I'd say 229's bot looks sweeter, but......

Paul Copioli would soundly kick JVN's butt in a beauty contest any day of the week.

I propose with the magic of Photoshop, we test this theory out some day.

Thunderchickens all the way, I like the bold colors that they use. You will not miss them in a crowd. Both great looking and operating robots.

One more thought here. The last time I saw 217 was on Einstein. 229 was in the crate where the light isn't as good. Maybe I voted for the wrong one based on lighting ... hmmmmm ...... :D

i think that 217's division championship and regional championship would also make them a "tough competitor". just my opinion (also, Thor has Ratpack paint on the green peice of the four-bar)

217, for the sole reason that I kinda have to strain my eyes to see the 229 on the green in that picture.

That, and everyone knows that to have gold on a FIRST robot these days, it must be BLINGIN' gold. Matte finishes don't cut it anymore, folks. Know that.

i love the clean look of the 217 machine. it looks very minimalistic, very elegant. plus i'm a sucker for sheet metal work, and that thunder chicken frame is beautiful.

I've been told, that beauty is in the eye of the beholder...
Maybe that is why I am partial to Clarkson's green and gold, as worn proudly by Denominator. ;)
Though there is also something to be said for that brushed aluminum look on Thor.

On 229, we tried to take the extra time this year, and go the extra mile to make our robot look professional, and present a positive image. In the past, we have had the "lexan and aluminum" look, which is very nice, but we decided to strive for something more this season. I am happy with the result, and we were glad to field a robot that both our students and our sponsor (Clarkson University) can be proud of. It is amazing what a little love, and a little spraypaint can accomplish.

I think I speak for both teams when I say how incredibly happy I am with this season's collaboration, and the quality of these two amazing machines. As I type this, the vote is 48-47; the fact that this vote is so close speaks volumes about how each of these robots is truly beautiful, while each still being unique.

The accomplishments of each team, while still belonging to that team, bring pride to BOTH teams.
I am as proud of 217's two gold medals, as I am of 229's two silver medals.


Thanks to everyone for their kind words about these two works of art,

PS - As far as the "Paul vs. John" debates... he is way prettier than me. I can't even begin to compete.

217, , you guys ROCK! ... like i mean dam. .and your robot is sexy.. but i love the other ones paintjob better..
