FIRSTers and Legos

The idea for this poll came to me after I talked with some other people on my team and found out that we had a common childhood interest: Legos. And it makes perfect sense, too. What better toys could aspiring engineers wish for?

So, how many of y'all were (or still are) obsessed with playing with Legos?
I've loved them since I was, I dunno, 4 or 5, and I still bring 'em out occassionally. I've saved all my best creations... the one I'm most proud of is a Star Wars pod-racer made entirely from non-Star Wars kit parts.

Ack I meant to click the last option! >__<

I used to love legos, and I still do. So fun and entertaining. I play with my cousins all the time and we have so much fun building stuff. We mentor two lego teams also, so it's a lot of fun being able to watch them do what I loved doing as a kid.

Jeez I remember going into K-mart and running to the Lego section. I need to one day have a shelf or two devoted to legos. w00t!

I have mentored 8 FLL teams throughout my high school career. How can I forget those days. Also you can make a lot of cool things with legos. You never know how the prototype you made became reality.

Obsessed.. hmm..

Was, am now, and will be in the future.

The heck with some shelves Dori, I'm thinkin' some Lego storage rooms.

You know you're addicted to Lego when these sites are in your favorites:

http://www.lego.com

http://www.brickshelf.com/

http://www.peeron.com/

And you are in amazement from these sites of lego based creations:

And you watch in wonderment at these kinds of vids:

Re: FIRSTers and Legos

Even though I haven't played with them in a few years I still have a large blue Tupperware tote filled with them. There's also a cardboard box with the Techniques kits that I lost the directions for and I'm afraid to dismantle them and never be able to reassemble them.

Me and my sister used to cover the dinning room table with the road plates. We had a police station, fire station, hospital, gas station, truck stop, and many other assorted kits including vehicles.

I was never into the space stuff although I did receive several kits for my birthday or X-mas. I did get two boat kits, a police boat and a freighter with containers. They were fun when we lived in NJ and had a pool. I can remember my father going to add chlorine sticks to the skimmer and pulling out LEGO pieces! :p

Before I discovered video games, or about 4 summers ago, also my first year of FLL, I took one of those big green square things and built a large "flying" base, complete with a garage, a control tower, and a whole bunch of other stuff. It also had a fleet of 10 "planes" of my own creation. It was really cool and survived until last summer when it fell of my bureau and shattered. :(

I don't remember them being called Legos at the time I was young, we always called them "building blocks" but yes I did play with them. I also had a set that used interlocking girders to build tall buildings in a hurry that came with a variety of window planels that snapped onto the girders. Effectively building curtain wall monstrosities in my living room. Add to that, Lincoln Logs and Erector sets.

Re: FIRSTers and Legos

The last time I 'played' with anything like LEGOs was wayyyyy back when I was a little kid playing with duplos.
The last time I used LEGOs for anything was when I was mentoring the FLL team in our district and before that when I was an actual member.
Other than that, I'm a K'NEX kid. :D I just never found LEGOs that appealing.

Boy, I haven't touched a lego part since .... well since last night actually. The alumn's of 2004 FLL #16(Martian Exchange Students) have been getting parts together so they can do a workshop up at EAA in Oshkosh tomorrow for the Civil Air Patrol Cadets. They'll doing a mini 'Mission Mars' Tournament.

Re: FIRSTers and Legos

I LOVE Lego's. i have played with them since i was a wee lad. when i hit 7th grade i joined the Lego robotics team. we did horrible that year but we bonded and worked hard, that is also when i adopted the motto DON'T USE TREADS! My 8th grade year i again was part of the team. This went a lot better. we designed one slick little robot. since it was the mission mars game the Martians were well equipped to handle it. We designed a cage that would drop down on the rover and carry it back to base. we finished third at our regional and in the top 20 in the state. Now i find time to mentor the two Goodrich Middle School teams and learn them some Lego's. Also me and my friend built the field for a rookie team in oxford at Clear Lake Elementary. I have loved Lego's all my life that when i heard that they were in financial trouble i almost broke down and cried.
