2005 International Science and Engineering Fair

So, it comes time (about 2 days to go in fact) for many happy science project winners to go on to International Science Fair in Phoenix, AZ.

Who are the robotics kids who are coming, or alumni, that want to share an experience or something random, or even have a robotics frolic on site?

Re: 2005 International Science and Engineering Fair

My Freshman and Sophomore years when I lived in Oklahoma I was active in ISEF. This was before I knew FIRST even existed. Although I've never made it to the (inter)national level, both years I had the opportunity to compete at the state level. Both years my school received the award for having the most students in attendance and best placement overall. I was also involved in the Oklahoma Junior Academy of Science which is the same project but instead of the backboard, one does a stand up presentation. I am a "If I'm gonna go, go all out" kinda guy, and I can't imagine personally having time for both Science Fair and FIRST. I've learned many of the skills I use in FIRST from ISEF and OJAS. Although in my opinion there is enough room for FIRST and ISEF in one school, they are pretty different. I prefer the feeling of being on a team instead of doing a flying project solo.

As I've said before, I'm working on bringing FIRST back home.

Team 842, Carl Hayden High School, will be there Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We will "be on display" with our robot and ROV.

when i was in high school science fairs were something i always did well...in 2001 i won 4th place at the ISEF for engineering. that was when it was in San Jose California. I remember it being so cool seeing all those projects and the sites of the area ( i took tours of all the silicon valley companies). In alot of ways it was just like a FIRST competition; meeting people from all over the world with a common interest, trading pins, and giving that good feeling of knowing what you learned in school actually pays off.

Re: 2005 International Science and Engineering Fair

Hey guys it's that time of the year again, so I thought I'd revive this in hopes of finding more Robotics kids to talk to...

This year's ISEF is in Indianapolis, IN, about 1 hour from my hometown. For any of you Indy kids who would like to come see it, the public preview day is Thursday and Friday, and I'll be at my project Thursday from about 10 AM to 2 PM. It's always great to find other robotics teams here, so if anybody knows of anybody on Chief or on a team who is competing this year I'd love to visit their project. :P I might just wander through the Engineering division with a team shirt to see if someone runs up to me like "OMG ROBOTICS".

Much love,
Genia
