[OCCRA]: what you thought of today

howd you like it? how was it? how was the level of the competition? did you want to revise your design/strategy? how? why? were you satisfied with the results you got? did your robot accomplish what it was meant to do? what did you think you needed to improve on? do you like this year's game? do you regret some choices you did during build or strategizing?

Well I think the game is awesome. I think the robots that i seen were pretty cool. But i was kind of bummed that it was over so quick. it seemed like it went sooo fast. I think that is pretty crappy but what can we do. I was disappointed in the fact that my robot did not perform at all but that is life and we learned a lot from it. We have some pretty big kinks to work out but once we do...we should be pretty good.

I had a lot of fun even though it got pretty frustrating not being able to perform. But there is one thing i would like to say about this competition....THE PLACEBO IS AWESOME!!!!!!

Hope to see every one at the next comp.

It was interesting to see how many methods had been created to pick up balls from the floor, and I think the game was interesting to play. In comparison to the 2005 FIRST game, there are many more objectives in this game and it is more entertaining to watch.

Even though i did not get to watch really any of the matches, besides the ones were were in cue for, i think this is a great game. It is fast passed, offensively minded, and strait forward. Great game design the parents from our team who came to see understood the game and pretty much understood what was going on after one match.

Personally i am very happy. Are team did very well. We came out of the comp with out any major problems. We found somethings that we have to change. The whole thing was a lot of fun and I am looking forward to the next one.

I thought it was kinda sad how many matches were decided by human player's ability to throw into the tower, but that got better as it went on. The game itself is good though, once teams learn to play it better (that includes my own team).

As far as my team personally goes, we had a few problems but hopefully they will be worked out soon. Also, the random match list didn't work out in our favor, as we ended up against 469 three times, but that's the luck of the draw.

Thursday should be exciting :-)

well you better hope you wont be against us 3 times this thursday :D
i didnt like how the red balls seemed to get stuck within the little square between the two racks and the "randomizing?" bar thing. noone even attempts to get those. even with an arm. not worth the trouble i guess. and whats this about NOONE going to descore!!!!! we need to rethink our strategy now.

I thought it was great, it is my first year in OCCRA, and I love it, even being the Placebo bot. This years OCCRA field had so much more then the 05 FIRST design, there was a lot more to do, and more ways to do it. Plus balls are always more fun then tetras, tetras cause to many problems :] . Anyways I thought it was great and can't wait till next year when we can compete fully against all of you :D . Until then, See you thursday and Good luck to all the teams, and remember if luck isn't on your side, we are always there to help you ;)

Nice job to all the teams that participated. NO penalties thrown, you definitely made our refereeing jobs easier. Also, it was great to see the variety of designs and strategies used by the teams this year, as compared to previous years.

Can't wait to come to another competition! :)

oh i think it is worth it. you can learn a LOT from this. #1 rule that stands out. NO precision machining. you can learn alot about what a hacksaw and duct tape can do.

Re: [OCCRA]: what you thought of today

The Game and Kit committee was very pleased at the result of the game.

What we liked the best was the fact that teams did not have any penalties - I forgot that I had flags in my pocket.

Only 1 time did I talk to a team about watching their action as they bumped into another robot with a head of steam. They understood my position and the next match were great.

Only 1 thing I would ask teams to improve on ........

When you set the robot down - TURN IT ON! - just a plain rookie mistake made by many teams.

Each year the quality of the robots improve as the teams get a learning base of students teaching students and passing on their robot building skills.

It is my hope that as the season matures that all robots will continue to improve - I know my team is working every day on improvements - hard to get them to go home - they really enjoy this educational activity.

Good luck to all teams, keep up the great work.

Does anyone have a picture of 469's robot hanging on the bar or depositing balls? If so, can you please send to me at gail.alpert@gmail.com

THANKS!
