That mosaic is mimicking the very, very high-speed shot of a bullet piercing through an apple. I don't know WHY you chose to make that for a sponsor since I don't know too much about your team. Maybe because you guys attended the New York Regional and wanted to convey going to the "Big" apple and it being a "mosaic" of diversity? Lol. I know, that's lame.. .but it's an attempt.

Hmm. Looks like a guy with a video camera to me. And you're giving it to one of their sponsors becuase one of your sponsors makes video cameras... (if I'm even close I'll be very suprised)

Yup thats the famous pic of a .308 round used in demonstrations showing the effect of a .308 to the head.

You are using that picture because three ueber-cool MIT students decided to make a bolt gun, and capture images of the bolt going through objects. Really ingenious, the triggering system they used...

Writing the program took about 3 days. The render time depends a great deal on the number of pictures and the size of the pictures used. (And I'm sure my code isn't the most efficient out there.) With a 769 640x480 pictures, it takes about 4 minutes. The image quality would be improved significantly (fewer repeated pictures, better coloring) if I had more images - 2,000 or so. I'll have to scrounge around.

No, that's a picture of the flag poles at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester. (see big version: http://web.mit.edu/scolton/www/final.jpg) It got repeated because that section of the original picture was all blue so the color-matching program keeps choosing those pictures. That's something I have to work on in the code too. Right now I have it so that no picture is repeated within 5 tiles of itself, but that seems to just produce 5x5 tile repeats in the pure blue section of the picture.

Nobody has gotten the 10 point trivia question yet (Why that picture?), so it's time for another hint: Who took the picture?

(The first hint was that we would be giving a copy to one of our sponsors in particular...you may have to check our web site to solve the riddle. :) )

Because I <3 Google:

The picture (http://www.eyestorm.com/works/Doc_Edgerton_9644.aspx) was taken by Doc Edgerton, who was a distinguished MIT professor (bio here: http://www.edgerton.org/biography.html), and one of your sponsors is the MIT Edgerton Center.

Very, very cool, I must say!

That's a cool pic. Kind of took me a min or two to realize what it was of (wasn't expecting it to be a apple being shot).

Ten points to melitami! I figure we can get a nice big poster-sized one and a frame...should look good in the Edgerton Center office.
