Re: pic: When it rains in Atlanta, it pours...
I was down waiting between matches in the corral when this started, that wasn't fun to try and avoid all the dripping water from the roof of the walkway that all the bots had to use between the field and the pit. At one point we were seconds away from putting trash bags on the bot and controls, because we were stuck in the corral/dome for 5 hours or so because we had 3 matches so close to each other that they wouldn't let us go back to the pit.

If you were not taking a robot to the field, you could get there mostly dry, though the way to do that was pretty crowded. Out the short way from the pits, hug the building, go up the ramps to the Dome level, dash for the Dome through the puddles. Lots of fun.

As it turns out, the umbrella hat actually works!
...Then the wind blew it off of my head. |
Re: pic: When it rains in Atlanta, it pours...
I was in the pits when it started to rain and I was in the pits when it stoped, the only reason I knew it was raining was when some people came back to the pits all wet.

Re: pic: When it rains in Atlanta, it pours...
well, when i was caught in the rain, i was 10ft away from the pit building when my hat flies off. So i turn around and chase my hat, which blows underneath one of those concert fences. So then i realize, i have to sprint 50yds down to the end of the fence, 50yds back to my hat where it was caught on a tree. so after retrieving my hat, i run back. and for being a skinny kid totally out of shape from not playing any sports this year(except the occasional football game) i ran in not out of breathe. And also being from michigan, i didnt wanna go back after hearing about the snow. I did all that yard work just the weekend before.

I have seen worse. That is like a normal summer day here. Although this is coming from a guy who lived in Florida most of his life, and rode out several hurricanes... :p

Re: pic: When it rains in Atlanta, it pours...
I was running like mad from pit to archimedes field, which happens to be on the far side of the dome. Everytime we had a match I was on field, the moment it was over, I was running back to the pits for scouting. Yeah, lets just say that on the way back, I ran through the rain and got to the dome, I forgot that the dome has extra smooth floors. :) Slicked with the rain, I must have wiped out a good 4-5 feet. My side still hurts. Wish I had got to see the dancing men fly away :)

Yeah a teammate and I were coming back from lunch, riding the escalator back down to the dome. Then we both see this white fog approaching from the distance. And we're both like... That's not good... Then we got hit by the downpour lol. We sprinted across to the dome, only spending about 2 seconds in the rain, and got totally soaked lol.

Re: pic: When it rains in Atlanta, it pours...
Those pictures don't really do the power of that storm justice.
I heard a door was ripped open by the winds and a light was knocked down inside the dome. Our kids said they thought a tornado had dropped down . |
