Team Numbers in Everyday Places

Right before nationals this year, I started noticing our team number (217) in everyday places. For example, gas prices dropped to right about $2.17 everywhere around my house just about a week before nats.

Where have you seen your team number (or any other ones, for that matter) in places where you wouldn't expect it? Post any good (humorous or entertaining) pictures, please.

Re: Team Numbers in Everyday Places

Whenever 116 appears anywhere, someone on our team notices and its quite amusing. Locker number 116, room number 116, receipt number 116, ect. ect. ect.
I also have started noticing other team numbers too. Like room 233, and 2:33, whenever I see those, I "Think Pink" (pun fully intended). When I see 6:23 on a clock I think about Oakton High School. ect. ect. ect.

There is a sign in our county that says Route 616 and an arrow pointing to Courtland. So we basically have 616 leading to Courtland in more than one way ;)

I know exactly what all of you are talking about.
Every time i look at my watch and see 3:65 o'clock I always thing, darn i gotta get a new watch...

But seriously i see FIRST team numbers everywhere and it always makes me happy to think of the teams and the people.

I notice other team numbers much more than my own. It was not a good feeling to see "233" on gas station signs. When I come back from Stuart FL to see my SPAM friends I have to get off on exit 180 to go home. Weird stuff.

I always seem to look at the clock whenever it says 11:23. It's sad because that's my boyfriend's team and I really miss him. >_<;

But yeah. There's an exit on the beltway numbered 7. I always laugh when I see it, and people look at me funny when I laugh saying "haha...7...xD" It's like..."Dori, are you okay!?" xD Oh, what FIRST does to me.

Also there's an exit 1 here...and I usually can relate a team number to SOMETHING...

Re: Team Numbers in Everyday Places

I also notice other numbers, since it's a pain in the butt to find anything that's $12.93 or the like.

However, I have a story from my days as a Piggly Wiggly cashier. If you don't know, Piggly Wiggly does Greenbax, which is a rewards program. If you buy certain items, it'll let you use Greenbax books stored on your PFC card (as you earn them by using your PFC card) and get it for free (just pay tax). (If you're wondering why the unit is a book, it's because back in the old days customers literally filled books with Greenbax stamps they got at the store, then brought them in. They're still valid, too.)

One night, our coach's wife came through my line, so I was ringing things up. I hit the total button, and the Greenbax dialog came up. Her balance at the time, I kid you not, was 12.93 books.

It's kinda hard to find things of my team number (11) but i do notice other teams like every time i look at my watch it seems to be a team number. If i'm driving down the interstate and notice it's a FIRST team I smile.

Being on a FIRST team was the greatest four years of my life. So great in fact that I now volunteer so others can make FIRST the greatest four years of their life.

PS This was my 233rd post...go PINK

There have been many days where the last time I've checked the clock it was either 2:54am or 2:58am. I've also had the misfortune of paying at least $2.58 per gallon of gas (the cheap stuff) VERY often. That's one of the few drawbacks of living in California... we get screwed on gas and utilities.

Jeremiah Johnson 26-04-2005 17:40

That reminds me. I always look at the clock everyday at 6:48. Also, our old number, 309, just happens to be our area code! It's too bad we dont have that number anymore. Everytime I do a math problem I try and think of the team that that answer is.

One Saturday during build season, a couple of members from our robotics team went out to Friendlies for lunch. Someone's bill came out to be $14.03. Coincidence, I think not...

Also, the locker adjacent to our Industrial Arts room is locker number 1403.

My team number isn't easy to find(1629), but I admit I've jumped the few times I've seen it...

I have seen other teams' numbers and automatically said the name. A month ago or so someone asked me how many days there were in a year, and I said MOE...I've seen several gas station signs saying the price of gas was $2.22(go Tigertrons!)...and in military time, 4:29 is our time...

In a bizarro moment, I was thinking about the same thing today! And it's rather funny because I gave a small presentation to my department on what we did over the weekend and I was talking about team numbers (they asked what 1089 meant), and another teacher that came with me found it hilarious that I saw 254 on a street mailbox sign and immediately thought Cheesy Poofs.

The most bizarre moment for me, though, was buying something I wanted from target having a price tagl of 10.89

I have started seeing team numbers everywhere lately. Mostly in questions in Chemistry and Math Analysis. Since we started getting ready for Atlanta and doing more scouting (learning more team names and numbers in the process) I catch myself trying to associate the time with teams.

Plus my alarm clock is set for 6:16 - it makes me a little happier to wake up early.

We are always in a team meeting at 3:41 so that is cool. But on the way down to the philly regional we pass exit 341. And on rare occasions during the daily run to wawa during build season we have totals that come to 3.41 which is awesome!

i see 233 on a regular basis... for gas prices. >.< its amusing to see but it does hurt my wallet when i've got to go to the pump. and i too have been associating team numbers with time and money and such... the price for a bottle of Bawls at the 7-11 near my house is $1.79, so natually i figured "hey look! Children of the Swamp!" and i got mad at a friend of mine who started to take the price tag off. lol i did the "there are MOE days in a year" thing too a few days ago... ^^;

edit/ last year, my locker number was 233... ^_^ my goal is every year to get a locker number associated with a FIRST team... :)

I work as a cashier in a grocery store so when the final total comes up I always think ok whos number is this, I have now made it into a little game I play. One time I was checking this lady out and my team number popped up and I said Yes Team Fusion baby, the lady kinda looked at me wierd so now i say the team name in my head when the number comes up.

