Who is working on their team site over the summer?
Hey,
I'm just curious, how many of you are going to be working on your team website over the summer? (I hope this hasn't already been asked; when I searched I only found people in disparate threads of various ages mentioning things). Those of you who are planning something, if you want to mention what you're planning on doing (in as detailed or as vague and mystery-creating a way as you please) that would be cool. I guess I'll start with myself; I'm an alumni, so I'm not going to be working on a team site per say, but I have been doing, and will continue to do work on the openFIRST project website. The work is mostly along the lines of documentation and cleaning up/simplifying navigation and finding things; but there may be some new features... we've got some ambitious plans for a development playground of sorts (similar to the Bugzilla Landfill ), I hope they work out. Re: Who is working on their team site over the summer?
I plan on working on our site with a couple of friends. We plan on completely overhauling it, probably keeping the base we already have, which is currently located here
Some features I hope to add -A Introduction -A Flash Version of the Site, complete with a custom PHP news editor integrated into it (makes for easy news updating in flash) -The Narrowband Version is going to based off CuteNews -Move it on to its own server and buy a domain for it -Possibly a whiteboard program developed by one of the students on our team -Lots more content! -Pictures -Video -RSS feed -And hopefully a couple more ideas |

Re: Who is working on their team site over the summer?
I don't do the team site but I'll be working on the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society website for the Cal Poly Pomona chapter. We might go with e107 for it.

Re: Who is working on their team site over the summer?
We're totally redoing the entire website.
Well...not all the information, but the layout is being replaced. The history section is being updated - some stuff such as a intractive calendar for displaying when events are and the times of robotics each day. There will be an actual news script (instead of just using the forum). Anything else I think of will be added in too as I go along. :) |
Re: Who is working on their team site over the summer?
I'll be working on our site to get ready for our first year as a team, so I'm starting a new site from scratch.

Re: Who is working on their team site over the summer?
1089 is completely revamping the site. It's going to be flash & html. With a PHP Forum. =)

Re: Who is working on their team site over the summer?
Well, since this year I made the website from a freewebs predone layout, the kids will be doing the website this year. I think they're going to try it this summer, somehow we ended up with a mentor who does webstuff for a living! Yay luck! But I do think they're going to try it this summer.

Re: Who is working on their team site over the summer?
Yep... we're redoing the whole thing. I've put in a lot of work lately on my CMS, which should allow us to get a nice site going. :)
Don't really know what we'll do for a layout and etc. I'm the PHP, XHTML, and CSS guy, not the design team. ;) |

Re: Who is working on their team site over the summer?
We're getting a new site guy, so we'll definitely be working on our website. We'll be adding more updates, pictures, a better archive, hopefully videos, and more interesting things. Our team has a really really bad habit of not updating our site too much (as you most likely have seen) so yeah, definitely working on it this summer.

** scouting One major one, for those teams that were ever in a match with us, know of our scouting system, which this year became very well known. It is a "Poor-man's scouting system" and has proven to work very well. One of our team members, who made our famous scouting cards, posted it on chiefdelphi as a white paper. I would like to make next year's available on our website with a full step-by-step tutorial and additional tips for scouting. This may be a very useful resource for many teams. We are still organizing this to see if we can do it. ** new skins I just finished two new skins today and they are up. http://spamrobotics.com/ One is the graphical version and the other, with a link to it at the top of every page, is a text-based version that should load much faster and be more browser-friendly. ** shared content system Every time I redo the website, I had to copy and paste page after page so I could set up the new site without affecting the old one. This time, I made a more efficient system. I made two folders on the server, skins and content. In skins I put a folder for each skin. Inside that folder, I put an index file, a file for every page, a stylesheet, and image files for graphics. In the folder content, I put a file for each piece of information that would be the same in each skin. I have files like news, copyright, sponsors, history, etc. When I want to use content, I use the php include command to include it. Basically, I made a system of skins and seperated the content. It is very efficient for me and I recommend other people doing it, for those of you who don't. ** other features We have a list of other ideas of features to add and things to make better. ** website team partnerships One idea I had was to work on a project between teams. I know that some teams already do this for different things, but I wanted to start a project that other teams could help with. I was thinking of asking some teams known in osme way for scouting to help with the scouting system tutorial. If anyone is interested in helping with any project, let me know. |
