What are everyones summer plans?

So, I was wondering, whats everyone planning for the summer? Trips, sticking around home... what? Cuz hey, you never know, there are so many FIRSTers, lets see if there are any chances of us seeing eachother and being in the same area!

So far I know I am going to Clayton NY [Near Alexandria Bay/Thousand Islands] the last week in July. If anyone else is gunna be in that area then lemme know. I would love to make more FIRST friends. :)

Mainly just taking a nice long break from a hard year at school. It looks like I won't have a "normal" job this summer, so I've been working outside a lot. Here on Saturday I'm leaving for vacation in North Carolina (should be awesome, I've never been). Then I'm going to be the "IRI DJ" later in July, which should be awesome.

I'm leaving for the sunny and warm Valencia, Spain in two days.

I'll be there from June 9 - July 26 with the IU honors program, speaking no English and having a blast. Contact me if you want me to email you in Spanish (I won't send emails in English).

After that, on July 27 (my mom has great timing) I'm scheduled to have my wisdom teeth removed. Yech.

August 1 - 12 = Marching Band camp.

YAY COLORGAURD

And on August 15 or so school starts. I'm pretty busy and happy!

Let's see... The last two weeks of June I'm off. July 8-9 is Richmond Off-Sean Invitational... So I imagine there will be plenty of meeting the next weeks after school... July 6th braces off... July 8th my boyfriend leaves for Brazil for two weeks... ;_; July 13th Retainer... July 15, HP book comes out, AND Charlie and the chocolate factory. Last week of July is VBS, and after that until school I have a babysitting gig for $125 a week.

Busybusybusy this summer. Plus summer reading and an algebra packet for math next year. >< ICK!

I'm finally going to get a job hopefully, continue to bikeride, do yard work, sleep, breathe, enjoy the time off, and maybe a few side projects. Plus I need to pass the driver's test to get a level 2 license.

I will possibly (interview Thursday) have an internship at Northrop Grumman. In addition, we will be visiting the Pacific Northwest (Oregon, Washington, and possibly Idaho) in July. Boy scout summer camp is in the middle of August, and then band camp starts the week after that. Plus I'm going to get a wisdom tooth removed, as well as some other procedures that I don't really want to say. A busy summer indeed.

well my summer looks like this.

1-2 weeks off to a Ukrainian camp where i will be a counselor for kids between the age of 13-18. then relaxing for the second week.

and the last few days of camping I'll be up in Potsdam, NY for my college orientation.

back to home to work just about everyday so i don't need to work in college. it sounds weak but i don't have much time until i get to go off to college August 25th.

Working, working some more, then maybe some more working. Then on days that I'm not working I'm doing all the stuff I had to do on the days I was working. Any free time will be me sitting around the house relaxing. Also, I'm leaving this Saturday for a week long family vacation in North Carolina.

Right now i am on my first road trip of the summer. I drove from California, Md to Grafton, WV. it was about a 6 hour trip. While i am here i have been hanging out with family and went to a few state parks. My next trip will be to the mountains of Pocono in Pennsylvania to do some camping and off roading in the jeeps. I will be sure to take plenty of pictures and stuff and share them once i get back to Maryland.

Re: What are everyones summer plans?

I'm pretty much planning on working on my cars over the summer. Maybe some day trips but no big ones, saving my money for the cars.

After replacing the inner fender sheet metal, rewiring most of the engine compartment, and replacing (upgrading) the transmission lines with stainless steel, and rebuilding the heater box, I put the Mustang back together so I can drive it over the summer. I'm looking now to replace the damaged and worn grill pieces so I'm keeping an eye on Ebay. I did buy repro grill pieces but none of them fit well even after attempting to tweak them so N.O.S. or used are the only way to go.

My spare car, an '87 Caprice Classic wagon, also needs attention. Poor things going downhill since it sits outside now and isn't driven regularly. It sat most of the winter and now the exhaust is roached out in the front near the exhaust manifold of all places. It sounds like I have open headers now! :D The car also needs shocks and repairs where it's starting to rust out. Looks like another job for the MIG welder. :) Of course I still want to replace the tired motor (170,000 miles) but that will have to wait a little longer, maybe next year.

