AP Tests Loom
I take one last swig of a can of gingerale as I step away from the keyboard, do my hair, and head over to the testing grounds for my AP Calc Test. AP Physics still looms a week away.
Who else out there in FIRST is working their butts off to past the AP's? Who else needs help studying for an AP? Post it here. |
Re: AP Tests Loom
Well I took AP Language & Composition yesterday, it was decent.
Tomorrow is AP Statistics, friday is AP United States History and Monday is AP Physics B. Working my butt off? No, not really, studied a little for stats, and I'm gonna study this weekend for physics. |
Re: AP Tests Loom
Yep, AP Calc BC today, in an hour and a half actually. Then three more IB tests over the next two weeks.
|
Re: AP Tests Loom
I sit here in school as my friends take the AP Calc exam (got out of that one, only took honors). I have my AP Literature exam thursday, and my AP Biology exam monday....and I have prom friday. Great planning on the prom committee's part, an AP exams the monday after prom weekend.:ahh:
|
Re: AP Tests Loom
I just finished with the AP Calculus test about 45 minutes ago, tomorrow I have AP Computer Science (only one in my school taking it), and next week I take AP Chemistry on tuesday and AP US Govt & Politics wednesday.
|
Re: AP Tests Loom
I took AP Physics this year just because I like physics. I'm taking the test next week but I'm not going to kill myself over it.
If I wanted college credit for physics I would have taken a community college class. It's much easier that way. :) |
Re: AP Tests Loom
One test down. The AP Calc was easy save one question, so I'm not worried at all.
Now I only need to get AP Physics out of the way. But man... over four hours of just sitting there... Now that was killer. |
Re: AP Tests Loom
AP Chem next Tuesday, and seeing how it's the only AP offered for sophomores at my school, it's all I've got. Unfortunately, our AP Chem teacher has a bad record for his students' performance on the AP...two fives in twelve years or something like that. My friend's sister took 8 AP exams during her high school career and got 5s on all of them except for chem...so I'm a little worried.
|
Re: AP Tests Loom
In our school, you can not get into the AP's until Junior year. The few available then are; US history, Bio, Chem, Comp/Sci, and Statistics.
I'm taking History and Stats this year, have yet to study...woops. Next year though, im upping my load to 5; Psych, Physics, Calc, Poli Sci, and another science or Social Studies(can not remember which one i selected.) I'm definitely not going to kill myself over this, i just wanna take it easy and see what i get, doesnt matter what. I figure if i do bad, i can just take the class in college if i wanted to. |

Re: AP Tests Loom
no aps for me this year but plenty of IB

Re: AP Tests Loom
What's IB? I keep hearing people talking about it but I've never seen it.
And Comp Sci? I took it. Interesting, but strange in a way. The choose to teach Java instead of C++, which is good as Java is cross-OS, but it tends to be used more for web applications- yet you never use it for a web application in the class. |
Re: AP Tests Loom
unfortunatly, i have AP comp/sci tomorrow. version A. and to all those who know what im talking about, i just wanna kill those stupid fish. exspecially those darter fish, they are harder to catch.
|
Re: AP Tests Loom
Last year I created at least 30 kinds of fish. I loved my P.I.M.P. fish, who would hunt down lady fish. Whenever they mated and had kids, the program would play a Barry White mp3.
Needless to say, I recieved tons of extra credit for that one. |
Re: AP Tests Loom
I have my AP US History Exam this Friday... and I am nervous.
Probably the main reason for this is that I didn't even realize that it was this week until my history teacher started talking about to our class this morning and yelling at the class because not a single person has handed in the $82 check to our guidance counselor! I personally find the $82 charge a tad bit high for a standardized test, but I suppose the end result is worth the money (that is, if [1] I score high enough to get credit and [2] go to a school that will accept the credit). I am also feeling somewhat unprepared because my US History class isn't technically an AP class. But since it is an honors/humanities level class, we are given the option of taking the test (which most of the class, at least this year, has chosen to do). Luckily, our history department has put together a series of review sessions for the test after school as kind of a refresher course. Unfortunately, I had to miss one because of Atlanta, and I am missing today's because of a robotics meeting. Hopefully I will be able to catch the last session, which is tomorrow. Is anyone taking both the May 7th SAT this weekend and the AP US History Exam? I am not (I take the SAT in June), but many of the students in my history class are. Talk about standardized test stress! Good luck to all who are taking AP tests! (...I need some luck myself I think) |
Re: AP Tests Loom
Calc AB is out of the way now, and it wasn't too terrible. I left a few blank, including parts of free response questions, but I'm hoping I did well enough to get some credit from UMich.
English Lit is Thursday morning, and I'm not worried about that one at all. Really, what can you do to prepare for that one beyond knowing the novels you've read and being prepared to write about them? Physics C, though, could be nasty. My class hasn't gone over the electrical areas of the test AT ALL, and I'm not quite confident about the mechanical section either. Even after two years, I still have issues with tension, but that's probably due to my stupidity more than anything else. Best of luck to everyone who's taking APs, even though you probably won't need it. Us robotics kids are smart cookies. :) |
Re: AP Tests Loom
My teacher is infamous for being impossibly hard and moving darned fast.
Which is why we know every little nook and cranny of that test. If you don't know electrical by now, I wish you luck. It will be next to impossible to get a high grade without it. If I were you, I'd do nothing but study until the test. Sorry for the bad, ominous news. |
Re: AP Tests Loom
Well here's a more enlightening view. I never had Calculus in high school but now that I have it in college I think it is pretty easy for the most part. It is just limits, derivatives and antiderivatives. For limits, there are only a few rules for evaluating them. You just need to see if this goes up to infiniti, then does that go too or does it go down to zero or some other number or what? For derivatives you just multiply the coefficient by the exponent and subract one from the exponent. For antiderivatives, it is just where derivatives come from. So you add one to the exponent and divide the coefficient by the exponent. I would mention integrals but that is pretty much just more antiderivatives. So, BAM! There you have it, Calculus. Easy. :)

Re: AP Tests Loom
I'm taking AP Spanish Language tomorrow, and AP English Lit on Thursday. Whatever happens, happens, I'm just dying to be done and graduate!! :ahh:

I took World History today, and whoo did it throw me for a loop. I think the multiple choice was so simple that the questions were all stuff that went under my radar. Still, my first two essays felt very solid, so hopefully I can still get a 4 or 5. Actually, my third essay was about 50% made up . Supposedly almost everyone gets 4's or 5's after this class, so... Stats tomorrow, Bio Monday. :( |

The IBO's program is very ironic, in my opinion, because it requires volunteer hours (when you require it its not really volunteering....). I'm not a big fan of it because, aside from the things I've heard from my friends' parents, its been pushed too hard in our school and we dont even have a very good langauge program (one of IB's focuses is internationalism and thus language), having only 3 different, western languages at present. |

I took AP Bio last year (as a sophmore), 'twas intense, but I really enjoyed it and did well on the test. AP US and AP Phsyics B await me yet. I am looking forwards to see what topic the DBQ is, but I fear that I might be getting the five I want...AP US is notorious in these parts for tacking a 3 or 4 onto your grade sheet. Next year I'm looking forwards to, hrm, AP English, AP Calc II, AP Stat, AP Econ, AP Psych (as long as I study up over the summer), AP Comparative Gov (again, studying outside of school witha friend for this one), and AP Music Theory. Oh, AP spanish might happen, depends on my time commitments, but it'd seem a waste to nix it after 5 years of study already. I can already hear my desk breaking under the weight of the books I'm going to need for those classes  . |

you have to test out in math, science of some sort, English, a foreign language, and 6th subject (can be like art, computer science, anthropology, etc.) and you do cas--which is creativity, action and service service is u'r volunteering action basically yeah working out, running around...getting exercise creativity..yeah...using other side of u'r brain each school has a different program but guide lines are the same...test out in may for each subject with different amount of tests aka papers and you have to write certain things or do certain things for each class...internal and external assessments....internal while in class...external end of the year tests... hope that helps a bit....it's all around... go IB!!! either love it or hate it basically...some say it's like ap..tad different tad the same..lol getting the diploma yes can allow you to go out of like the us for school since its a recognized standard diploma for the world rather than a normal us high school diploma it helps for us in Florida if we get our diploma full bright futures scholorship money if we don't already qualify for it and like ap can get you out of a few classes if you score high enough... 4 is passing 7 is the highest... and i'm almost out of it lol...few more tests to go and i'm done...i hope i get my diploma :) pray that i do for me if your in IB i feel u'r pain.... |
Re: AP Tests Loom
For all of you on the east coast talking about how fast your class goes, keep this in mind: My school did not start until September 7th. So yeah, we go at a desperate pace all year.

