NSTA, NCTM Conventions in Hartford

If you are attending the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) or National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) eastern regional conventions in Hartford in October, look for the FIRST demos. We are scheduled to be at NCTM on the morning of Thursday, October 6, and at a date still to be determined (Oct 20 or 21) for NSTA. Both conventions will be held in the new Connecticut Convention Center, home to the UTC New England Regional next March!

I am looking forward to both of the conferences! :D Team 228 is proud to be able to attend both of these, to demonstrate Vex robotics. We will be there with three team members and with my Vex robot (and all the mini triple play components) and possibily our team's Vex robot. Also, as far as I know, Birds of Prey Team 181 will have their 2005 FRC robot there as well. It should be a cool time for everyone there.

We will also have an FLL demo courtesy of the Andover, CT team.

FRC Team 173 RAGE will be on hand at the NSTA convention later in October.
FIRST Senior Mentor Steve Cremer and Regional Director Brad Lauer will also be joining us.

I'm excited about the opportunity to spread the message of the FIRST programs to science and math teachers in this area and look forward to seeing everyone at the new convention center!

FIRST will be represented at NSTA in the Exhibition Hall on Thursday October 20, Friday October 21 and Saturday, October 22. If you're planning a trip to the convention, be sure to stop by and say hello.

I'm looking forward to being there tomorrow for the NSTA Convention! I talked to a bunch of the science teachers at my school and told them to look for us when they go. And I'll have my Vex robot for all three days of the event (But with only one goal to save space). BTW, According to Mapquest, by the end of this month, my Vex robot will have traveled over 1,202 miles!

I still have a hard time figuring out which is better - promoting FIRST or being away from school. Wait, now that I think about it, promoting FIRST is better. Much better. :p

Update - we have a larger space now, so plan on bringing all the goals! :) For those of you who haven't been to this new venue, it is gorgeous! We had a tour tonight and it will be a fantastic location for the UTC New England Regional!

I had a lot of fun today meeting tons of teachers from all over the country - many who are involved in one of FIRST's programs or whose schools are involved, and many who were introduced to this fantastic program today. A big thank you to RAGE for demoing their FRC bot and to GUS for bringing us two Vex bots to play together, and to Ogre for explaining the FLL program over and over again. This was so much fun I think we should do it all over again tomorrow! And Saturday, too!
P.S. Never bring a science teacher mentor to a Science Teacher convention exhibit hall. Like putting a kid in a candy store! :)
