2005 IRI Bizarro Music List

We know we're gonna get inundated with the usual requests for Zeppelin, Queen, the Beatles, etc. in the *other* IRI music thread, so let's hear your ideas for really bad, bizarre, obscure, or other "unique" music that should be played at the 2005 IRI. Entries could either be songs that are totally out of place at a robotics competition, or perhaps the kind of brain-exploding garbage they can play as cruel "motivational" music to coerce the setup/teardown crews to get their jobs done faster or to drive the throng of people screaming out the door when the show's over (assuming DS&TK doesn't do that already........HA! Just kidding - rock on, dudes!).

This will allow Dave and Clark to compile an "alternate" playlist they can whip out when they're feeling a bit evil.

Let me start the list -

Brain-exploding Garbage:

1. ANY DDR SONG IN EXISTENCE, looped indefinitely with the volume all the way up
2. POLKA POLKA POLKA
3. Any recordings of Karthik singing - I know of at least one.
4. Barney kids songs
5. Whiny punk-pop bands (not all punk bands are whiny - just the bad ones)

Weird Stuff:

1. Carmina Burana O Fortuna
2. Phantom of the Opera - Toronto cast only
3. 80's TV Theme Songs - A-Team, Airwolf, Knight Rider
4. The Emperor's Theme from Star Wars

Every year of IRI, we have played this obscure song:

Balls to the Wall - Accept

Also, I would like to hear these songs:

Barney Clean-up Song (during teardown)
the "Thank You Very Much" song that Scrooge sings at the end of the "a Christmas Carol"

Balls to the Wall... What a great song. Udo Dickscheiner on vocals and Wolfgang Hoffmann on guitar is a great combo. Andy and I have been talking about this one for years. I used to have that album on vinyl when I was a kid. Oh, the memories.

Last year I remember hearing Hikaru's "Simple and Clean" remix from the game
"Kingdom Hearts". If you guys are allowed to play video game music at IRI, then there are endless possibilities:

Dance Dance Revolution is packed with Dance/Techno songs, not to mention the game is pretty popular amongst us robot people :p .

How about some battle music from famous RPG's? It fits perfectly to the competitive spirit in competition!

.....

If not, just stick to the macarana and chicken dance.... :p

I don't really remember the name of the song that was played last year but I know that my friends and I still sing the song... It says "So this is the United States of Whatever" and there is one line that goes "and I saw Kiki at the beach and she was like ahhh and I was like Whatever." If anyone could tell me the name of the song and play it it would be great!

Creation - Stereo MCs
Feel Good Inc. - Gorrillaz

Well, I suppose this could be "standard" techno, but I really like the DDR remix of "Twilight Zone."

And the name of the song Kelli is referring to is "United States of Whatever" by Liam Lynch.

I also have to say I'd like to hear the following:
From Tarzan: "Trashin' the Camp" 'N Sync & Phil Collins
"Star Trekkin' "
"Night on Bald Mountain"
From the Matrix: "The Lobby Scene"

That was Spybreak by the Propellerheads and that one is a really good choice.

Re: 2005 IRI Bizarro Music List

Well if you want weird. I'm the man, i prefer to be thought of as eclectic though.

If you feel like spending about 80 minutes on a single track and you want people to be confused as to whats going on, i definitely think that Karlheinz Stockhausen's “Stimmung” is a great piece.

Continuing with the possibilities of throat and mouth singing, we cant forget the hits from Kongar-ol Ondar (featured in the film Genghis Blues, which is a great documentary), the ever famous throat singer from the center of Asia, Tuva.

If you feel like instilling fear into the souls of the drivers, just pick up any album with Kronos Quartet.

Phillip Glass...nuff said.

Really, any minimalist piece is really good for the nerve builder.

Want to get their brains to fizzle and pop? Check out Otto Von Schirach. Or some work by Venetian Snares.

Enough of that for now. Maybe i will post some music in the other thread thats less....eclectic.

I have got absolutely the cheeziest and un-robotics-ish song ever for you. A couple years ago one of my team's members wanted to sell the idea of an omni-bot to the team, so he made a video of his omni-wheel assembling itself, using some built in function of Inventor. The soundtrack he chose? "Summer Samba", as performed by Stan Getz & Charlie Byrd. It had us in hysterics, but unfortunately the 'bot never got built...

