If, when you intend to convey a the message that something is awe inspiring, you do not call it "FIRST"
IE, Correct: That atomic-powered, laser-guitar playing mecha-godzilla was AWESOME.
Incorrect: That atomic-powered, laser-guitar playing mecha-godzilla was FIRST.
Therefore FIRST does not equate to awesome

Barack Obama was voted president in 2008 but the title of President was not awarded to him until 2009.
Since you cant officially be declared "winner" until the title is awarded to you, he was not deemed "winner" of the presidency until 2009.
