quick question as a newbie
hey, im new to FIRST robotics, on team 25, at north brunswick township high school, and today attended my first competitionat duel on the delaware. i was jst wondering, when they show the ranking, what does "average rp" mean?
thanks! :) |
Re: quick question as a newbie
RP stands for ranking points. If I remember correctly, you get 2 points for a win, 1 for a tie, and 0 for a loss.
In the qualifying match standings, you are ranked into "tiers" by how many "ranking points" you have. Then you are ranked by what your average "match points" are witch is the score of the losing alliance. So, first, it is most important to win. Then it is important for your opponents to score highly (but not so high that they beat you) |

Re: quick question as a newbie
dont slam me if im wrong here, but your ranking points are, if you lose, 0. if you win, it is your opponents score. that is how its done in first. i know, just like the league i'm in now, the scoring is different in other offseason leagues

The rules for awarding Qualifying Points and Ranking Points have evolved over the years. Excerpted from The 2005 Manual, Section 8.3.3:

Ranking points are the same as a win loss record in other sports, FIRST just assigns points to help simplify calculations. Match or qualifying points are the tie breakers, If you score 100 points and your opponent scores 10 then you get 2 RP and 10 qualifying or match points, your opponent gets 0 rp but still gets those 10 match points, this means that even though your very strong alliance was able to score 100 points another team that won 26 to 25 is in much better shape than you are in overall standings. |

Re: quick question as a newbie
ok to end all confusion:
RP is "Round Points". You take your opponents score and that is the tiebreaker after overall win-loss-tie. So if my record is 4-4-1 and another team is 4-4-1, the team whos opponent on average scores the most points is the leader. |
