Video of 2005 National Closing Ceremony

Does anybody have a video of the closing ceremony from Nationals?

I will "pay dearly" to get ahold of a DVD or tape. Our team won the National Rookie All-Star, but we were pretty far away from the screen, etc.

I REALLY need this to put into our highlights DVD for next weeks pep-rally meeting.....

I was able to get a video clip of the closing ceremony from NASA. They DVR'd the whole thing. They can "possibly" take a few special requests, but all the actual matches were tapes by MOE. I talked to Michael Downs at NASA and got a file of our team winning the national rookie all-star. If you reaslly need something, contact him at (downs@titan.ksc.nasa.gov). Also, tapes/DVDs are available from FIRST I believe.

I think you mean Team 108-The sigmacats.

And Im 100% sure FIRST has no video available for teams. Any taping of events that occurred was either done by NASA, or a joint effort between them and Team 108.

You can find this video at www.soap108.com or robotics.nasa.gov

Cory,
you're correct. The matches at Nationals were recorded by team 108 and are available for download as WMV files at their web site (www.soap108.com). You can get converter software for WMV files at shareware places such as www.download.com if your video editing software can't import WMV format files.

I don't know about all the nationals, but the closing ceremony is indeed available from the subcontractor to FIRST at:

Regarding the video tape of the Championship closing ceremony. . . you can purchase a copy of the closing ceremony from our video vendor. You will have to get a quote directly from Bryant, they do accept credit cards.
Their address is:

That's interesting. I don't believe FIRST has ever done that before. You'd think they would have publicized it as I'm sure you aren't the only ones that would like a copy.

Why is it that I can't find any closing ceremony material on SOAP108? Or have I just totally overlooked something?

Wait, you can?! I thought that almost every program that supported that got lawsuited by Microsoft and the only tutorial I could find to do it online made you go through seperate steps to extract audio and video.

Obviously I was looking on the wrong parts of the internet...

The free ones aren't available any more - but you can get shareware versions. Sometimes the shareware limits the speed at which you can decode/encode, the length of the clip you can edit, or a time limit on the time you can have the program installed. There are plenty of pay versions of WMV converters - but being a poor college student, I rule those options out right away.

The most popular way of getting high quality WMV rips is as you described - splicing the audio and video separately using individual decoders for each stream. It isn't fun, but it is the cheapest way to play with WMV files. I haven't done it, but if you are a code monkey, you can write some simple scripts to automate everything for you and let your computer chew on a video file over night. But I have no idea how to do that. :(

That's all the video they have from einstein uploaded right now (that I found). I'll see if they have any more that wasn't uploaded.

Try browsing through http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2005/movies/

Re: Video of 2005 National Closing Ceremony

More on video in general and closing ceremonies.

1) Yes, the CircuitRunners only recorded the actual matches, not the ceremonies.
2) FIRST does have a firm that can sell the video of the ceremonies, etc. There's a separate thread on that subject (same folder)
3) The folks from NASA were kind enough to send me a WMV file of our team winning the National Rookie All-Star award, since I was seated in the "nose bleed" seats and didn't have the foggiest notion that we would win (still high from all that!)

4) Now, if somebody has a video segment that they need converted to some other format (WMV to AVI or MPEG, etc) I did buy some good conversion s/w and would be willing to do that as a service free if needed; just e-mail me...you'd have to do this via a disk in snail-mail.

5) Now, a workaround. Most video editors can't import WMV files. But Microsoft has a free program called MovieMaker (downloadable) that runs under Win-XP. One of the options in MovieMaker is the ability to "export" the project back to your camcorder. So, you can import a WMV file, export it to your camcorder, and then re-import it into your own favorite editor s/w as a MPEG or AVI.
