POV-Ray Experience?
Hi All,
I just found POV-Ray the other night ( www.povray.org ), and it looks pretty cool. I was wondering how many of you have used it before, and if you have, do you have any advice/recommendations as to the best way to go about learning how to use it effectively? Thanks! Dave |
Re: POV-Ray Experience?
For the last three years I've done POV-Ray models of the FIRST fields. It's such an amazing program. It might not be able to do animation as well as the 3ds software, but it can render REALLY nice stills. It's completely ray-traced, so the lighting and reflections come out great. It's hard to model free-hand because there is no visual GUI, just text-based. But when you have exact measurements to work from, it's actually pretty easy.
Here's this year's field: http://web.mit.edu/scolton/www/05field.html You can also download POV-Ray source and the diamondplate texture from that page. |

Check out Moray (http://www.stmuc.com/moray/), its a nice gui for use with POV Ray.
We use it and love it for our logos. (http://www.sevaa.com) |

I've never done a model by hand, but I've used it a lot for LEGO modeling with LDraw/MLCAD. The models always come out very nice.
