Re: Whats Your Summer Job?

This is my 3rd Co-op at Drexel.

I am working for Johnson Matthey, Inc. in their precision coating devision. They coat catalytic converters (thing that cleans up the exhaust from your car's engine). I am a Project Engineering Co-op and I'm helping plan for a new automated line that won't get built until after I leave :( . Oh well.

As this is my last year of college - are there any professionals that want to hire me for a 'real' job? I graduate in June 2006 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering... though I will probably end up going for a MBA on top of that. Resume available upon request (PM or E-mail me).

I work at an apple orchard which is located across the road from my house. The work is demanding, but it is so convenient to walk to work!

I'm working in a bar, working a take out counter and working an ice cream counter this summer. Lots of fun, though sometimes I get confused with where I should be...

I have an internship at Johnson and Johnson Pharmeceutical Research and Development in their drug forumlation department. My work will probably deal with doing tests on the actually pills after the drug has been "invented" determining stuff like capsul hardness and rate of dissolution.

It should be nice, great experience and good money. They even have an employee gym and running track for lunch breaks.

R&H Manufacturing

Monday through Thursday 3:30pm to 2:00am. :ahh:

Yes, thats right 2nd shift, but its not really that bad.

Well, the only time it was really bad was on my way home in the middle of the morning and my engine decided to bite the dust...

At least I get a three day weekend. ;)

Basically the company makes piping connectors and many many hydraulic parts for the Raymond Fork truck company.

I operate the band saw, CNC drill tap centers, and many other various manual/automatic metal turning machines.

I've recently started at The Cobalt Group here in Seattle, a dotcom that didn't explode like all the others. Hopefully, it'll be a bit more permanent than a summer job, though my current contract ends sometime in September -- I think. It's in the midst of being extended.

I do fun things involving vehicle inventory management, websites, and car dealers.

I'm a waiter in a VERY small town in Southeastern Virginia. I have fun too. I'd probably work there if I didn't get paid.

This is my third year at the ol' family business (well, one of them). It's called Husite Engineering, and we do tooling for prototype work. I do all kinds of things there, from sweeping the floor to data management to running CNC machines to driving forlifts.

I also have a few grad parties to DJ and I'm taking 8 credit hours (calc and chem) at a community college so I can lessen my load for next year.

I survey gas service lines in MA and NH. I basically walk from the street to a house making sure there arent any gas leaks on the service line or the gas meter. I work for Sureys and Analysis Inc, which is hired out by various gas companies.

I'll be working for my sister's dad's plumbing company. He has an office on the street by my house, so Janina (my sister, she's 29) and I will be driving to the office to work for a couple hours or so. I'll be doing filing, research, payroll, etc.
I only get paid $5.50, but it's all good. It's a job, and I do need the money for college. Boy do I need it.

Wow, that's gotta be awesome. You build robots and get paid for it AND get semi-free college?!? :ahh:

Most likely: same as the past two years, working at the local ice cream store till I move to Waterloo for school in August!

Possible: working at a local science center, and at times getting paid to demonstrate our robot!! That would be so cool, we'll see.

I worked at the Pacific Science Center here in Seattle -- the first science center in the world -- for 13 months. The museum was cash-strapped and is not always a glamorous place, but it simply made us find creative ways of teaching people.

If you're interested in interacting with kids and teaching for a dynamic, sometimes disinterested variety of people, it can be an amazing experience. I had to move on, but I really do miss it.

If you have the chance to work at a museum, take it! They're amazing.
