Re: Teams losing lots of seniors
our team this year is mostly seniors but next year dondero and kimball (our two teams schools) are combining so we have tons of new people that we can bring in since both schools will be one.

Losing seniors...
Every year teams lose seniors. It's the way it has to go. We can't avoid losing seniors but we can train good members that would fill the gap and do the job the way it should be done. It all starts with the freshmen. If everybody work together, willing to learn and teach, then losing seniors wouldn't be a big deal. Because other seniors willl fill in. Actually, I think this thing is good, because as studentss change with time, the team becomes more likely to be better. The leaving seniors should be an examples that underclassmen should look up to. Because there must be leaders in teams, and i think most seniors have got what it takes.

Re: Teams losing lots of seniors
Our team, for some reason, has no seniors and only 2 juniors. Team 1719 is almost entirely composed of sophomores and freshmen. But to be fair we are also at the bare minimum. originally we started with 5 juniors and even more sophomores, but most of the juniors and some of the sophomores left. About how many new people leave after the start?

Re: Teams losing lots of seniors
That only leaves it for your team to be mainly juniors and seniors in two years.
Our team is similar, but it still has a well-established base of seniors and juniors, me being one. Based on the results of our diverse team, which is one-half freshmen and one-half upperclassmen, we have enough people to do about all jobs we would like to do for students, while we all have the capability of being effectively led or having leadership potential. |
Re: Teams losing lots of seniors
Well team 528. We have 8 main people and next year its only going to be me and one other kid so I basily over the down time got to recruit a lot of people. :ahh:

On the other hand, our team is really healthy, with a core group of 2 seniors, and six or eight each sophomores and juniors. Our team leaders are mostly juniors, so next year should be very strong. |
Re: Teams losing lots of seniors
I suppose that this is an update as to how my team is doing now. The rookies have proven to be amazing to work with, as they are the most capable and pleasant group of any grade that I have worked with during a season. I had confidence, but was nervous at the beginning of the season; however now, I know that these guys will have no trouble keeping the team going next year. The group has persevered through the most difficult time of build, that is not being always able to do something, such as when we had to start detailing the design, or when we were machining (We cannot have kids that have not been trained in our vocational machining class operating the lathes and mills, only me and another senior are qualified this way). These guys picked up on the programs that we use very quickly. Some learned 3DS, or Inventor, or the programming techniques. Only one rite of passage left for them...time for a regional!
