AP scores out
The College Board has released the 2005 AP grades via phone. It's an $8 call to 1-888-308-0013. You need (your AP number OR your social security number) AND your birthdate AND a valid credit card number AND the credit card's expiration date.

Re: AP scores out
wow. That is a lot of ands. Is there any other way to get our scores than by phone? I'm was just a sophmore when I took mine this year so no one really explained much to me.

Re: AP scores out
yeah, you'll get them in the mail in a bit, or you can try getting them online.

Re: AP scores out
$8 for a phone call? And you don't even get to meet any hot singles? :D LOL, j/k
but seriously, does anyone else think the College Board is evil like I do? |

I'll wait before I pay. *wonders if her AP teacher read at least one of her essays and knowing he's an AP reader*

Re: AP scores out
I have to say that the eight dollar fee thoroughly disgusts me. They already know the scores, and they're probably on a computer somewhere. So why not just release them to all the people who already paid 70 some dollars?

and 70 some dollars? Try $82 per test......cuz my school doesn't like to give financial aid to those who deserve it and keep the school test scores up. |

Re: AP scores out
Hehe, I remember those days of waiting for AP scores. Now that I have a collegiate perspective of it, it really isn't that expensive. If you did well you just got a class or two out of the way that in college would have cost you a ton more. In Arizona, by my estimate, it's roughly $440 per 3-credit class. I came into Northern Arizona with 20 AP credits (6 from AP US, 6 from AP Euro, 8 for AP Chem), and spent ~$200 for them. That's about $2,730 saved, and $8 really doesn't seem like a big deal. I'm pretty sure that most people here are going on to more expensive undergraduate schools than NAU, so you're saving even more. :)
But yes, the College Board is evil. Once your scores are transferred you'll never have to deal with them again. For a non-profit they sure do have a lot of overhead. Capitalist pigs. ;) |
Re: AP scores out
For CPP it is like $970 per quarter for 6-16 units I believe. This quarter I have only 8 units so it is a little more per class than other quarters when I take 16. Kind of messed up but that's just the way it is. To top it off, the class I really wanted to take this summer which I have trying to get since last winter I finally got into it by grabbing the last available seat and then the class was cancelled. :( But I'm going to check out the Rose Float club and hopefully get involved in that where I'll learn how to weld. :)

Re: AP scores out
I finally got impatient enough to just pay the $8 and make the phone call.
I got a 5 on both the Calculus BC exam and the AB subsection of the test, which gives me 8 units of credit. At Berkeley it's like $3200 in tuition and fees for a 16 unit semester, so that saves me about $1600 from a $90 test. I'd say that's a nice return. :yikes: |
Re: AP scores out
I called and they somehow didn't match my social security number with my birthday. I am guessing that is pretty bad. What can I do now?

Re: AP scores out
Remember, the $8 isn't just the cost of a phone call.
Do you wind up connected with a live person? If so, you have to include the time the person spends talking to you. At $8 per call, what kind of wages does that person earn? At least half the $8 would probably go to overhead (computer interfaces, network security, electricity, etc.). And the person may be paid per hour, not per phone call--paid whether the phones are ringing off the hook, or are silent. If it's an automated system, it has to be set up and run by someone, who most likely wants to be paid. Even nonprofits have to be run like a business in order to survive. Everything they do costs money, except for the actual time donated by volunteers. They must charge fees accordingly. If the College Board is "evil" for charging fees, then consider this: Will your employer consider you "evil" for charging for your time? Or will you work for free? Of course not! EVERYBODY wants to be paid for working, or for providing services or goods. That includes nonprofits, for-profits, small business, Big Business, labor unions, the government--not because they're greedy, but because everybody needs money. Your test fees cover certain items, such as having the scores mailed to you. They do not cover the phone service, which costs extra, hence the extra charge. If you don't absolutely need your test scores early, consider the $8 an optional expense, the same as going to see a movie. At $10 per ticket the last time we went to a movie theater, the phone call could be the better deal. >>climbs off soapbox<< |

Oh, yeah. A friend of mine took the ACT for the second time and misspelled his name, put his birth day in the wrong year, and screwed up his social security number. :ahh:
