Re: Who is in charge of your team?
Team 204 is led by the students except for supervision that is where the advisers come in. They also help with other aspects of allowing the team to exist with out them we wouldn't be around, but it is the students who come up with the concepts and build all aspects of the robot.

Re: Who is in charge of your team?
I would have to say my team ( Team Roboto 447 ) is led by a group of about 4 students (on the robot side). Now when it comes to money and travel arrangements, thats when the advisor's kick in. They are facilitators not "leaders" (in the sense of the word) and thats why we love them!
Now I would like to give a giant THANK YOU to our two advisor's in the machine shop. Neither one of these guys are engineers, just two guys that know their way around a mill. Dan Newby and Mike Ray, are two guys that are dedicated to passing their knowledge of metal working on to us students, and thats what its all about. |
Re: Who is in charge of your team?
Maybe the question should be
"who gets a. sued , b. fired or c. arrested - if the team does something stupid, unsafe and resulting in injury? " That will tell you who is REALLY in Charge. Wisdom? Hmmm. WC  |
Re: Who is in charge of your team?
the teachers and mentors of our team are in charge...at least i think lol

Re: Who is in charge of your team?
Our team is under the authoritarian dictatorship of 'the King' aka Ms. Swanson, the teacher club advisor with some occaisonal comments from the mentors. Apparently the novelty concepts of diplomacy and student rule haven't taken root:yikes:.

Re: Who is in charge of your team?
WildStang is mainly run by a group of teachers and administrators from both Wheeling and Rolling Meadows High School. There is a group of students called "Student Leaders" who are the leaders of different sub-teams (mechanical, electrical, software, firmware, promotions, playing field, etc.) From this group of students you have the people in charge of such things as community events and outreach events. You could say WildStang Team 111 is run like a business. We have group leaders (usually seniors) who work with mentors and students and ten we have "Higher Ups" who make the bigger decisions. It is not as simple as "the teachers and mentors of our team are in charge". Some students take active roles in making decisions based on the design and features of the robot. As well as decisions that are vital to the team's reputation in the community and district.

Re: Who is in charge of your team?
i think our mentors try to take over too much power. we are a BIG team we get close to a 100 kids in the begining of the year (and eventually dwindle to 66) and our first couple of meetings the mentors try to initiate kids in mass but i think we would better off having experienced members taking on groups of kids. as the year progresses you get some aspects run completely by kids and some where kids follow the mentors lead. im incharge of one of the kid driven aspects.
