Re: Top 1,000 schools in the country.
Let's see, here are some NJ teams that made the 2006 list...
308 Montgomery Skillman N.J. (1403) 356 West Windsor-Plainsboro South Princeton Junction N.J. 471 West Windsor-Plainsboro North Plainsboro N.J. (i believe that one of these is 1923) 1145 Pascack Valley Hillsdale N.J. (1676) |

Re: Top 1,000 schools in the country.
i know its just based off of % AP but something still doesn't seem right, Brooklyn Tech team 334 is ranked 404 while neither Bronx Science team 1155 or Stuyvesant High team 694, the two schools ranked higher than Tech on the NYC magnet test, are on the list.

Re: Top 1,000 schools in the country.
Here's something to think about...
Lower Merion, the school that I and the rest of team 1712 goes to, has gone in the ranks from 121 in 2003, to not ranked in 2005, to 979 for 2006... Something's a little strange here... |
Re: Top 1,000 schools in the country.
Three schools from the district adjacent to mine, Bellevue district, are in the top 50 (Interlake (24), Newport (32) and Bellevue High (41)). This is because that district requires all students take one or more AP tests at some point during high school. It does not require them to pass the test, just to take them. This system means even those at the bottom of the student population, the people who really struggle, and probably don't have a hope in college still must take an AP test. Although for some it is a joke, as they are certain to fail, that district still requires them to sign up. This type of student may be better served by not taking an AP class, and instead taking a normal class where they won't give up from the beginning, because they still have a chance to do well. Basically, the school district invoked this program to look better on surveys like this one, not for the good of the students. This is very poor leadership, and should get the superintendent fired. I think AP courses are great things, and I'm taking as many as I can throughout high school, but they are not for everyone.

Re: Top 1,000 schools in the country.
Analyzing the pitfalls of this survey would be a great AP Stats exercise (but I know it's not happening this year because you've all already taken the exam!)
