Re: IRI registered teams
OK, OK, we get it. Some reasonable number of teams are going to show up somewhere in Indiana at some time during the summer, bringing along some number of robots, and they are all going to get together and do something. Some fun will be had by all.
But what we REALLY need to know is: when is someone going to start the critical "2005 IRI Music List" thread????!!!??! -dave [starting to rifle through old Jimi Hendrix LP's, searching for the right tunes to make Andy Baker happy] |

Re: IRI registered teams
Hmm, I think I wil have to second Dave on this one. Can we have an all-Hendrix (and Zeppelin) IRI?
|
Re: IRI registered teams
You can't have all Hendrix. You need to mix in some greats like The Who, The Beatles and all the music from the competitions. OK you don't need to have the music from the competitions.
|
Re: IRI registered teams
How much can Dave be trusted?
|
Re: IRI registered teams
Here kids, a great "old school" song...Eastbound and down by Jerry Reed. Can't fight a great like that.
|
Re: IRI registered teams
I'd prefer "Convoy" by C.W. McCall :D but East Bound and Down is good too.
How about some KISS and Twisted Sister. |

I nominate Clark Gilbert and Dave Lavery to be our IRI DJ's. Who's with me on this one?

Ill second that. :)

Re: 2005 IRI Music List
I'll third it. :)

There is a motion on the floor for a Mr. Dave Lavery and a Mr. Clark Gilbert to be Djs. All in favor say "Aye!!!"
Aye!!! (in the making of this post I achieved BeachBot number of posts!) |

Re: 2005 IRI Music List
I'm going to (finally) be bringing the FIRST Music Playlist 2004 CDs with me. That's about...200 songs or something. It's been a LITTLE bit updated with the 2005 season.
Here's the Excel file, if you want to know all the music titles: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/at...achmentid=3364 |
Re: 2005 IRI Music List
I guess if I'm going to be doing music for IRI I'll be posting .html playlist files sometime by the weekend and everyone can look over them and suggest stuff to add.
If you weren't around when this thread was created back in 2003, you may want to read it for a refresher (although it doesn't have very useful info in it). Maybe if I can catch David online sometime I'll see if he can add these .html playlists on the indianfirst.org website for people to look at. |
Re: 2005 IRI Music List
From the Planning Committee:
Anything from the following playlist is acceptable, anything else is considered rubbish - Rush Led Zeppelin Rolling Stones Beatles (but only when they were a group - no solo junk) Foreigner Peter Frampton KISS (anything before 1984) Van Halen Elton John Boz Scaggs Bruce Springsteen DEVO The Knack Van Morrison The Doors The Cars and, Cindi Lauper Clark, If you have trouble finding these, let me know and I can loan you my albums (just don't scratch them!) |
Re: 2005 IRI Music List
i've got a list in my head already in the works of stuff to suggest, altough in the past i think that several genres have been completely under represented in the IRI music, maybe my position in IndianaFIRST can help me put some more preasure for some of my favorites to get played:)
And clark, send me the html files jhambright@indianafirst.org and i'll see that they make it online. |

Besides, rather than just repeat my suggestions from last year, I am including all of them by reference and just providing the additions to the list in this thread. But while we are on the subject, we should reference your post in that other thread, and discuss the suggestion of "Dixie Chicken." While the song in subject is noteworthy indeed, the version you cited - a knockoff by some sissified hack in a cowboy hat - is barely worth mentioning. The only version worthy of serious consideration is the original by Little Feat. Nonetheless, for a youngster you have made a valiant attempt at a credible list of rock (although placing "Pinball Wizard" right aftter "Cherry Pie" is something like putting a Picasso after a cigarette ad). :D -dave (shuffling back into a corner, clutching piles of old 33 and -gasp!- 78 LPs to his chest while his old geezer eyes dwell on an original Sam Cooke album cover) |

I don't have the widest range of music, and what music I do listen to would be really odd to hear at a robotics competition. So...might as well throw some food in the water and if the ducks don't want it, it'll crumble and sink into post archive oblivion..... David Bowie - Let's Dance (I've been wanting to hear this one at a FRC for a very long time. Try to play it when 469 operators are on cue (pretty please?)). Radiohead - I Might Be Wrong Red Hot Chili Peppers - Can't Stop (if timed right, this could be really cool. Crecendo intro lasts for approximately 21.5 seconds, enough time for automode) That's all I've got for now. |
Re: 2005 IRI Music List
Ok there is one song that i want to here
Its from the spongebob squarpants movie the "Gooffy Goober song" it fets me LOL :D :D :D |
Re: 2005 IRI Music List
I expect the music to be top notch, and hope to hear many good songs this year.
I'll throw in my one suggestion. Fatboy Slim - Because We Can If only because it's rockin' and the sort of stuff you'd expect to hear at a FIRST competition. |
Re: 2005 IRI Music List
So basically from the sound of this thread, all we'll be listening to is classic rock? Now don't get me wrong, i love rock i do, but if we're going to go old school can we at least get some...something else?
The only things I've heard that caught my eye are: Stray Cats, Devo (but please, make it something besides Whip It), The Clash, The Ramones and Billy Idol. I also liked the suggestion of Song 2 by Blur. Its a good sporting event song. And the Killers And Duran Duran. But what if you're going for old school, how about The (English) Beat, Minor Threat (haha, sorry wishful thinking there), The Specials (c'mon, if they are good enough to be in Sixteen Candles, they're good enough for FIRST!), Adam and the Ants, The Brian Setzer Orchestra Or for the kids who dont listen to anything more than a few months old: Underoath, My Chemical Romance, Motion City Soundtrack, Fall Out Boy (Who doesnt like these kids now a days, eh?), World/Inferno friendship society, armor for sleep, AFI (my personal favorite band of all time), Tiger Army, Alkaline Trio, Head Automatica (great dance style techno rock), etc? |
Re: 2005 IRI Music List
Don't worry... it won't all be classic rock. I'll play some techno/80s/modern too. It just won't be all techno.
|
Re: 2005 IRI Music List
Don't listen to that, Clark. Older music is good music.
Brian Setzer Orchestra is old school? I was on my way to high school when that CD came out....thats not old. Keep the playlists the same as what I last saw, and you should be fine for music :D |
