2005 IRI Flight/Travel Arrangements

Use this thread for the following:

- if you have a flight into the Indianapolis airport, and will need a ride to the event/hotel (please state this clearly, and where exactly you'll need to go)
- if you are looking to come to IRI, and want to find people in your area to ride along with
- if you are looking for different ways of coming to the IRI (flight, bus, etc.)
- if you are looking for directions or the best way of getting to the event from your hotel
- if you have any other general questions about flights/travel arrangements

On behalf of IndianaFIRST, I can't wait to see everyone there! I'm sure all of you will make this year's event bigger and better than ever!

I'll start this shindig off. I definitly want to head up to IRI, and would like to make it into a roadtrip kind've deal. Is anybody else in the Southeastern US area interested in doing something like that?

A call for volunteers will probably be posted later... you can PM Chris Fultz on these here forums for more answers about that.

As for the best day to come in, either Thursday night or Friday morning is probably best, but that's just from opinion. Whenever it's cheapest is what I would suggest... there are FIRSTers in Indy that can probably pick everyone up and take them to hotels during Wednesday and Thursday, too.

our arm operator and I have been planning a road trip after our senior year to Cedar Point Ohio since we were freshman... perhaps we will conveniently place it a couple days before IRI... I don't know. Perhaps I'll make a push for 1390 to go. I want to find SOME WAY to get to IRI.

I'll probably be flying into Indy on Tuesday again for a stay at DJ's resort (The indian moved out, no more casino :p ) and then head back to indy thurs for the competition.

For people flying in, check Southwest's weekly specials, there can be some very good ones.

I am looking to fly into Indy on Thursday and fly out on Sunday. I would probably fly out of Rochester or Buffalo. Right now all I really need is a place to stay, that is all that is really keeping me from going at the moment.

It looks like there are several florida area teams 'thinking' of coming to the IRI. Maybe you could all pool a bus and share the expense?

Most of team 1083 will be flying this year. For any of you that remember our trip from last year.. I am sure you can understand why :)

We were going to stay in the Omni, but they told me today they are sold out for the dates of IRI. Any other suggestions of hotels that are near to the event?

Thanks!
Nathan Pell

OMNI
8181 North Shadeland Ave
Indianapolis, IN 46250

Candlewood Suites

Super 8 Indianapolis NE Castleton

These were the 2004 IRI 'host' hotels. We have not set up rates yet for 2005. There is also a new hotel in the area that contacted us about being a host hotel (how cool is that!). It is at work, so I will edit / add it to this list tomorrow.

Anyone going by chartered bus from New England?

Chris Hibner 27-04-2005 08:43

Re: 2005 IRI Flight/Travel Arrangements

I would be up for sharing a hotel room if anyone is interested. I also may need a ride, but I'm not sure yet.

Edit: When I say "need a ride", I just mean locally. I don't need a ride from Detroit to Indy.

It's been discussed, but we need other team(s) from the area to come as well, we can't even come close to supporting it ourselves......

im goign to try and convince our head team menotrs/parents to see if we could take a core team down *drive team, 1-2 pit, and a parent or two* and if anyone was chartering a bus from NE if this is able to work out then i would deffinatley go for the bus ride *cheaper... no shipping yay :D*

but even if the team doesnt go, i was looking to car-pool or hop on a bus for a cost from anywhere just about in NE...

In addition to Southwest, AirTran now flies out of Indianapolis and they have some ridiculously low rates.

Do you mean full teams, or individuals to help chip in on costs, or maybe both?

I so want to go to IRI because I missed Atlanta this year.

...and because I have never actually hung out with those crazy FIRSTers from the midwest ever, and they seem like a pretty cool bunch to hang out with if they let me..

Or maybe we can drive out in a caravan together. Right now our tentative plans are to take our seniors out in the motorhome. Then we can help with the tailgating party, too! :D

Re: 2005 IRI Flight/Travel Arrangements

I'm looking for a hotel buddy. This poor college student can't afford to pay for her own room all by herself. On the plus side, I only live about an hour from Indy, and I have a car, so if you want to split a room with me, and you're coming from out of town, I'll even pick you up from the airport and provide transportation while you're here....ah, who am I kidding, I'd do that for anybody. What can I say, I'm a sucker for FIRST-ers. Also, anybody wanting to car pool with me in the general vicinity of west/lafayette indiana, let me know.

Amanda

9 Miles down I-465

You might want to try the Extended Stay North on Shadeland Ave, the rates are around $65, its only a mile or so away from the school and you do not have to worry about going on any interstates

Any major airports besides IND to fly out of? I'm looking for a Friday night flight out to Buffalo and was looking for a different airport to shop around at.

Almost 100% sure there's no airports with significant commercial service anywhere near. AFAIK the next largest airport closest to Indy is Chicago Midway and O'Hare.

Re: 2005 IRI Flight/Travel Arrangements

If you are going to need a ride to/from the airport to the venue or to your hotel, please PM me immediately. I am going to begin compiling a list of who needs rides at what time, and finding a pool of drivers willing to pick up and drop off.

At this time, I don't need to know who needs a ride to and from the venue every day from their hotels, only who needs a ride to the school from the airport, and who will need a ride back to the airport after it's all over. Give me your flight times, and I will try to save everyone some money.

I'm picking up Aaron Lussier at the Indy airport ay 11:30 - if anyone else needs a ride around that time (plus or minus about half an hour, please!) send me a PM/IM - I'll have room for ~2 more.
