Gunn Robotics Turmoil / SYNC Mag
"The First Rule of Robot Club is You Don't Talk About Robot Club"
- "Smart kids who built robots ruled the roost at Gunn High School -- Until the restraining orders were filed." (Magazine: Aug/Sept 2005 Number 8) The recent Gunn Robotics Team turmoil has been featured in a full 4 page article in the recent edition of SYNC Magazine. After a brief 5 min. overview the article gives a very detailed explination of what happened to this great robotics team. I'm tempted to scan this article, but don't believe it would be possible to post it here on Chief Delphi due to explicits in one of the quotes. If anyone is interested in this read or if any mods think it would be okay to blur the bad parts and post it let me know. |

I don't know if it's wise to air their dirty laundry on CD.
Perhaps we can retain some vestige of decency that's been lost in traditional media and respect the privacy of these folks? |

If people don't want a link posted publicly here that's fine, but you'll get a copy if you get a hold of me.

Re: Gunn Robotics Turmoil / SYNC Mag
While the whole privacy issue was relevant during the time of these events and for quite some time after, I don't think it's completely necessary anymore. Commenting on the article and such would not be a good idea since a lot of us actually knew people on GRT and things would probably get personal, but just letting people know that it's out there is fine.
If it was meant to remain completely private then there wouldn't be a four page article on it. That's my thinking anyway. |

OK gang, so far this is OK, but things turned pretty ugly last time we went down this road and out of respect for everyone involved, let's not comment or post reactions here after reading.

I'm not really sure what to say except, I really hope GRT makes a comeback for 2006!

Re: Gunn Robotics Turmoil / SYNC Mag
I'm glad this is being covered by a solid news outlet like SYNC. I'm sure we can expect only the highest journalistic standards from this "SYNC" magazine with such hard-hitting and insightful features as:
"Backstage at the club, away from brass poles and grabby patrons, exotic hotties chat about life, love ... And tech." I don't know where else I'd turn for the only tech industry commentary worth a $@#$@#$@#$@#, that of "exotic hotties". "Stuff for a man's life " - What a fantastic motto! What we need in America is a publication that is unfraid to tell the truth: Women have no interest in technology. Oh Nooo. Except those "exotic hotties". If my eyes rolled any harder they'd fall out. |

"Oh. My. God. If that skeezy DJ plays 'Live and Let Die' one more time, I'm going to lose it. I need to calm my nerves with a little Norah Jones from my 4GB mini Rocbox. The removable battery lasts 10 hours, and the silver and black styling is way sexy, don't you think? Its 1,000-song library is the only thing that keeps me from putting a stiletto heel through that metalhead's temple." Because I'm sure a person would candidly say that  |

Re: Gunn Robotics Turmoil / SYNC Mag
A google search for "Gunn High School Robotics" turned up this 2 pagish story from a slightly more reputable source.
http://www.siliconvalley.com/mld/sil...s/11013912.htm This story makes me very sad, I hope that the team will be able to come back next year. |