And we have Ford Field fundraising, and building a mini bot for the heritage festival. WoOt recruting rookies. But personally, I'm going to go up to the UP with my friend and stuff. Re: What are everyones summer plans?

Well, this summer is very scary for me... I've decided to quit my job and go back to school in the fall, and so I'll be spending my summer getting ready for it. On July 5th, I have to go meet with a guidance counselor to figure out which of my credits will transfer. On July 12th, I have to register for classes. And after I register for classes, I have to decide whether or not I'm putting in my 2 week notice before I go to IRI or after. I want to be out of my job by August 8th so that I can maybe go to Connecticut for a week or so before school starts.

In between all of this, I'll be driving Eric crazy with questions like "Am I making a mistake?" "Should I wait another year?" and "What if I find out I'm really dumb?" because I'm really nervous about making a choice like this. So to try to take my mind off of it, I've started going through all of the non-robotics photos I've taken to create some photo galleries. I created my first one tonight, it's called Living Things

So yeah, my summer plans are to fret and worry and to follow my dreams (and hope they take me somewhere good!)

Heidi,

You are quite talented. Those pictures are amazing! I especially like the tiff. If you are furthering your education in photography, it is a good idea, as you obviously have a great eye. A friend of mine is the best photographer at the local newspaper (Kokomo Tribune), and he loves what he does.

I suppose I should say what I am doing this summer, since that is the point of this thread.

Went to Indiana Beach and rode rides with family
Visited some good friends in Michigan, visited Greenfield Villiage
Vacationed in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina
Worked at Delphi
Worked on stuff for AndyMark
Played a bunch of tennis with my wife
Finished building the main part of a tree house for my kids (I gotta get a pic up... it is way cool)
Visited FIRST and friends in New Hampshire
Did some FIRST stuff in Indy

Plans...
Hosting a DS&K practice
Helping to coordinate a spectacular IRI
Continuing to work on stuff (Delphi, AM)
Empowering some TechnoKat students to help Model (CAD) and build a play ground for Bona Vista
Making a trip to Lake Michigan to visit some friendly FIRSTers
Getting ready for another FIRST season

Thank you, Andy. I love photography, and maybe one day I’ll actually take a class dealing with it, but at this point, I’m declaring English as my major.

And to mention the topic of the thread, I forgot to mention one of my unfortunate summer plans… two weeks of dog-sitting. For two geriatric dogs. We cannot have the dogs at our place because the little dog, Prissy, is a barker, plus she gets into things, and because the big dog, Rudy, does not do well on stairs and our condo is on the second floor. Did I mention that these dogs are old? Prissy occasionally has seizures. And Rudy has a problem with his larynx that is worse when it’s hot and/or humid, and he wheezes something fierce when he walks. Rudy is a dominant dog, who likes to dominate other dogs and even people he does not know, even though he’s been neutered for 7 years. In his old age, he has forgotten he knows me, so he tries it on me too and since he’s mostly deaf, he doesn’t respond to “Down, Rudy! Sit!” anymore. Sigh. Oh, did I mention that the dogs, like their owners, are both vegan? It is no simple matter of going over and putting down food, not at all. Rudy gets a cup and a half of vegan kibble, and then you have to mix in a teaspoon of some green powder (alfalfa powder?) and a quarter of a cup of soy milk (but make sure that the soy milk isn’t too cold), throw in half of a vitamin pill and half of a thyroid pill. Prissy gets a quarter of a cup of vegan kibble with a couple of spoonfuls of wet (vegan) dog food (warm up in microwave first), some green powder, some kind of a citrus powder (in the morning only), half of a vitamin. Oh, and every other meal or so, mix in a spoon of olive oil to both bowls to give the dogs some extra vegan fat.

And to get to the real crux of the situation: the dog mess. When first told we were dog sitting, I told Eric that he would be the one bagging up the left behinds, that if I had to go over to the house by myself, they were not getting walked but would have to use the back yard (the back yard is huge). Well, we have been informed that in his advanced age, Rudy has started the habit of eating what he just recycled, so now that is supposed to be picked up immediately. Now, if it were just the yard being cleaned once a week, I could do it, no problem. But coming straight from the factory itself, still warm and odoriferous, forget it, no way, uh-uh… Sigh. I think I'll just keep thinking happy thoughts about IRI, maybe then it won't seem so bad...

Heidi