You could play some Warren Zevon if you wanted everyone to be freaked out. Anything by Weird Al is cool to. But it would be funny if you played some hard core gangsta rap because everybody loves rap. The HALO soundtrack would be fun because tons of people play HALO. Finishing off the list would be local bands so that they would get exposure.

Baby Got Back -> just don't play the beginning
Lustra -> on the current CD in my car...though probably not appropriate...just listen to the words
[hatred for country music seeps from pores]
tim mcgraw -> i hope nobody shows me where the plug for the sound system is [/finished seeping]

i do love scotty doesn't know...but it's more of a 2-AM-bored-out-of-your-mind-don't-want-to-study-don't-want-neighbors-to-study-blare-throughout-tarkingon-hall than an "absolute value of script R" (there ya go andy) song...just my opinion

Girls Love Robots - Pollen

Jerry Was A Race Car Driver - Primus
All American Bad...arse - Mad Caddies

And one for Baker:
Cut the Mullet - Wesley Willis

In making random CD's for Atlanta's road trip, Ricky Quinones and I both put Rockapella's Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego. Also a good one.

Scott, obviously you are watching too much Disney Channel or listening to Disney Radio on XM. That song downright sucks. You should be ashamed of yourself. Now, if this is Taylor's request, then ignore my last 10 words and count me in as a Kim Possible fan. By the way, the Kim Possible theme (Call me, beep me! - Christina Millan) song is better.

Sara... IRI is a "no-Wham!-playing" event. We have magnets and scanners at the doors. If any musical media is brought to the event with any Wham! on it, said media will be immediately destroyed.

Also... there is no need to bring "Baby Got Back". Derek and Karthik from Niagra FIRST will be taking care of our Backs, as they need to redeem themselves from a poor showing on stage in Atlanta.

Styx, Tommy Tutone... those are good choices.

Chris and Dave... Arlo Guthrie? Sheesh, you are REALLY showing your age. Do you want Copioli saying "gimme an F!"? I think not. I am starting to re-think this "Lavery as DJ" idea. Maybe he needs to be assigned to be "pit announcer" or "nacho maker".

Fultz... from what I hear, the band is regretting their accusation of the missing million dollars. Eddie was confused about a song, and overly excited about the chance of seeing Bare Naked Ladies for real (he has not seen one in person, from what we know). So, they have told me to tell you that they are sorry for the accusation and they would like to park in your yard during the IRI again this year.

Enough,
Andy

The band 'They might be giants' or TMBG wrote the theme song for Malcom in the middle, and the music intro to The Daily Show.

they have a number of albums going back at least 10 years, with some great music that never gets any air time (indie label)

songs by TMBG that would be great for a FIRST event:

Birdhouse in Your Soul

LoL Amanda brought up a good one.. anything by Wesley Willis would be awesome, more specifically Rock and Roll Mcdonalds or Cut the Mullet are classics.

Tracy Morgans Rocket skit song.

Ratatat - Seventeen Years

Aladdin- I can show you the world ( great sing a long classic )

Daft Punk- Technologic

Beastie Boys- Girls

The Indianapolis Colts and maybe all NFL teams for that matter used to have a video clip that was taken from Cheers that has the cast doing a quasi stomp version of Queens "We Will Rock You". They would play it just before kick off and it would just set the crowd off. Now they have the scene from Braveheart where they flip up their kilts to the English (If I only had a nickle for every time I have done that).

Anyway if you could get that clip it would be an awesome intro. to start things off. I have tried to get this since we started helping with the IRI but have never been able to get it.

Here's a good one

Duct Tape Madrigal (don't know the artist)

Lyrics:

Duct tape, duct tape, oh where is my duct tape.
My pavillon is leaking, my old shield is cracked.
My poor heart is broken, I'll fix it with duct tape.
Fix it with duct tape until you come back.

Ribbons and safety pins and bias tape;
I've tried every single color, each variety and every shape.
But only duct tape can bind you to me,
Oh where is my duct tape, Oh where can it be.

Duct tape is better than glue,
It fixes stuff just like new.
Be prepared throughout your life,
Keep a roll beneath your pillow at night.