Re: AP Tests Loom
-prays for Tiffany and other IB students- i keep hearing from the IB Juniors and Seniors about how apprehensive they are about their exams coming up... luckily i'm not a junior or a senior yet, so no IB exams for me, but i do have AP Government and Politics coming up next week, along with AP Macroeconomics. I'm not that worried about Gov't, i just need to refresh my memory since i took that class back in '04... we actually ended up skipping an entire unit on Public Policy because of the hurricanes, but other than just having to learn a few new things this week, i think i'll be okay.. i'm a little more worried about Macro. its my first period class, and due to robotics and various other things that have come up (like SHARP interviews and doctor appointments), i've missed a lot in that class, so i've got quite a bit of catching up to do in the next... 9 days or so. (yay for Princeton Reviews though! ... thats what i'll be trying to memorize in the next few days..)
ooo.. i also heard that same thing about the AP Language exam... the people i talked to who took it said it was easy, but in a completely different format than how they had practiced. i guess maybe this year the College Board decided to change things? i guess i'm kinda lucky at my school... seniors graduate in about a week or two, and my last day is May 24. but then again, my school year starts in early August, so that sorta gives us a somewhat headstart in studying... however trying to make up lost time because of hurricanes every other weekend isnt easy.. especially when the make-up days end up in the wrong semesters >.< good luck on all of your upcoming tests (AP or IB or even just normal exams) everyone! |
Re: AP Tests Loom
took english monday (alright give or take an essay and a few MC), took calc today (good except i ran out of time and i KNOW i got a few MC wrong). taking ush friday, sat2s (chem and phys) saturday, physics monday, chem tuesday, microeco thursday and env sci the next wednesday and right after that i'm starting my finals and then i finish off with the sat exam in june.
yea it's a bit hectic. nervous? no. i don't believe in being nervous. you go, you take the test and you come out. you can't change your performance. but for now i'm going to *start* to study for ush and finish my sat2/ap prep for phys and chem. i don't care about micro or env sci. besides, i'll have a whole week to study for env sci. but next year'll be better, i'll be taking easier aps and have better teachers =) good luck everyone. godspeed. |
Re: AP Tests Loom
Good luck to everyone.
I had Calc BC today and I have Comp Sci AB and Statistics tomorrow... and then I'm doooone! Just in time for Thursday, which is Senior skip day: FIVE-FIVE-OH-FIVE :) |
Re: AP Tests Loom

The Calc BC test wasn't horribly bad, I'm fairly sure I got a 5 on the AB subsection to get out of Math 1A in college, hopefully a 5 on the whole thing to get out of Math 1B, but I'd say that's borderline. Good luck to everyone else on all of their tests! |

AP Calc today left me with a headache...I really like how College Board managed to find every subject I didn't like this year and put it in the free response :P
Anyhow, I get a break tomorrow, then AP English, AP Chem, Government, and Economics. Shaping up to be a fun 2 weeks. |
Re: AP Tests Loom
now I'm only taking the AP English Lit & Comp. exam. I also believe that it's the only AP course that was offered this year, except for calc, which I didn't have enough math for yet. I believe my school only ever has offered 4 different AP classes...I really wish we would have more
|
Re: AP Tests Loom
I took the AP World History Exam today. It was alright, not too hard, but just enough that Im not positive enough to keep me edgy about my score. Im confident I passed, but what my score is yet to be determined. The third essay threw me a bit off.
Glad thats my only AP this year. Another 116er is also sad that hes got his English AP on 5-5-05, so he misses senior skip day. Hmm, I wonder what my class' (clas of 2007) skip day is, since we're not in school at 7-7-07. I wander what class of 2000s was also.... |

Re: AP Tests Loom
AP chem next tuesday.
As many of you can probably agree with...i'll get my life back after then. |
Re: AP Tests Loom
I took the AP Lang. Comp on Monday, and AP Stats yesterday. Neither were as bad as I thought they were going to be, but that's not really saying much. Still pretty difficult.
Monday is Physics C. We're only taking the Mechanics portion of it, thank God. Our teacher realized that we would probably need two years to cover the Mechanics and Electric portions... and we had one. Good luck to all. |
