Re: Guy tripping on escalator

Our team had several students race up the stairs friday evening...It could have been one of us....
On saturday, My friend and i started jogging up the stairs and just before I reached the top I tripped and started going down the escalator, then my friend picked me up and carried me to the top (all done in a goofy manner of course).
however, when I tripped my leg fell on one of the dumb spikes on the step..
oh well...
At least people still thought it was funny :D

I guess I'm getting old enough now to be the "adult" and say that running up the down escalators is really foolish.
Yes it is really foolish......but it was alot faster than the line for the correct escalator

I know I did at one point just to catch a match... or was it one of the other team members... meh...

A couple of the mentors on my team also did the same... actually, no, only one... but a lot of the students did it... For one reason or another. Freak out the chaperones (Bad idea...), rushing to get something, just plain impatient, etc.

Gosh, a 12 pound laptop? That really has to sting... hope it's still in one piece (as well as your team member, of course!)

Now that I think about it... did anyone go down the up escalator?

About half of my team went up the down escalator on Saturday when everyone was leaving, the one right next to the dome that was always crowded, but no one was going down when we went on it Saturday, it was exhausting, I think we passed everyone on the up escalator.

Everyone's admitting they ran up the down escalator, it's kinda funny...

I shouldn't say anything, my ankle still bites in pain from it.

But I'm going to go off and see if I can find anyone on our team who has anything like that... there were a lot of people taking pictures of it, so there's a good chance something like that would have happened...

Bah, out smart everyone, use an ELEVATOR :) I avoided tons of people inside the GWCC by using the elvators to get to the pit level. :)

Can't use an elevator when there isn't one ;)! I do realize that there is one inside the GWCC, but depending on where you were going, it could have been really far out of your way.

At nationals last year, my whole team had a competition to run up the MARTA escalators by the Peachtree. We went down to teh station at about 1:00 and got to racing. My team is stereotypically dorky, and no one except me participates in any athletic activity. Putting my X-Country and track skills to use, i proceeded to annihhilate my teammates, putting forth a mighty time of 32 seconds. Good times.

Yeah several or our guys ran up the down escalator at the dome. Unfortunatly, I had stepped in some water before going up one of the three times, and slipped about half-way up. That was Friday. I cought myself though. The first time you feel like puking, the second you have built up a bit of stamina, and the third is like the first for some reason(Probably because I drank a soda before it). Short= Get tired fast. -My experience.

At nationals we were carrying extra tools and equipment from the airport to our hotel. I got stuck with the really heavy battery cart with wheels on the bottom. You know that one really really really long and steep escalator at the airport? Well when we were riding it, it was jammed pack from top to bottom. So I just set up the battery cart on its side, but it didn't quite fit the stair. Towards the top the thing starts to slip but luckily, the team members behind me stopped it before it went more than a step or two.

Though it made me think about what would have happened if they hadn't caught it. A 20-30 pound battery cart tumbling 100 feet down a crammed escalator, gaining momentum and knocking out everyone's knees on the way. Ouch!

But I'm glad that didn't happen. Be careful with wheels on escalators! :)
