Worst Movie Ever

I wasn't really intending to make this into a thread where everyone posts the worst movie they've ever seen (although I guess it's alright) but instead to discuss a movie I just wasted an hour of my time on.

Has anyone seen the 2003 movie Elephant? OMG what kind of sick @#$& director/producer/writer would even consider making such a thing!?!? This was about the worst story I have ever seen in a film production. Not to mention it had several camera shots over 30 seconds long and half of them were of the back of someone's head and a quarter of them were so blurry they'd make you nauseous to look at and the dialog and acting was pure amateur. But my main gripe is really the story, I never want to have to watch that again. I'd not an "all Disney all the time" type of movie watcher but I think this movie just takes it a little too far. I watch CSI three times a week, I've watched movies where whole cities are obliterated in an instant, and I don't mind it at all. But this Elephant movie really got to me. Treating human lives like a few pixels on the screen of a video game, just awful. I think movies that analyze the mind of a psycho person are interesting, but although I can't put my finger on it, something about this movie was just plain wrong and I didn't walk away from this movie with a good feeling at all.

After watching this, I'm sorry I own a TV and I'm sorry I pay extra for movie channels. That movie was really quite disturbing.

So, hopefully someone else has seen it and is with me on this one.

And for all of you who enjoy playing arcade games like Time Crisis and whatnot, I encourage you to watch this movie and maybe then you'll think again. I think PacMan eating little dots will do just fine for me.

Is that the movie you were talking about? Elephant? It sounds familiar, what pay channel was it on? If it was on Showtime I may have seen part of it.
It looks like an independant film maker just trying to make a film about columbine and trying to cash in on the public's voyeuristic tendancy to know about tragedy..
(Titanic Anyone?? - I liked that movie, just an example lol)

But if you want a movie about that type of incident (school shootings, and bullying, and other kinds of teen angst and HS drama) that will make you think, seriously go watch the movie "Bang, Bang, You're Dead"
That movie was like... Whoa...
It also wasn't "Disneyesque" so it's not for everyone, but Middle schoolers, and HSers could benefit from watching it from a perspective of our reality which may and can take place in your school nowadays.

Anyways.. tragedy's aside (besides box offfice totals), I fell asleep in the movie theaters watching Battlefield Earth..
Horrible role for Travolta, and just a horrible movie overall.
I watched about a half hour, woke up to a planet blowing up, and was like.. what did I miss, and I look over and 2 other people I was with were asleep too..
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0185183/

Horrible, Horrible movie..

Oh, and for fear of getting all the red dots in the world for reputation, I thought Monty Python and The Holy Grail was borderline bad as well.
It had one funny part. The bunny rabbit. That's about it.
Fell asleep watching that too. Woke up, and the people I was with made me watch that rabbit scene. That made it worth my little time I spent awake watching it.

My personal least favorite movie was Barber Shop. I honestly thought the screen could've been left blank and I would've been more amused. That aside, I think my favorite comedy would be The Notebook....

It seems like most people liked Elephant.

However, there were 100 other movies that made the bottom 100 list.

I'm a little surprised Starship Troopers 2 didn't make it up (down?) there. That movie should get bad ratings just for being bad. Then the ratings should be lowered for desecrating its awesome parent movie. I couldn't believe how bad it was. I didn't think that someone would put in so much energy to make such a bad movie. Didn't they realize how bad it was before they released it?

Tristan Lall 18-10-2005 01:31

Re: Worst Movie Ever

Starship Troopers (the first) wasn't so fantastic either. ("Oh look, an asteroid is about to flatten the starship. Let's wait until the last possible second to actually try to dodge it, because we've got Denise Richards piloting the ship."...crash!)

And a bonus: Trail of the Pink Panther was a travesty. Old clips of Peter Sellers (who, by this point, was actually deceased) strung together without a plot. This is one that my parents rented in my youth, and I never forgave them for it. (Do you see a pattern emerging?)

I seriously saw this movie like 4 times, unfortunately.

I fell asleep as soon as I got on one flight, and wokeup partway through the movie. I didn't have anything else to do, so I watched it.

Then at a later date, I was reading a magazine or something on another flight, and I figured I'd watch it just because I don't like seeing half a movie. Only problem was I started watching like 10 minutes before where I started the first time.

