey. As far as gas prices, they really aren't better. For the price, amount you buy, and how often it all evens out. Diesels are cheaper on most insurances though. They rank up there with standard cars, 2 doors, and non red paints.
|
The one problem with diesel is that it pollutes the air more than unleaded.
|
They are putting better catalytic converters on diesels so they aren't polluting that much any more. The biggest reason they pollute is the lack of refining as compared to unleaded fuels.
|
Well, if IT is a new engine, we won't have to worry about that much longer.
|
That may be true but is that something that would change the world and should have been made already? Why would anyone think of designing a new engine when we are happy with what we have now?
|
If it saves tons of money on feul costs, then yes.
