Re: pic: When it rains in Atlanta, it pours...
The last time it rained like this at Champs it was 2001 and there was the infamous pit flood. It's bad, and it's lighting now, but there is no forcast of rain tomorrow.

Re: pic: When it rains in Atlanta, it pours...
I was walking with our robot to the field when it started raining. We passed one open loading dock door and saw cloudy skies, walked 30ft and passed another only to see torrential downpour!
I didn't really think much of it until we came to a waterfall across the blue carpet path. |
Re: pic: When it rains in Atlanta, it pours...
Right before the rain arrived, when the wind suddenly kicked up, there was a ton of debris in the air. Funniest thing I remember about is that everyone seemed to realize at the same time, "This is the FIRST Championships... that means we have safety glasses! ". For about a minute, people were standing in the 50 mile per hour gusts getting blown around.
Then the rain came. |

OMFG i came out of the elvevator and the rain was at a 90 degree angle and all the trashcan's flew everywhere along with the trash. and the giant enflatable men went bye bye lol

Welcome to the SOUTH'S crazy weather its CRAZY
|
Re: pic: When it rains in Atlanta, it pours...
Speaking of crazy weather, the average weather website is predicting 6-12 inches of snow the next two days for the metro detroit area. And it was 83 degrees on Tuesday. :ahh: Moral of the story - Metro detroit teams bring the Atlanta style crazy weather back with you. I love snow and all but it's nearly May. Of course, you never can count on the weather predictions. So we shall see.

Those storms in Atlanta though were wicked! |
Re: pic: When it rains in Atlanta, it pours...
Yeah that day of the storm really caused a huge mess for alot of teams that needed to get to the field and practice, They had to re-route the teams so that nothing would get wet, for like 30 minutes there was a dry spell of teams on the fields. =(. Georgia is known for very very dangerous weather espicially thunder storms or just lightening. Luckily I was indoors all day although I was hoping to go sit and watch the storm, Storms in Georgia are alot different then storms in other states.
For some reason I don't remember the storms in 2001 except the evening storm which we were told to get out of the pool at WDW Resorts. |
Re: pic: When it rains in Atlanta, it pours...
Our team was eating lunch when the storm came and we saw a minature dust storm and I suggested we leave then and we stayed until it started to rain then left. We were drenched. trashbag ponchos :p

Re: pic: When it rains in Atlanta, it pours...
Yea, it was a good rain though. Right before it started there was the large gusts of wind. 2 of our teammates were walking near the fountains when a gust of wind came and they got drenched. It was funny. I got some good "emo" shots with that storm, maybe i'll post em up sometime soon. lol

Re: pic: When it rains in Atlanta, it pours...
I had a friend, cough BuringQuestion cough, who skated across that large puddle during the storm. She jumped onto the first board, slid across, then WALKED, across the other boards. without spashing any water.
i didnt even know that there was a second storm that night. when i woke up my roommates told me that there was a storm. Also during this storm a chair blew into the hot tub, and it was spinning around all night. |
