Private VeX buyers
 

Anyone who has already bought a VeX kit just for themselves, if you only have one kit is it worth buying? In other words, if you can't compete with another VeX bot, is it still fun?

I'm considering buying a kit, but none of my friends have one, so still not sure.

I don't have one because for the money I think I'd rather get a real RC vehicle, like nitro powered that does 35 mph and can drive over rocks and take really big jumps. Don't get me wrong, Vex is cool and worth the price, but even though RCs aren't customizable out of the box like Vex, they are extremely capable out of the box which Vex isn't.

Vex will never take big jumps or go 35 mph. RC gives more speed for the dollar.

Vex wins as the better tool in an educational setting while I'd say RCs win as the better tool in a recreational setting.

Just wait until I get my hands on a vex kit ;).

RC cars are a lot of fun too, but nitro cars require a different knowledge base to build, tune, and maintain than VEX. The knowledge base required for the VEX kit is much more relateable to FIRST.

I have to take tkwetzel's side on with that one. Yah, sure Nitro RC cars are fast and cool, but can you put a grabber on them? Yes, technically you could, but it'd be a lot harder than doing it with a VeX kit.
