The San Diego Lock-in and Scrimmage

Hey,

I just wanted to know if any teams were going to attend the San Diego Scrimmage, besides the San Diego teams hosting it.

Is there a list of all the teams currently signed up? That would be great. Thanks. :)

EDIT: Also, will there be a mentor only competition like I hear they have at IRI? Sometimes us non-high school folks like to get a chance on the controls too. (pretty please???).

I have sent in a request to my mentor Sanddrag. That's actually a really good idea as it might attract more peopel to come since I'm sure there will be a couple of powerhouses there including yourself.

Re: The San Diego Lock-in and Scrimmage

Alright this is great, from what I've heard so far, we wish to have at least 24 teams for obvious reasons like the elimination matches. San Diego Scrimmage is only 3.5 weeks away, we hope everyone recovers from the official season soon so they can attend. Remember May 20th and 21st is only a coupld of weeks before a lot of graduations; how great would it be to spend some quality time down in San Diego doing the thing that most of us are addicted to; ROBOTICS. Hope to see everyone in San Diego!!!

Where can I get more information about the lock-in? Our team went last year but I'm not sure if we're going this year, if not, I might still be up for a drive down just to participate and help out :)

Here is the current list of teams that have either actually paid or verbally said that they would be in attendance. This list can change at any moment and is not yet official! There's still plenty of room for teams so come on down to San Diego! If you contact me by May 1 about your attendance, you do not have to pay the late fee!!!!

22, 606, 696, 812, 980 (rumored to be bring TWO bots), 1011, 1079, 1138, 1266, 1372, 1527, 1538, 1572, 1613, 1622, 1682

Where are the veteran teams!??!

Thanks for the list. After being in this for 5 years now, I would consider 696 a "veteran team" so "right here!" too.

But yes, I'd like to see teams like 968 and 294 on that list too.

Re: The San Diego Lock-in and Scrimmage

Our goal is to top out at 24 teams.. but we only have 16 teams signed up- 8 more teams to go...
Hope to see you guys in sunny San Diego! It's tons of fun.. almost 48 hours of being around people who love robots.. after the season!
22 days and some hours left until the scrimmage..

Re: The San Diego Lock-in and Scrimmage

Besides my question of "will there be a mentor's only round" I have another question.

Will there be a truck pull or tug of war competition? I think we can win that with this. :D

Even if there ins't an official pulling competition, I still challenge anyone to try to out pull us. Perhaps 2 at a time? Note, I can't speak for the rest of 696 so if they don't want to do it we won't, but I do think they'd be up for a good pull or two

And even beyond pulling, maybe a few of you would like to engage us in a pushing match during actual game play. Maybe even team up on us. No one ever really challenged us into a pushing match at the LA regional (because the mere threat of a 6 motor two speed made them run away :D) but I really would like to get a chance to exhibit the shear power of the HexaMax R2. Mwuhahaha

:)

Hey David, we'll take you up on that offer. We may not have a 6 motor drive train...but hey, we have a turbo button:D. We never used it at Atlanta during competition, but we tried it tethered out on the practice field there. We were easily pulling off wheelies:D...but we almost broke one of our serial cables. Hopefully, we can unleash its awesome power at San Diego.

WOWZERS... looks like SD is turning out to be the premiere off-season event. Who knows, maybe we'll get a regional here one of these days !?!?!?!

PS: It might a little too late, but make sure you have registered to avoid the late fee

Looking forward to seeing you and everyone else at the event!

I'll have an updated list posted in the next couple of days!

Also, we have not set how many matches each team will get yet. There will be ample match time, but we don't want the situation where you come off the field only to go right back on!

That's prom for RUHS. Personally, I don't care because I'm not going to prom anyways, but I may have projects to deal with (even my APs are assigning projects in that time period).

Oh you know it! I wish there could be 4 team alliances so it would be those 3 with 330. Anyway, I hope this time we get to play with some of these great teams in the finals instead of having to go against them. If we go against you, it will be a hard fight for both of us but if we are with you, it will be a clean sweep!

I agree! If we go against each other in finals, hope 980 and/or 22 isn't with

We should see if a four motor drive can beat a six motor in speed and pushing power...

I won't be there due to a prior commitment, but I wish I were!

Can we make a rule that they are never allowed to play on the same alliance? Not to single out 980 but I'm just saying one of them is bad (in a good way) enough. If there are twins now we are in for TOTAL DOMINATION! :D All I can hope for is that we get on that alliance instead of having to go against it. /me is scared

Two 980s vs. 330 would be highly entertaining.

Unfortunately, due to a lack of interest, we will not be going to San Diego. However, we will be at JPL this weekend for at least one day. Hope to see everybody there!

Dont forget that you would need a whole different drive team to operate the second robot...
Still would be cool to see them on the same alliance :D

While we appreciate the confidence you have in us, I would like to point out that of the 4 operators on the 2 drive teams, only 1 is an experienced operator, and he won't be in his normal role.

The lock-in was entertaining at first. I was sleeping near the door in the gym. If you were at the kareoke (i can't spell that) and you walked into the gym at the nearest door, i was sleeping right there witht the rest of our team. i sorta slept, but the kareoke was horrible, at like 3 in the morning some chick was singing and she sounded drunk. regardless, the competition was great. i was on team 1457(16 as their numbers went), and we came 6th during the qualifying. and no, i don't know about a silver xbox controller, sorry.

I would gladly pay an increase in registration fee if there were some large industrial fans as each door of the gym. It was so incredibly hot in there, must have been 90+. I think the only reason I wouldn't want to go again is that the heat was unbearable. Also, I think the cold sodas ran out before the end of the day, so next year maybe plan on more. The big projector screen was great, but it was so dim that it kind of defeated the purpose of having it so big. I stood right in front of it and couldn't read the rankings, so maybe next year a smaller but brighter screen would be better. Sounds for start of match, end of auto, and end of match would be good. The field was pretty good, but if there were a couple safety issues with the lack of pressure pads and side lexan panels.

Overall, it was a good event and I hope more teams attend next year!

Last year, DDR was the popular thing.. this year, it was karaoke.. We had odd songs- anyone could sing.. we just had a great time laughing and doing whatever.. Any new activity suggestions are welcome.
Anyways, thanks for all the constructive criticism.. please add if necessary.. :D
Hope everyone had a great time, and see you next year!
