FIRST=Happiness??
 

Alright, so basically I was looking over my passed year and all the things that have happened. I found that looking at it in one sense -- it was the worst year ever. But because of the things that happened -- I joined FIRST -- Which has made my year the best year ever. So okay I am going with two extremes. But I am a girl, what do you expect :p

Basically I realized that when I am stressed, having family problems, anything... I just come to my FIRST family and its like -- BOOM I am able to feel good and positive about the bad things. Everyone I have talked to in FIRST have been so motivating to me, and it feels like FIRST is now a MAJOR part of my life.

So, for me FIRST=Uber Happiness.

And I was wondering if anyone feels the same way.

All I know is I LOVE FIRST! and all my new amazing FIRST friends.. even though they live miles away!!! :)

FIRST makes me happy much more often than not. I don't remember what I used to do in my free time because all I think about is FIRST. Without FIRST, I am bored.

However, every story has a flip side. There have been moments in my FIRST experience that have made me angry and ones that made me upset, and moments that made me very disappointed, and moments that have made me very frustrated (and I'd be surprised if every one of you hasn't had the same), but in the end, all I need to do is remember the good times, and I know that I'm here for the long haul. :)

Yeah. FIRST is awesome. I have a ton of my friends at school that I make just from robotics. I have also made a few friends from here on CD. Nothing is more fun than a robotics trip, now those are fun times.

FIRST definetly = happiness...I have met some of the most amazing people since i joined FIRST. At the competitions where you can look like an idiot and nobody cares, that makes me happy...i never have to worry about how stupid i look!! hehe...also when we won Rookie All-Star in Mississauga...it was like wow...i couldn't believe it...and then we got to go to Atlanta and that weekend was one of the best weekends ever. I'm happy that i joined robotics at my school and i'm happy with what i've done and what i've learnt...i think it has changed me alot...in a good way!

I'd bet my house that 100% of all voters in this poll will vote yes. I mean seriously, I feel bad for the schools that have not yet discovered FIRST. No one would be on CD in the middle of the summer if they didn't absolutely love it. I've never missed anything to do with school so much. FIRST=euphoria

FIRST doesn't make me miserable, but it's not exactly all sunshine and roses, either. There are other things that make me far, far happier.

I'll bite... I said yes. The reasons why?

My students... seeing them grow, mature, learn something new, take initiative, or even when they have a bad day, and Im there for them, or I have a bad day, and they are there for me... They amaze me with their humbleness, their excitement, and their drive.

My mentors... having others that see FIRST the way I do, that get excited when students are inspired, that volunteer their own time because they believe in the ideals of FIRST (not because their bosses told them to, or because they get a day off from work, or anything else)... And they are my shoulders to lean on... when things get tough, even outside of work, I can always find an ear or someone to help me solve my problems.

My team... the families on our team are awesome, they pitch in for carwashes, they come up with new ideas, they make awesome food... And the thanks we get from them is just amazing... I think my favorite quote still comes from my 229 days, but thats still FIRST. I had a parent tell me about her senior "I have never seen my son SO excited about anything before!" That more than made my day!

FIRST is my second family, sometime even my first! Ive made some amazing friends, seen some amazing things, and above all, I love that we can make a difference, so yes FIRST=Happiness, why else would I do it?!?! :D

Does FIRST equal happiness? No. At least not directly. It's the elements of FIRST that can induce happiness. Among these are creation and socialization. Building with technology and possibly for the future makes some people happy. Meeting new people makes others happy. And even others like it just for the game. FIRST just happens to be the common medium.

FIRST itself doesn't make me happy. It's traveling to the competitions, taking pictures, putting my knowledge in game theory to good use, and chatting a bit with some friends, along with meeting new people that makes me happy.

A bit on the sour side: sadly, it's only a few times a year. Eh, I suppose that's what this place is for.

FIRST in its own right = happiness, no doubt, no if and or bots, I mean buts about it. The happiness is simply due to its EXISTENCE: a nerd like us creates an organization for nerds, and thus it becomes one happy organization.

Happiness for me comes from that fact and being with my team, out of my house, and in new territory. Not to say that life at home is bad, but any getaway from there is certainly welcome.

FIRST always makes me happy.. There are the few times where everything is just so stressful but then again it wouldn't be FIRST without the stress right? FIRST is one of the best things in my life and I would never change that!

Like naything in life there is good and bad and everyone has gone through it all in FIRST. They've been documented to death on these pages but in the overall blance of things I wouldn't trade my FIRST experiences for the world.

After being in FIRST for at least 2 full years, I have to say that FIRST has brought me alot of happiness. Even though all the stress and worries about the team (especially after this year for me) I love FIRST. It seems not a day goes by where I don't do a single thing somehow relating to FIRST. Just the fact that I feel like I'm making a difference somewhere though FIRST brings happiness to me.

FIRST has brought me to realize that the harder you fall the higher you bounce.

Being a part of FIRST robotics, has gotten me into situations that have challenged me both mentally and physically. It has helped me realize how I am as a person as well as how I deal with certain issues.

I have grown from my years in FIRST and am extremely grateful for the friends, the experiences, the lessons, and the mindset that I have been given through this program.

I don't think I would be happy if I didn't have FIRST.. So I guess that Life+nothing=boring, and Life+FIRST = Happiness, so subtract!

EDIT: I guess using this logic, I have no life.... And I can't find many people that would argue with that, so I guess the equation works!

This season, I looked at the sponsor wall at the Great Lakes Regional and for the first time ever in my four years in FIRST I saw numerous job opportunities for me after I get an associates or bachelor's degree. It just sort of lit up and struck me in a good way.

Every season, when I see competition and the spirit aroused from it all, I see a microcosm of the world economy, and its amazing. The creativity being the fruit of it all, makes it so much better. The ideas, the concepts, the ambition captured in a figurative battery.

Overall, I believe FIRST is the merger of life and work into the prettiest of all couples, making a thrilling and energizing experience, and thus I have to say, FIRST IS HAPPINESS indeed. :)

I personally believe have become a much better man thanks to the experiences here... and other places related to it, that is just how I feel. I cant seem to shake that thought loose.

And I have to agree with dave on this one, excellent thread to revive, even after 2 years.

Wow, its a resurrected thread! Although true, it should have never died.

FIRST = meeting new people who share your same interests
FIRST = seeing things you never would have thought up on your own
FIRST = Staying awake for 4 days of competition while pranking team members and running down stairs at full tilt to tell your team that you fixed the robot, then sleeping for 12 hours afterwards
FIRST = knowing things you never would have come into contact with
FIRST = seeing new sights
FIRST = Happiness

nope, I don't really feel anything else when I'm high on FIRST :rolleyes:
