PC versus Console

Disclaimer : Didn't find a thread on this. Feel free to slap me if there is one

So , which is better?
Pc or Console?

I say PC because they can be upgraded to keep up with stuff and are useful for many more applications, such as writing documents etc. Also, you are thus not limited by the hardware and you can tweak things and make your pc even better.
Also you can't look at this unless you havea PC
(or unless your mad : eg Here or Here ;) )
Debate . and vote

Better for what? Assuming gaming... I'm still going to have to go with PC. :)

Denman 17-05-2005 07:32

Generally, not just for gaming, but you can't really do much except gaming on a console :P

Re: PC versus Console

Consoles because every game runs the same on them - developers don't have to worry about different specs. Plus I hate using mouse/keyboard.

gee, i wonder where this spun off of?

PC's all the way, they never go out of date, and consoles are being designed to be like Computers more and more now a days, ever hear of an Xbox Mod chip?

Re: PC versus Console

Gameplay is usally better on a counsel and it is eaiser to hook it up to surround sound and big screen. PC has more controller options (joystick, throttle, keyBORED, playstation style, and more) and is far more upgradeable but a desktop computer w/ moniter is a little cumbersome to transport.

Re: PC versus Console

consoles are definitely way better for high-end gaming

PCs are better overall because of all you can do with them, and they are also better for low-budget gaming. you won't find open-source games for consoles - updates just dont really work... yet. and URC will be PC-only ;)

What makes you say that? While consoles are just now being able to output to 1080p at a whopping 25fps or whatever that spec is, computers have been able to nearly double that. Lots of games are easily playable on a computer at 1600x1200 or higher. Also, can consoles do either AA or AF? To be honest, the biggest setback to a console, IMO, is the TV. With surround sound on my computer superior to most basic home theaters, a widescreen 23" LCD, top of the line graphics card, and a nice KB/mouse, I'd totally give the high-end gaming award to the PC.

Too bad the XBOX 360 isn't out yet our everyone's opinion might be different.
XBOX 360 - customizable, TV, internet, music, & more! (movie).

I love my PS2 and like to save the PC for online surfing. You should've added handhelds as well. I love my PSP as well.

For the moment, PCs are better. When the XBox 360 comes out, it'll definitely be consoles hands down.

Halo 2.5 Tournies at the regionals, anyone?

Re: PC versus Console

Halo 2 on a computer? Didn't think so, therefore Console > Computer.

And by the time that comes out, computers will be significantly more powerful.

I don't think a console system will ever be the equal of a top of the line computer.

I prefer the mouse and keyboard combination for many games, such as FPS. It's completely not intuitive for me to use a gamepad.

Doom 3
Rome Total War
The Sims (2)

and a bunch more that anyone can make

I would like to see anybody play a FPS on a console against someone playing on a computer. FPS is my game of choice and there is no way a console will ever satisfy my need for fast paced, responsive shooting.

mike... its coming out soon on PC kthx... so you lose...

and gaming *minus sports and racing* PC > consoles...

i speak what truth is...

*edit the only FPS's that were good on consoles were the ORIGINAL Goldeneye for the N64 and PerfectDark!!!

I think a mouse is harder to use than a gamepad, but that's just my opinion. ;)

I guess you've never played Halo, or Halo 2? What about The World is Not Enough, it wasn't 'amazing' but it certainly was good. :)

And for the record I think Perfect Dark was really, really bad.

Number one Halo for PC was absolutely horrible. Number two Half life 2 is coming out for xbox 360. Third just modify the xbox 360 if it goes out of date. Simple if you know what you are doing. :)

Re: PC versus Console

I personally like Console Better. I am more of a sports person and well, madden on computer cant touch Madden on PS2. And even then, XBOX are moddable. My friend has lik a 120 GB hard drive on there but he can't play on XBOX live with that but he can still do XP connect.

He has it where he can just copy his games onto his hard drive and we always put DVD's on there to watch wherever we go. Even though I am not a big fan of Halo, 8 v 8 is always fun with all the chaos going on and the random screaming.

Im wondering what the differences between Madden on the PC, and on PS2 are? (I've never played on PS2) but I play Madden on my computer all the time, and as long as you have a gamepad, I imagine it's every bit the equal of any console version, but with better graphics.

Search for a download of the E3 trailer of KILLZONE for the PS3... The graphics, physics, and mind-blowing detail rendering in REALTIME is enough for me to want to get a PS3. It makes XBOX360 graphics look like a joke and certainly rivals the visuals of movies like Final Fantasy.

Re: PC versus Console

I'm still sticking with consoles for games.

And about current videos from the xbox360:

http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/8296/Xbox-360-More-Power/

Quote:

Of the recent Xbox 360 gameplay footage we’ve seen so far, the one major concern has been that of the sometime sluggish framerate. In a recent discussion with a number of Microsoft executives, we managed to learn that all current Xbox 360 games that were shown at last night’s E3 press briefing are still running on alpha development kits that are not a true representation of what we can expect when the console launches this holiday season. Estimations are that the current kits are running at only 25-40% of the maximum power that the Xbox 360 will possess. Beta kits are scheduled to hit developers within the next 2 months and final hardware should arrive in early July.

I think it will not. From the stats I've seen about the Xbox 360, its graphics are still outclassed by PC components. My almost 2 year old Radeon 9800 pro 128 mb(overclocked) can still put out 75% of the power as the xbox 360(when not overclocked). Now video cards are near twice if not nearing 3 times as good as mine(which makes me sad) which is more then enough to outclass an Xbox 360. The graphics capable on the Xbox 360 are no where near as "cutting edge" as if they had appeared on a computer screen. A game available on both will always look better on a capable computer.

1. Its because to be a good pc shooter, there is a much higher standard that you must achieve. Halo was just too slow for my tastes so I stayed with my favorite, UT2004. 2. Half life 2 will be no where near the same as it was for the pc. 3. Now who's to say microsoft will be friendly to people that try to modify their product. Maybe they will sell modifications themselves at outrageous prices(sounds like windows).

1. FPS's on consoles stink *yay for no swearing*...

Too true, but it is the only way they can make those games playable when they use such inferior equipment.

i really don't care if you will sit there and bash us console people about are games supposedly being auto aim FPS's ( maybe goldeneye but how long go was that)I play both PC and xbox so I really am not biased at all. I know halo isn't otherwise I wouldn't play it. By the way has any of you heard of a little clan called {SAS}.

{SAS} strategic assualt specialists. though you probably don't play or didn't play enough true combat or CS. We have been going since the 90's and we are a well established and respected clan. If you haven't heard of us then I am very surprised. you willhave to play a game with YYZ and BB sometime.

1. You have no basis for that statement.
2. In your opinion. I feel more at home with a gamepad.
3. Most mods aren't good. Of course every once in a while you get a good one, but I don't think you're really missing out on that much.
4. Last time I checked there is no auto aim on any FPS anymore.

:unimpressed: :ahh:

I'm actually a War Arranger for a multigaming clan ( Grossdachshund Division). playing CoD, Suddenstrike 2, and anythign ww2. We play for fun and not competition though, its much nicer that way :p

wilshire 22-05-2005 17:08

Re: PC versus Console

yeah ours is a multigaming clan too. We however play mostly strategical based games. here has been talk about starting up a division for swat and I know our newest division is for Guild Wars which I still have yet to play. But I am the division leader for Halo 2 and the captain of our Halo CAL team. Your clan should really think about getting into some leagues like CAL, TWL, or even team compete if they support the games you guys are playing. I know thereis alot more leagues out there but I can only remember so many. Anyways I'll have to check you guys out some time.

You play CAL? DeSeCrAtE (now known as Teamclutch) is from my high school. I play with them every once in a while. Add me to your friendlist, we'll play sometime (Gamertag: MikeWasHere05)

PS: As much as I love Halo, it does have auto-aim. Why do you think everyone's favorite weapon is the battle rifle?
EDIT: Teamclutch CAL link: http://caleague.com/?page=teams&teamid=41363
What's your team's name? SAS isn't listed in Main or Open =/

wilshire 22-05-2005 18:01

Re: PC versus Console

yeah we are listed as Strategical Assualt specialists under the open division because we were not able to sign up for the first season in time. Otherwise I would garuntee we would have ranked high enough to get into the main division. and the battlerifle does not have auto aim it just has lees recoil since bungie updated the game to make it "better than it was before" since hundreds of thousands of newbs didn't have the skill to wield it.
