So, you get paid to write free code?

I'm going to work on this, need some ideas though =/

I'd like to do something FIRST related, but not sure what. Any ideas?

EDIT: Keep in mind it has to be done by the end of the summer.
EDIT 2: Just had an idea, we should contact FIRST and see if we can have them as a sponsor for this... :D

Sort of.

You fill out an application, and if your application gets accepted, then you might get paid to write free code. I think you're guaranteed 500, and then you get the other $4,000 only if you actually finish the project.

The sponsor automatically gets $500.

Plus, everyone gets a tshirt! :D

Too bad the PHP people aren't listed.... :(

Well that kinda sucks...

Aw, that's too bad. If your open-source coding is anything like your robot autonomous code, that probably would have been an easy $4500 for you. Maybe in a couple of years. :(

Heh, thanks. To tell you the truth, after I really thought about it I got kinda intimidated. I'd be competing with some of the worlds top student programmers for only 200 spots, and seeing as I just started learning C about 6 months ago (only reason I picked up so fast is because I know advanced PHP. Your autonomous is pretty cool too, btw :) It's a lot smoother than ours, ours is real jerky =/

See, that's the part I don't know about. I'm certainly not an expert programmer, since I just started with OOP two years ago, but I don't know how they can make a judgment off of what little information they asked for in the application. No question of age, or experience, or a portfolio of past projects. All they have to go off of is the project description, which I basically paraphrased from the Mono website and added some technical jargon. I don't know how they can differentiate between two applications for the same project.

I'd rather it had been done three months ago than to be smooth, and that's where your credit lies. ;)

I'd apply in your case. I'm sure the agreement is active once you've been accepted.
