Firefly on the Sci-Fi channel

Just letting all the people who've heard of the show that the Sci-Fi channel is airing the show friday nights. Both parts of the 2-part pilot are on tonight, along with an exclusive trailer for the movie. This all starts at 6pm.

For those who've never heard of it, Firefly is a sci-fi/western (the similarities to c.1875 are astounding) created by the maker of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. It takes place after a war in which people trying to break away from an ever expanding government get defeated. Years later, a couple of these Independents, along with a rag-tag crew, are just trying to make a living out in deep space, where the best planets only have cattle, farms, and some small towns. The FOX network aired it in 2002, and after horribly mistreating it (terrible timeslot, airing episodes out of order, preemption, airing the pilot last), cancelled it after 9 episodes. Luckily, there was still a huge fan following, and Universal bought the rights to make a movie (called Serenity, comes out September 30th). So the Universal-owned Sci-fi network is airing all the episodes at 7pm on fridays (with the exception of tonight, which is on at 6pm). And yes, this is my attempt to get more people watching.

For those people who already know all this, make yourself known! I can't be the only Browncoat on CD, can I?

My girlfriend (Sarah B) and I went to see Batman Begins and they had a trailer for Serenity. She got very excited and told me about Firefly. Now it's on Sci-Fi. That's pretty cool.

Honestly I'm not surprised. Fox mismanaging their TV serieses (serii)? That never happened before, right Family Guy, Dark Angel, Titus, Undeclared, Action, That 80's Show, Wonderfalls, Fastlane, Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Skin, Girls Club, Cracking Up, The Pits, Get Real, Freaky Links, Wanda At Large, Costello, The Lone Gunman, A Minute With Stan Hooper, Normal Ohio, Pasadena, Harsh Realm, Keen Eddy, The Street, American Embassy, Cedric The Entertainer, The Tick, Louis, and Greg The Bunny?

Actually.... Firefly was basically a disaster because of it's time slot. It basically tried competing with the SCIFI channel and Stargate. PS.... Series is plural to begin with.

The nice thing for Scifi is they add to their already prestiegous scifi fridays. Im curious, I never really watched firefly before so did scifi just by the rights and is reshowing the old episodes or are they different? Also is Scifi responcible for the production of Serenity?

Probably showing old shows. If I remember correctly two were never shown and the series wasn't even shown in the correct order.

Yeah, it's the episodes from 2002 (of which three weren't aired). What's nice though is that each week, they're giving us clips, interviews, and behind-the-scenes stuff from the movie. It gives me reason to watch it despite already owning the DVDs. The downside is that they won't get to the end of the series before the movie airs (which is sad, because the episode "Objects in Space" is very good, and leads into the movie). And Sci-Fi's owner Universal is producing the movie.

Sliders, Futurama, John Doe, Tru Calling, Point Pleasant, Jonny Zero... I'm fearful for the day FOX manages to destroy 24. In fact, 24 is the only reason I haven't boycotted the network altogether. Today's lesson: FOX = dark side. I guess that explains why they have Darth Vader though...

Plus side: tonight's episode is the episode that FOX decided to air first. It's a bit redundant, but you'll all love the ending.

Homer: "I just invested in something called News Corp."
Lisa: "Dad, that's FOX!"
Homer: "Ahh! Undo! Undo!"

Sadly, The Simpsons hasn't been good in over half a decade. That's an example of a show that's long length ruins the rest of it. You know, like the last three seasons of the X-Files.

This is somewhat off topic, but I'm betting there are enough Firefly fans out there to answer my question. I'm looking for a good source to buy Firefly/Serenity merchandise, such as shirts or hats. I have only been able to find some homegrown sites that I would be leery of buying from blindly. Can anyone help?