And then finally, on another flight, I saw the whole thing.

All in all, I thought it was lame. And then ending was lame too. Everyone I know cried when they saw it. I was like "cool, they died together, and she finally remembered".

You don't know bad until you've seen Manos:the Hands of Fate, roughly meaning-

Hands: the Hands of fate.First off it was written and directed by a FERTILIZER

SALESMAN. It starts with a nine minute driving scene which, all in all, serves no

purpose in the movie. It was even a magazine article (Entertainment Weekly) as

the worst movie of all time. Sadly, the first time I watched it I did not see the MST3K

version and swore I would never see it again. Now after about 10 times watching it

(With the MST3K version) I still have yet to find a plot or find out what Torgo is

supposeds to be (a goat man of some sort I've heard?)

Cory, I couldn't last 1 min 30 sec of Napoleon Dynamite.

Tristan, again we disagree (surprised?) Starship Troopers is the best B movie ever made.

Worst movie ever, and I bought it, Sandra Bullock (I'm in love) in Hangmen. I am really glad I bought it though because now I have a reference point for the ultimately worst movie. After I show it to people they change their minds on bad movies.

I must agree with Napoleon Dynamite, my son conned me into watching it this weekend and it was a toss up which was going to drive me screaming mad first. Watching another minute of the movie or installing WINXP.

Then I take it that none of you has ever actually sat through either "Star Slammer" or "Eegah." The former was characterized as "cheap and relentlessly stupid" - and that was from the director! The latter is one of the most infamous pieces of crap ever captured on celluloid - Richard Kiel's greatest embarrassment. These films cause actual physical pain when watched.

Re: Worst Movie Ever

I think I have to toss in a chip for "Wedding Crashers". It was unnecessarily lewd and remarkably uningenious considering the (usually) great cast of comedians that were involved in the project. Making people so uncomfortable that they are forced to blush and squeak out bawdy laughs just isn't the way that humor is supposed to operate.

"Titanic" also goes on my own "never to be seen again" list. I didn't want to see it when I was 10 and I sure don't want to see it now. Taking amazing footage and reconstruction of a ship and tossing a cheesy love story into it just doesn't cut it for me.

In all honesty, the less obscenity and the more sight humor, the better the film. Sorry to butt heads with you once again Cory, but I loved "Napoleon Dynamite" and "Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail" both very much. Yes, they start slowly, but the way I see it, it is the fine details that count.

Okay, first. I have to say that I like a lot of bad movies, movies such as "Toxic Avenger" and "Class of Nuke em' High", and "Death Race 2000"... they're fun to watch! But some movies just should not have been made, like "Abraxas: Guardian of the Universe", which had that wrestler, Jesse Ventura as the star. Worse acting ever. And then there's this horror movie from 1972 called "Pigs," which is about some pigs who got loose and ate a passed out drunk in a field and have craved human flesh ever since, a delicacy their owner decides to provide them with. The pigs were the best actors in that movie.

There were several movies that came out in the early 70's that apparently were designed to make the audience puke. They started a trend: when you got your tickets they handed you barf bags.

I cant remember any of the titles off hand. One was about the torture used in the middle ages, others were slasher films.

I never went to see any of them, but a few of my friends did. Ill bet if you saved those barf bags you could sell them now on ebay for a lot of $$$.

OK: Google is my friend today. one was called 'mark of the devil'

EDIT: I found a less,umm... objectional review of the movie:

Spinal Tap? !!!!!!

that movie is a classic. Many people thought it was a documentary about a real band, and one band (I forget which one) thought the movie was about them, and threatened to sue Rob Reiner.

Spinal tap = pure genius (but you have to keep in mind, its a fine line between genius and stupidity).

on a scale of 1 to 10, Tap goes to 11 :^)

We watched it in our documentary class... the teacher thought it was real when it came out too. It is a really good format and filming but still really really bad.

