Pre Game ritual

Hey I was wondering if any team had a pre game ritual or chant they did before each match. Like a sports team or something. On Miss Daisy we all get in huddle and I get in the middle then we start to sway ( we stole this from the basketball team lol) and then I start asking what time is in and everyone replys Game time, this goes on untill i cant talk usually and then everyone goes wild. I was wondering if anyone else had a pre game ritual because stuff like that is so cool and works to get your team pumped.

Re: Pre Game ritual

Well when I was on HOT it was actually a post match chant and we did a "Who's HOT" "We're HOT" cheer for every match that we had won that day or regional, depending.

On 1504, well, I was just happy that we made it on the field for some of our matches lol

Re: Pre Game ritual

1293's usually involves some hollering and waving of arms to get the team to queue. ;)

Oh, and we make sure our rubber bands are in place. (Our arm was held up by it, then the team number would spring forward somewhat, knocking it down and moving the rubber band out of the way.)

This year when they announced our team on the field we did the "fire" dance our team mascot made up this year.

well on S.P.A.M. it's always the cheers and all...

this year we started our check list idea.. so we wouldn't forget to do stuff.. the pit check then stage check...

Re: Pre Game ritual

Well, let's see...usually we (drivers, me, and HP) just lean on opposite sides of the robot in the queueing area and have a sort of pre-match pep talk type thing.

Or...we just listen to James going (high-pitched voice) "What time is it? It's peanut butter jelly time!"

PREgame, I gave my hat to the base driver.
ALMOST START OF GAMR
when they announced our team, i ripped off the breakaways i wore :ahh: :D :D (and tossed them to the coach)

Re: Pre Game ritual

Once the match preceding ours is over we put our hats on.
We do a chant with hands in the middle of "SAFETY GLASSES SAVE LIVES!"
I go do a couple obsessive compulsive things with the controls.... just because if I don't we will lose... horribly :p
During auto-mode the coach and operator and I pound fists.

In that order that is pre-match for the Tigertron Drive team.

//edit
I really want to start doing a chant of:
"FOUR ON THReE... READY?? ONE TWO THREE FOUR!!"

Re: Pre Game ritual

Some times we chant 10-0-2, 10-0-2. or Cir-cuit-run-ners. We also sotle a chant from our Bball team. One or two people yell out GAME TIME, then the rest of the people yell our GAME TIME. This can go on for a very long time.

we had our coach lick the robot before each match, it was good luck. He missed it once, and we lost... so we made sure he did it each time then.

Everyone on our team just clasps their hands over their head and yells "OOOOOOOOOO!". It makes sense really, when you have at least 5 0's in your name, you might as well let everyone else know your pride ;)

The Technokats this year had a beloved non-actual soul in our robot. His name you might ask? EL JORGE!!!!!!!! So, heres a crash course on how to properly do the pre-match 45 chant. "1....2....3 ELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORGE!!!!!!" During eliminations we tried to get our alliances involved. And as always, EL JORGE WANTS YOU!

You mean this thread, as opposed to the single thread starting post? :D

At the capital clash, we did:
"birds on three, 'birds on three 1, 2,3, 'BIRDS!"
I think I suprised my team with how loud I could scream...

Re: Pre Game ritual

We've got a couple of traditions on Team 1114. The first is the "Ric Flair" chant. It's something that I've always done, that's caught on with the entire team. After I'm finished giving some sort of speech, I'll yell out "and in the words of Ric Flair..." and the rest of the team and myself respond "wooooooooooo". This past season it was led by Derek or myself before every match.

The other tradition which is only really done when I'm field coaching is my bird impersonations. It's one of those wonderful things that you really need to witness to understand, but they're quite accurate impersonations... Kacaw.... ;)

Re: Pre Game ritual

Team 662 went with the Rambo theme, (You all know the Rambo, right? That one guy with the bandanna and the explosive arrows?) Anyways so the entire team had some blue and red bandannas and just before our match we'd all done the color of the team we were on and start screaming some cheers, we were always on the floor when our team went up. We were one of the loudest teams there, as evidenced by everyone's sore voices by finals.

Re: Pre Game ritual

On MOE we always do the MOE cheer
We do it before the match, after the match during the match walking to and from the match basically we do it all the time.

Re: Pre Game ritual

well usually i just start dancing around like an idiot and depending on the mood of the other driver and the hp, we might start some kind of disco-boogy-funk-off, other than that its usually quiet and anticipation

Re: Pre Game ritual

hmmm.... we always have a chant. Last year it was this OH WAAY OH WAAY... ect. We created one this year for next season, Oak ton robots! We rock the Lanctots! (we got a pair of crazy twins called the Lanctots! Great guys both of them! Kinda like our internal team mascots.) Go ohmies! Go ohmies! We also made a giant Ohm symbol in the stands!! :D OH AND THE BEST ONE YET!! We had a kid who was great at break dancing! I posted a movie and pictures somewhere but he left and i don't think we have anybody else to fill in... :( The nice thing is our team is pretty visable (large numbers + black/lime shirts = lots of recognition)

Re: Pre Game ritual

Back when I was on 71, thre two drivers, HP, and one coach would stand in a circle with both hands in the middle. The three kids would start jumping up and down while the HP (usually) would give a pre-match pep talk. He'd go over the goals of the match or whatever. At the end he'd give a "Team on 3...1..2...3...TEAM" as we all stopped jumping and threw our hands down. Then everyone would pound fists with everyone else and take positions. In eliminations, we would get all three teams in the huddle, go through the pep talk, and do the big "TEAM on 3" before going into our jumping huddle.

Sometimes the rest of the team would split into two groups on the side of the field and have a "Yeah" ware. The two sides would alternate, "YEAH....YEAH...YEAH...YEAH....YEAH...YEAH...YEAH. ..YEAH..." and everyone together would end with an, "OH YEAH!!!" Those could get quite loud.

lol yes, don't forget about us, we liked the impressions too! :)

our "chant" is usually done a the start of a match, when they are announcing the team numbers. when they say 1503 "spartonics!" we do a "1,2,3 SPARTEK" kinda thing. Spartek is the name of our robot.

Normally We all chant "Who are we?" "Harmony"

Like 20 Times because last year no one knew us and we did excellent.

AcePilot 19-09-2005 12:33

Re: Pre Game ritual

Our team ritual was to get everybody into the pit, or to take all of the members into our section of the bleachers and Give a "1, 2, 3, PANTHERS!"

Me personally as a driver, my ritual was to slam a red bull before every match, which I would highly discourage. You figure sometimes you have 6 matches in one day, and they can be pretty close together. We had 2 matches right in a row, and all I can remember is that I kept screwing up because I couldn't keep my hand still or straight on the controls.

Re: Pre Game ritual

On our Vex team, Mini-Stang, a few other members of the drive team and I used to do the Good luck dance... that was basically us waving with our palms out and screaming "DO THE GOOD LUCK DANCE" to eachother. It didn't help much though.

Re: Pre Game ritual

The coolest pre-match ritual in FIRST is the Huskie Brigade "1...2...3... PIT!"

You just have to experience it to understand. ;)
Maybe someone from 65 will elaborate.

Re: Pre Game ritual

Last year, ours was basically a pep talk from Johnny V. But John definitley got us going before each match, "Deep breaths, calm thoughts, point at Copioli and the Thunderchickens drive team... and DON'T SMILE." Actually, we would just go through our strategy for the match and listen to a short speech by John.

MChapman 22-09-2005 18:21

Re: Pre Game ritual

Team 176 drive team had 2 baseballs with names written on them that each drive member would catch before a match. lol But we would go over our stratagy and relax before our match.