Ha, yesterday I went to Taco Bell with some friends, and our total was $12.59 (my brother's team!) ... later, I was looking at gas prices and noticed it dropped to $2.34 to $2.29 ... and a girl down the hall mentioned she was moving to room #365 next semester.

Its almost the only thing where numbers have any significance, so I just see the teams numbers when reading books, when looking at the time, when seeing measurements, you name a place you see a number and I've thought of a team there :o.

I work at a dollar tree, so when someone buys 3 items the total comes to 3.21 (7% sales tax) so when someone pays with 4 dollars (or more commonly a 5 dollar bill,) my register shows the change as .79 or 1.79 both make me smile.

For us I hope to never see gas prices go up to $3.30!!! even though its about $3.07 here now..(yes thats ridiculous)....
Ummmm....
My friend on the team got order #330 at McDonald's right after a pre-season scrimmage...
At the beginning or my friends rookie year on the team he kept mistaking our team number 330 for 303.... this happened many times though the season, so we decided to make him remember our team name by force :D ...
anytime he said 303 in stead of 330 all the students walked over and gave him a light punch on the same arm....
So after a few weeks we here him so "Well its 3:03" and all of the sudden everyone walks over and hits him and he goes "OWWW I WAS READING THE TIME!!!" then everyone just starts busting up laughing..(Of course not him though) ...
ahhh good times goooood times

I think it is awesome to see team numbers in ordinary places. One of our mentors, Mr.Scherman, saw a propane tank (I think that's what it was) that had the number 1108 on it, so he took like five pictures. I don't happen to have them on my computer right now, so I can't post them. It is also funny when when it gets to be 11:08, I'll say something like, "Oh yeah, it's 11:08, that is so awesome!", and all the non-FIRSTers around me think I'm crazy. I love it.

At champs there was an upscale hotel that we would always walk by. It had large text, "One-Ninety-One Peachtree Avenue" engraved in metal.

On my satellite T.V., G4 TechTv is 191, and an address by me is 494. Premium gas at a gas station was 2.45. That and today on the way home from my grandmother's i was looking for licenses plates with team numbers. I saw three that had 67 on them. My soccer number is 33.

Let's see...

When Team 1100 went to the Hartford Regional, I had the interesting luck of being placed in room #811 in the hotel. This was the team I'd been with prior to 1100. The faculty advisor swears he didn't do it on purpose.

Yeah, right.

On the door to our normal meeting place, there is a city ordinance posted: city Ordinance 217...weird...

Also, one of the conference rooms at our place is room 2117, not our team exactly, but pretty close.

I live in a neighborhood with crazy numbers lol.

-168th street is like the police department and close by to my school
-there's like 173rd, 175th, and 180th streets and the street i live on is 179th! (maybe i should name them "Rage street" "buzz street" "spam street" but what about 179th street lol "swamp street" or something else)
-I saw a gas station with the price for regular gas at 2.33
-some of my cousin's liscense plates have 47 and 71 in them!
-um in bowling I bowled a 168, 111, 147, 173 (yea strange!)
-my prom ticket was 114 O_O and my waiting ticket to get that prom ticket was number 20

Ive been seeing the number 111 a lot recently... a friend's apartment number, lots of stuff. A flight a friend was on... oooh and a bus number. There are others.. I should start writing them down. Its probably a conspiracy.. those Wildstang guys are up to something...

License plates (unless vanity plates) for cars are 1 digit followed by 3 letters followed by 3 numbers in CA. I've seen a few 599's, including one that parks in the same lot on the college campus as myself. I've also noticed a 696 around.

1070 is also one of the major talk radio stations in the area. (I figure I can always cheat and use the initial digit on license plates, although the 1's were given out to cars back in the 80's.)

Me and some the other people who have been on our team for a while always notice when its 5:14 at night. One morning a few days before we were leaving for atlanta when my friend called me just to tell me that it was 51.4 degrees outside. I think the weirdest time I've seen our team number randomly was in the airport while we were waiting for our flight to atlanta. Everyone on our team was like hanging in one corner area and on an information board on the wall was a sticker that said 514...we all thought it was pretty cool.

Every year on our way to the Philly Regional we pass EXIT 341 on the expressway. its the last exit before getting off for Drexel U. Everyone on the bus lets out a cheer. The best part is that we are local, so we get to do it for all three days of the comp. :D

I see a lot of 254's these days.

When I am converting centimeters to inches or visa versa, it is 2.54. Yeah it does have the decimal, but I always say to myself in my mind, "The Cheeeesssy Poooofs" in that authentic announcer voice. I really liked their robot this year. It was very effective. Go guys!