Re: Worst Movie Ever

"This Is Spinal Tap" is an absolute classic! I saw it when it originally came out in theatres, and it was a riot. But then I saw it again when it came out on video, and I watched it at my mother's. She was one of those that was convinced that it was a real documentary about a real band. I haven't let her in on the joke yet (and that was 15 years ago). :)

Anyway, back to the topic of the thread. How about "Hercules in New York" for a real mood-killer. This was Arnold Schwarzenegger's first movie, and he is titled as "Arnold Strong." The director thought his accent was so thick that it would never be understood by American audiences, so they did a voice-over for all his lines. Now that we all know what he actually sounds like, this makes the whole thing hilarious - until you realize just how bad the film actually is, and then it is just sad.

they really should release that movie with Arnolds real voice put back in - wouldnt that be a riot?

a Greek god with an austrian accent?

"Aphroditie is calmning - shes calming here and shes going to kill us awl - we have to get owt, nhow!"

BTW, if you have the DVD you MUST watch Tap with the band commentary track turned on - almost rates as a sequel.

2005's King Kong strikes me as one of the worst movies of all time. I was there with some friends and we all were about to go buy some candy to throw at the screen or ask the managers for our money back because by far that is one of the most horrible, boring, slowest 3 hour movies I have ever seen.

It's not even worth considering IMO.

Re: Worst Movie Ever

For somebody who doesn't know or understand the music scene in the late 70s/early 80s, This Is Spinal Tap would be very slow, dull, and confusing. There are so many inside jokes.
As far as who it's lampooning, the Stonehenge/midget thing could be construed as poking fun at Jethro Tull or Aerosmith, but primarily Black Sabbath; there were numerous Led Zeppelin references (I am a golden god, the Red Snapper, bowing the guitar, etc); the Smell the Glove album cover was inspired by Whitesnake; Queen, Motley Crue, and Def Leppard are among the others blasted. Pure genius, but without context, pure drivel.

And the only things worse than Napoleon Dynamite are Titanic, The Whole Ten Yards, and Saving Silverman. Finally, while The Whole Nine Yards was fantastic, TWTY was horrible (with apologies to Kevin Pollack).

Re: Worst Movie Ever

I can't really think of any awful moves I've seen lately, but there are a few underrated movies that have come out that are awesome. Idiocracy is one of them - Mike Judge's movie, starring Luke Wilson and Mya Rudolph of SNL. Really quite good, about a guy who gets frozen and wakes up 500 years in the future where intelligence has dropped significantly and, even though he was considered average in his time, he is the smartest man alive in 2505.

Another one is Smokin' Aces. If you like a shoot em' up action movie, go see this ASAP.

Lastly, if you like corny cheesy B movies, rent a classic - Army of Darkness. Bruce Campbell is a god among actors.

I'm genuinely surprised.

To Kill a Mocking bird is considered not only a classic in literature but also in film. Both the book and the movie are some of the most significant works on race in America, and even on parenting. It is perhaps the greatest performance by Gregory Peck, and he had plenty of great roles. The movie resulted in several academy awards and golden globes, and many more nominations.

The film adaptation is good, but the book is much more nuanced. It is the quintessential American Novel (and Haper Lee the most noted literary 'one hit wonder). I've read it three times, and each time I notice another little detail- I don't think there is a wasted word in the book. I can understand how it might be arduous to read in school in small little bits over weeks, but I really hope you come back to it again later on. It really is one of the most important books you'll ever read.

Re: Worst Movie Ever

I think the worse movie I have ever seen would have to be An Epic Movie. I cant believe it cost 8 bucks. A close second would be Ghost Rider... I thought it was more comical than anything.... Nicholas Cage's body was way too built for his own good and the hair and eyes... over the top. Dont forget the lovely wardrobe that Eva Mendez wore....

Re: Worst Movie Ever

No contest, it is CRANK. My friends had me watch it a awhile ago and I was so upset I wanted to bang my head against a wall. A close second is a tie between Airplane 2 and Caddyshack 2, completely unneeded and not even in the same league as the originals.

Re: Worst Movie Ever

I would like to suggest a few rules for this game.
Just a few simple rules to keep it valid.

-Be sure to actually have watched the movie before declaring it, "The Worst Movie Ever." Basing your opinion entirely off of other's information is not a good way to go.
-Be sure to have watched the entire movie, missing 5-10 mins is okay. Yet, if you only saw the first/last 5-10 minutes of a movie, there is no way you can rate it as, "The Worst Movie Ever."
-Do not simply state it is the, "The Worst Movie Ever" and not provide valid reasons as to why you consider it to be so bad.
-A valid reason is not that you hate the actor, director, or the prequel/sequel, etc.

Re: Worst Movie Ever

Romeo and Juliet. Specifically the Leonardo DiCaprio version. You'd think they'd modernize the dialog since they modernized the setting. THEY DIDN'T. Having a gang war scene with guys talking like they're still in medieval times = ultimate fail. Never, ever watch this abomination of a movie.

Also, the DOA movie looks like it is made of suck. They used an American actor for Kasumi I believe which is total FAIL. Not that I would care anyway about it :P

Mercury Rising, thank you for posting rules. I hope everyone abides by them.

Well hang on a second. I saw the movie once a long time ago before I read Romeo and Juliet and I thought it was comical, but still stupid. But then I watched it again a few years later, after I had read the book, and this time it was tolorable, and definitely not the WORST movie I've ever seen. There was a reason behind using the original script yet making the setting modern; it draws parrellelisms with the universality of the themes between the fueding families, and... I'm just going to stop there. There's no reason I should bring analysis that belongs in my IB English class into the Chief Delphi forums. But yeah, it wasnt exactly the best of movies, but perhaps the word "abomination" is too harsh. People are allowed to have different interpretations of Shakespeare, and Romeo + Juliet was just that.

To put my 2-cents in for the worst movie I've ever seen, it would have to be Event Horizon. I rented it looking for something interesting, and when I saw the title I figured it had something to do with the event horizon in astrophysics terms (you know, the point of no return when you're entering a black hole, theoretically). It turned into a psychological suspence mystery extreme horror film with waaaay too much blood and gore in the end, to the point where it was just incoherent. I have a friend who watched it with me and said it was the biggest waste of his time ever. I have another friend who is terrified of the movie; its the only one that gives him nightmares. I guess I'm somewhere inbetween. But anyways, it all depends on the person.

Not sure if this has been said before, though The Wicker Man was possibly the mosth horrible movie I've seen. Ever.

I saw this movie based on the preview, which portrayed the movie as being 'not so bad', in my view.

]]Spoilers[[

It turned out to be a no plot movie, with our good friend Mr. Cage running around screaming at people. It turns out he just dies at the end of the movie. I'd have to say the best part of that movie was the credits... But that's just me.

A few recommendations:

Nacho Libre (as much as I didn't like Napoleon Dynamite, this one was so much worse, even though I love Jack Black)

The Transporter (at least Crank was supposed to be ridiculous!)

Anything by John Carpenter, unless it stars Kurt Russell. I felt so cheated after seeing Ghosts of Mars, and I never paid a cent for it!

This is ironic. I just watched this movie about an hour ago for the first time. I second... it was pretty bad.

I agree with Napolian Dynomite, but have any of you seen either the toxic avenger or death race 2000? Those were real winners too.....

Re: Worst Movie Ever

Haven't even finished it yet, but my worst would DEFINITELY be the MTV version of Wuthering Heights- my English class is taught by a 23-year-old, so she's really fun like that. She found it on Netflix, got it, found it was hilariously bad, and so we're watching it. It's so terribly over-modernized, and none of my class thinks anyone will understand it if they haven't read the book.

Re: Worst Movie Ever

Napoleon Dynamite? TERRIBLE FILM!!! I was having trouble identifying which parts were supposed to be funny!

Mommie Dearest: horrible! Faye Dunaway's performance (which I enjoyed, but won her a Razzie) actually almost makes it worthwhile.

But, The Hitcher (2007 version) takes the cake. Bad writing, directing, acting. It was just... :( :( :ahh:  :o You know what I mean?

Hmm... best movie ever: Little Miss Sunshine. (Ok, ok, so I've never seen any of the classics. Citizen Kane isn't exactly always on, all right?) I loved Little Miss Sunshine, though. Go see it.

Well.. I think the Best (only because of the Bikes/Cars) And two worst movies (awful acting/plot lines) are:

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
Torque

Both amazing movies for the stunt driving, and Torque rocks only because of so.. many.. bikes.. :D

Re: Worst Movie Ever

The Lord of the Flies movie was horrible. I liked the book but the movie was just abysmal. Half the time it seemed like there wasn't any good acting at all. My English class watched it and found it really cheesy and b-grade, not to mention rather funny (at parts that were supposed to be tragic, ironically)

Also, the documentary Jesus Camp was terrible, not because of the acting/work done on it but because of the way the sect of Christianity shown in the film works (kids are practically being forced to be Christians). I'm not an atheist but that movie was definitely scary in more than one way.

