Yeah girls!
I love being on a team with more girls than boys. We really know how to get things done and that is how it should be.
Recently there was an article in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle about girls getting more into science and technology and the X-Cats were featured! X-Cats Rock the house!! |
We have 2 girls to about 15 guys, sometimes more guys.

female team members
Over the past several years team #47 has had more female members than males.
2001 there were 20 female and 8 male team members 2002 there are 14 female and 13 male team members This may be due in part to the high academic standards we have to become a FIRST team member. |
High academic standards?
I really hope that was a joke. It's kind of offensive to imply that guys can't reach the same levels of academic excellence that girls can. We may think differently, but that has no relevence on our ability to do well in school. In my graduating class, the top ten students were five girls and five guys (I was not one of them, sadly enough). Of course, if it was a joke, please excuse my rant.

Standards
Not to imply that guys are not as smart as girls.
What I really am saying is that there are many other choices for the male students that seem to attract them. Sports teams are a big attraction. Many times the girls do both sports and FIRST. The guys seem to focus on just one activity at a time. While the choices for sports are supposed to be equal they really are not, due to when the sport is offered. Add to that the responsibilities of an afterschool job and you reduced availability. Many male students choose - because of necessity - the job. Overall, less male students apply to the team than female students. It has been that way for the past 7 years. |
Ahh
Thank you, Mike, for clarifying your point. I didn't know that more girls applied than guys.
Members of my team of both sexes compete in both FIRST and other sports, so I've never seen it as a problem. |
Lucky you! ;-)

I guess I'll try to work on that next year, to get more girls involved I mean... |
We have 7 guys and 5 girls. In the past, the ratio has been a lot more weighted towards guys, but this year, it's close to equal. Even in the beginning of this year we had more guys, but we lost a few members for various reasons, and more of them were guys than girls.

girl power!....erm...i didnt just say that
we have about 40 people on our team and girls include me, Kim Ehret, Michelle DeCarlo, and Nicole Kessler. 9 guys for every girl...not bad at all... ;)
|
what are you talking about 40!! we have like 15 members at most....
|
Rage has 4 girls and about 20 or so guys on the team. Two of them are seniors so we may only have two girls on the team next year but we will probably gain some incoming freshman girls next year
|
Lets see.....Jenn ( Our human player ), Steph ( Wheel Piviot and arm Operator ) Susan, Sarah, Krista. That's 5....I think I'm fogeting someone. Aww heck....just go to www.dabears247.net and click the bear on the bottom, from there...click "team".....I'm Dan....the ugly animator!
|
blah blah blah
shush, no one asked you, weenie (nataku)! about 40 people are getting credit for being in the club, even though 13 people went to florida, and only 8 people were completely devoted to building the robot. 3 of the 13 in Florida were girls, but for the most part, i was usually the only girl around.
|
Nobody went to Flordia from 'da bears. We couldn't afford it. Those pictures are our travel team, and sadly some of those people don't deserve to be on it. Other than those people...there are about 40 more kids that are just taking FIRST as a blowoff class at our school, even though it's anything but a blowoff class.
