Change, while not always embraced by all, is a universal constant. The evolution of the logo is fundamentally the same as the evolution of the game. How many of you on FRC teams would like to still be playing with Vex-sized robots on a 10' by 10' field? FRC has changed in both quantity (field size, number of teams, number of events, etc.) and quality - why shouldn't the logo change as well?

I have to agree with the sentiment that FIRST is trying to protect their logo and name with this new change. We are one of the teams guilty of folding, spindling and mutilating the official FIRST logo for our team logo. Ours, like many other teams who did it, was an attempt to directly link our team with FIRST and promote both our team and the larger community of FIRST. Perhaps this year it is time for a change for us as well.

IIRC, there was a rather lengthy list of what you could and couldn't do with the logo well before the new one was released.

After looking back at all my random FIRST publications, and anything with the logo on it, I much prefered the old school logo. It looked more professional to me (albeit less catchy, which is probably what FIRST was shooting for this time around).

I'm not going to go out on a limb and say whether I think the change itself was good or not. But I will say that, after all this time, I still much prefer the shape of the old logo. The new one seems much more cartoonish to me than the old one, which definitely looks like it could be a physical object. I just can't imagine actually building something that looks like the new logo.

ahahah all to true. I know first hand about lawyers both from my parents divorse and the fact I tape concerts and have to give them back to the artist management which eventually finds its way back to record lables and so on and so on.

I still like the old logo. When I look at that one compared to the current one, the old logo said "robotics." The new one says something within the range of NASCAR and something else, I cannot figure out what. It certainly does not say robotics, however.