Re: Worst Movie Ever

The Bad:
Babel (blah blah blah...2+ hours of wasted culture shocks)
A Scanner Darkly (I liked it, but to the average watcher it was hard to follow)
Hollywoodland (wow, Adrian Brodie good...movie sucked)
Miami Vice (T..E..R..R..I..B..L..E)
Nacho Libre (nothing beats JB dancing in tights...oh wait, yes there is)
Rocky Balboa (cmon, seriously...Stalone almost needed a walker and geritol to get in the ring)
The Matador (Peirce Brosnan is a slimebag, perfect role for this movie...but just too simple)
Harry Potter(s) (I think anything with the name "hogwarts" should be condemned)
Grease (I just never liked it at all)
Flags of our Fathers (good movie but the scenes were too "jumpy" I had a hard time following along)
Go (I have this dvd, and wish it stayed on the shelf)
Island of Dr. Moreau (this piece of garbage scared the crap out of me for a long time)
Wizard of Oz (never liked it, the monkeys scared me)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (both new & old)
Anything with Hugh Grant (because he's in the SAME role in every movie)
Likewise with Richard Gere (two words, "pretty woman")
And also Russel Crowe (except in a beautiful mind)

The Good:

300 (get up right now and go see it, A-mazing)
The Number 23 (so it got bad reviews, I thought it was a very good look into psychosis of the 23 enigma)
Little Miss Sunshine (I think this movie will be remembered for a while)
Tenacious-D: The Pick Of Destiny (this is a cult CLASSIC-to-be)
The Departed (A++)
The Guardian (good flick)
The Marine (ok, it was cheap and cheesy, but it's a total DUDE movie)
Stranger than Fiction (FINALLY, a role Will Ferrell pulls off without making it stupid)
The Pursuit of Happyness (Saw this opening night, great movie...truley inspiring)
Beerfest (great great great! *however I don't encourage drinking*)
Clerks 2 (great sequel to the first)
Crank (I LOVE JASON STATHAM!)
Click (FINALLY, Adam Sandler is doing serious movies *see Reign over me*)
Gridiron Gang (fantastic movie, I was suprised)
The longest Yard (hysterical)
Lucky Number Slevin (good "who-dun-it" movie)
MI:3 (supringly made the list, but it was decent)
Night at the Museum (this was just a good. clean, fun movie...plus Dick Van-Dyke is in it!)

Re: Worst Movie Ever

I know a lot of you are young and to be forgiven for not yet testing the true depths of movie badness. A really bad movie has to be bad in all areas: acting, script, lighting, editing, story line, art direction, costumes and sound. It helps if it features bad acting from otherwise decent actors. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Nightfall, a film adaptation (and I only use the term because I can't think of one that actually applies) of the classic eponymous science fiction short story by Isaac Asimov. Link on IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095738/.

It features ravens pecking out the eyes of living people. It features weird editing jumps that make no sense. The script is tedious, the acting wooden, the lighting muddy, and the soundtrack indescribably bad. Really, really awful. I wrote this review in IMDB in 1999:

"I actually paid money to see this in its mercifully brief theatrical release in 1988. The (tiny) audience had fun ad libbing dialogue that was much better than that provided the hapless actors. The film is bad in so many ways that it is difficult to pick out the worst element. Was it the art direction? The acting? The dialogue? The cinematography? The costumes? The plot? The editing? The music? In the end I think the worst thing is that it will probably insure that no decent film will ever be made of Asimov's Nightfall.

"The good doctor wrote that he had never seen the movie, and that he had nothing to do with it. This probably added a couple of years to Asimov's life.

"I can only say that the other reviewers here at IMDb have been far too generous. This film is worse than you can imagine."

My choice for worst movie ever is a toss-up. The Comebacks and Saw 4 are both garbage. I have so many horrible things to say about them that I won't even get started.

The worst performance in the history of film is probably Cary Elwes in Saw. He's British, and he forgets halfway through the film that his character is supposed to be American. What ensues is the shakiest accent hybrid of all time. It's hilarious.
